Religion Do you really want to deconstruct religion?

Post image

I am pretty sure many of you guys watched Ghost Rider starring Nicholas Cage. The final boss fight between him and this dude in the picture that was possessed by so many spirits ending up as this grotesque looking thing with fangs for lips. What got to me was the multilayered sound going,"My name is Legion for we are many." They lifted that scene directly from the Bible. It's in the Gospel of Luke which I am currently reading.

So Jesus met with this dude whom when asked for his name said Legion for many demons had entered him. But he or they must have said this kneeling down cause prior to this, the instant he saw Jesus he cried out, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, do not torment me." You know, when you read such a passage, it leads me to think, what did these demons see? Human beings must have been seeing Jesus as fully man but I think these demons saw Jesus in His full glory as God like in The Transfiguration. Maybe they even saw a light. John usually describes Jesus as a light that darkness cannot comprehend.

Later by the way, these demons, with Jesus permission went into some pigs that ran into the lake and drowned. The herdsmen taking care of the pigs fled the scene, and rightfully so cause who wouldn't have to be honest 😂. The people in that area begged Jesus to leave cause they were paralyzed with fear. They feared this Jesus who is all love but no wrath as many people conjure up in their mind. Right?

You know, sometimes you see a young girl jumping up and down on tiktok saying she is so smart that's she's deconstructing religion, attacking Christians with generic statements like, Oh, there's no hate like Christian love and you're like young girl just keep quiet cause you have no idea what you're talking about. Your enemy is not us Christians. Your real enemy is described as a prince, a prince of the power of the air. Wewe you are just a pawn in the ultimate game of chess with your soul on the line.

Serious Replies Only My birthday is coming up early next month, and I think I'm having a bit of an existential crisis.

I feel like I haven't achieved enough this year. The funny thing is, I know I have. If I sit down and look at my life objectively, I have a lot to be grateful for. I have a good job, a good education, a decent family structure, and I've even received a job offer from another company. By most standards, I'm doing okay.

But for some reason, my mind won't let me enjoy any of it. It's always asking, What's next? What more can you do? Is this really all you're capable of?

I have this persistent feeling that I'm meant for more, that there's a bigger life waiting for me somewhere.

The problem is, I can't quite figure out what that life looks like or what I'm supposed to be doing differently to get there.

And I think that's what frustrates me the most. It's not that I'm doing nothing with my life. It's that I feel like I'm playing it safe when some part of me believes I'm capable of so much more.

So as my birthday approaches, instead of feeling excited about turning a year older, I'm questioning whether I've done enough to deserve the celebration. I know how ridiculous that sounds. You don't have to accomplish something extraordinary every year just to justify being alive. But knowing that intellectually and actually feeling it are two very different things.

I don't want to keep measuring my life against some invisible timeline I've created in my head. At the same time, I don't want to look back years from now and realise I spent too much time being comfortable when I could have taken bigger risks.

Maybe I'm being too hard on myself. Maybe this is just what happens when you become so focused on where you want to be that you forget to appreciate where you are.

I don't know.

Has anyone else ever felt this way? Like you're objectively doing well, but internally, you feel like you're falling behind? Like you know you're capable of more, but you can't figure out what that more is or how to get there?

How do you learn to celebrate your progress without feeling like you're settling for less than you're capable of?

Because right now, I'm approaching another birthday feeling like there might be nothing worth celebrating, even though a part of me knows that's probably not true.

Ask r/Kenya Let's talk about FGM

Female Genital Mutilation has a long history in Kenya.

Blossoms of the Savannah readers,if you know you know.

In the ~1950s,the Mau Mau heavily politicized FGM and forcefully abducted Christian women who were subjected to forced mutilation . This included an elderly Christian missionary who died from excessive bleeding (as well as sepsis.which seems to be the major cause of death from this procedure). There are also MANY women that believe that FGM counts as healthcare.

FGM remains illegal in Kenya. However, there are still hundreds of young women subjected to FGM every year in the country, among indigenous tribes.

