I made an interactive map of LA County rental listings based on u/WilliamMcCarty's posts.

Hey everyone,

I've been learning how to code in Python and made an interactive map based on u/WilliamMcCarty's weekly spreadsheets. I love the spreadsheets but found myself having like 75 tabs open trying to visualize where each property is, so I thought why not just put this all on a map?

The result is WhereToLive.LA.

The main website

You can filter properties by rent, pet policy, square footage, security deposit, etc. Just like you can with the spreadsheet.

An example of listings that have been filtered based on the options selected on the left hand side.

Most listings have a photo of the property sourced straight from an MLS (Berkshire Hathaway Home Services) alongside their specific characteristics.

A specific listing that has been selected. You can see all of its characteristics in a popup.

And if you're lucky enough to be in the market to buy a home, I also have a page for for-sale properties too (based on the weekly spreadsheets posted on /r/LosAngelesRealEstate).

⚠ I highly recommend using the website on a tablet, laptop, or monitor screen. It'll work OK on a smartphone; it's just better on a bigger screen.

My code is up on GitHub; let me know what you think, either here, via DM, or a GitHub issue/PR!

Hey there! Looking for a roommate (ideally 24-30, can be open for the right fit, have experience with both M&F) to move into an apartment with in December! 24M looking to live in the Hollywood area, can be open to weho and loz feliz/ east Hollywood area depending on the exact location of the unit. (current lease is up Dec 31 so shooting for mid-dec) I’m currently holding a budget of $1500max/person split!

I’m a dancer and an actor and I love to party on the weekends! Essentially I am looking for someone who is a creative and also has a social life/ likes to go out. While this is a preference if you’re also just a chill person that is easy to get along with and mature and can communicate I’m open for that as well!

Generally, I am moderately quiet throughout the week and well kept in terms of cleanliness. Throughout the week I do have several 14-16 hour days so it’ll be a lot of hi and byes in passing lol.

Looking to create welcoming & warming vibe for this new apartment! Would love to host occasional pregames for friends & would love to be friends with my potential new roommate as well! If you fit this vibe please hit me privately or send me a dm on IG @madeonasundae!

Sublet (offered) $1200 asap

My job is transferring me to Houston at the end of Oct. and I need someone to take over my lease. It won’t be the exact terms because I was paying for 2people plus an animal but the space is listed at $1200 for a single occupant. The owner is willing to work with whoever is interested. Plus, it’s 2 blocks from USC on 27th st. The room has 10 large windows (no exaggeration) so there’s a ton of natural lighting for content creation. There are 3 other roommates, they keep to themselves (I barely see them) but are really chill, clean, and respectful. Parking is free, it’s gated, and the back door from the parking lot leads directly to the room. There are actually 2 rooms available at this property. The room directly next to the one I’m offering is also available. The two share a bathroom. I will post the listing here for photo reference and they take Zillow apps. Lmk if you’re interested I’ll forward your info to the landlord.

Wanting Tenant Placement Specialist

Looking for a Licensed Property Manager / Tenant Placement Specialist – Long Beach, CA 90813

I'm looking for a reputable, experienced, California-licensed real estate professional who specializes in tenant placement and filling rental vacancies in Long Beach and the South Bay area.

I'm particularly interested in someone with strong local market knowledge, broad online advertising reach, and a proven track record of placing qualified tenants in small multifamily properties.

What I'm looking for:

  • Tenant placement and leasing services without requiring full-service management
  • Strong advertising reach across Zillow, Apartments.com, and other rental platforms
  • Professional photography, listing optimization, and showing coordination
  • Thorough tenant screening and lease preparation
  • Competitive, transparent fees
  • A written tenant replacement or leasing guarantee is a plus

If you're a qualified professional or have a recommendation, please comment or send me a private message with your company name, licensing information, tenant-placement fees, marketing reach, and guarantee terms.

Thank you!

Question Walkable locations?

I work at LAX airport, so I would like to keep my travel as minimal as possible (30 min or less) I have never lived in LA - only visited once before needing to move. I have been looking for a while for apartments, but struggling due to not knowing the areas.

I’m looking for an apartment under $3k (but with fees and additional costs maybe lower?) allows dogs, in unit washer/dryer, with parking, preferred to be gated/secured building. I am really wanting something have it be a walkable area, for groceries and food etc OR walking distance to the beach.

Is this possible?? The price at 3k by Redondo Beach seems to get me a tiny shack with a mini fridge and card tables in it.

I’ve seen a lot of posts here about Culver City? Is that a desirable location?? Is it safe to walk there as a young female alone?

I’m very overwhelmed, and need to find something in less than 8 days and make the move from out of state.

I’ve been looking at:
-Torrence, preferably
-Redondo Beach
-Hermosa

Thank you in advance for helping.

[WANTED] Move In ASAP sub $1200 preferred

I got a job offer that would require me to move to the city in the next 2-4 weeks.

I'm a 34yo latino male, single, Army veteran, the job is for the city. I'm moving from within California, if that matters. I'm a homebody, drink socially, smoke cigars/tobacco pipes occasionally (1-2 times a month if that) but no cigarettes, no recreational drug use (not for me, don't care otherwise) am a bit of a night owl but more in the sense of reading/writing/gaming. The job will require early mornings, so I'll be up and out of the house before 4am weekdays.

As the post says I'd prefer under $1200 if possible. My work will have me crossing the city from between Inglewood to downtown and even San Fernando, so I'm fine with commuting in general. 6 months or a year, and possibly extend if everything works out.

A furnished room with at least a bed and a chest of drawers I can just drop into would be great, but offerings on studios etc would be good too.

Message me or comment here if you'd like me to reach out to you.

Wanting looking for a roommate! 📍Koreatown

I'm (F30s) and looking for a roommate. I'm a current student in my last couple of quarters for undergrad and also work part time.

ideally I'm looking for a roommate to share a place near Koreatown. I'm looking to officially move by Dec 2nd but am flexible as I've found a couple of places I'm looking at that may be available before then. I'd prefer a female roommate but am also open to male roomies. LGBT+ and small pets also welcome! I don't personally smoke or drink but don't mind if you do.

please DM with a quick intro and availability to meet for a vibe check beforehand as the dates are quickly approaching.

Hello! I’m looking for someone who’s also on the hunt for a place and would be down to team up and sign a lease together. I’m mainly looking on the Eastside: Highland Park, Eagle Rock, Glassell Park, Cypress Park, Atwater, Echo Park, Silverlake, etc. Budget is under $1500 per person. Move-in timeline is flexible but ideally Dec 1 to make it easy. Could do as early as Nov 15 or as late as Dec 15.

I’m a 34/M. Work in film/tv, also currently have a day job. Ideally looking for another creative. Someone clean, respectful, responsible, and easygoing. Good credit score and rental history. Also, must be comfortable living with my cat. He’s a very sweet boy, and comes with a LitterRobot.

If you’re in the same boat, feel free to message me and we can chat! If post is up, I’m still looking.

Update on lease take over studio 2k in LA

I wanted to say thanks for all the help on the last post on my lease take over for my LA studio. I had an overwhelming amount of message from a lot of people interested, I didn’t know that many people were interested in short term apartments! While I have someone signing the lease take over, I did talk to the office and they actually do short term rentals but they don’t promote it online. You need to call and speak to them directly, not the ai bot either. I think they said the shortest is 6 months but can be more too. Sad to be leaving my favorite place but excited for NY!

Wanting [Wanted] Is under $2000 for a modern clean place near Culver City/ PDR possible?

I have an office in PDR and my 3 hour daily commute is killing me. I just cannot with these dingy old places. I’ll even go with a studio if it’s livable. I basically need a crash pad during the week and possibly to work out of if internet speed is decent. It must be kid friendly so no co working/ co living/ roommates. It needs to be a private space for me.

Question [Question] Social apartment to live alone near Culver

I started living alone in a small complex and it’s tough to not be able to just walk out of your room and have roommates to hang out with so I’m considering when my lease is up moving somewhere that’s more social but I don’t know if a place like that actually exists. I’m looking within 15 minutes of Culver City and budget is $2200 for a one bedroom. I know my budget might need to be raised, but this would be my starting point. Curious if anyone has heard of good social places to live? Maybe they host events for the complex or maybe there’s a good rooftop or pool where you can actually make friends with your neighbors.