What's your experience with FGM,if you have one?

Ask r/Kenya Looking for a certain barber

Back in 2022/2023, I used to go to a very good barber called Abdul in Toi Market. He had an Instagram page with a good number of followers, but I have forgotten the name of that account. Does anyone know his IG handle or have his number? I'll greatly appreciate it.

Edit: I've found him, his IG page is in the comments.

Rant Surrendered to the Cougar Life

I'm the kind of human that accepted that I'll probably not have that coveted and heavily campaigned for dream life of two kids, one male, one female, a nice, tall, working, loving husband, a house in the suburbs, school runs and the whole shebang.

Instead, my life has been unfolding in ways that amaze me (I left it to the universe).

I tried the marriage thing but damn... Young love only works in American 90's movies, not here.

The good thing is, I got out with one of the two kids in my quest to build the dream life ( the way I know myself now, I would not have any) . Fast forward few years and I've so far managed the house, the car, the school runs are over since most high schools are boardings 😢 ... But anyway, you see my jiko has only two stones in the eyes of society.

Let's move to the third stone. The man. First off, all the guys my age, are married, or getting divorced so still bitter about life. I do not find them interesting. Plus I don't think I want 'marriage' the way it is portrayed, probably only the companionship.

Any guy I find exciting is almost always 10 years younger than me. Free-spirited, spends most times talking about things I have no idea about, one can literally see the passion they have for life, the fire in their eyes that seems to say, "The world has no idea what I'm about to unleash".

And another thing, even when I'm doing random life stuff like volunteering in a different part of the country, I will meet someone who is there on a completely unrelated life thing and they will be living a max of 30 minutes away from where I live in Nairobi, and yes, younger (think of a tiny town in the middle of a random county). Of course we have to exchange contacts neighbor, and meet soon after we are both back.

These guys are spontaneous, crazy, dumb in a cute way (like I will not talk about philosophy too deeply before them saying, "let's toast to that!")

They can cuddle, kiss, be free completely with you and still do their own thing knowing you understand what they are fighting for, to be successful. They have all the parts of a good man, minus the traumatic life experiences that turned them stoic/nonchalant or all other ways to say I'm dead inside.

They give me something I am yet to understand.

I, a woman in my early 30s, leaving my identity behind, taking a cab and going to some random apartment to play house with someone who's mother will not approve. I am sure that should I ever do that proverbial dream life, it will be highly controversial because I'm almost certain that it will be with someone 10 years younger.

Anyway, anyone know where I'll get that PEP thing and what's the timeline to use it?

Casual Common cold vs the flu.

Man, these two don't compare at all!

The common cold is the friendly one. Slight fatigue, a runny nose, a blocked nose... kid stuff. You go about your day, complain a little, and after about a week, you're good.

But influenza? Hii ni vita!

That thing hits you like a train. One moment you're okay, the next you're in bed wondering how life got to this point.

Headaches, chills, fever, joint pains, extreme fatigue... even walking to the bathroom feels like a marathon. Small tasks leave you exhausted, and your head feels like having a million hangovers at once.

And the worst part? You can be completely fine one day, then wake up the next feeling like you've been fighting for your life.

Eventually, just as suddenly as it came, things start getting better. It leaves you with runny nose, coughs, you know kawaida ya homa. But the experience? My guy, you will remember it. 😭

Scientifically, the common cold is most commonly caused by rhinoviruses, while influenza is caused by influenza viruses. Both are viral respiratory infections, but influenza usually causes more severe symptoms.

Honestly, the common cold inconveniences you. Influenza hufanya mse afikirie upya maisha yake yote! 😭😂

This guy bana🤦🏾‍♂️

Edit: Its very easy for them to do this. Just convert all freehold titles to leaseholds of 99 years. FYI leasehold years are counted from the date that land was issued a title not when you bought it. That means if your grandfather bought a parcel in 1990 whose title was issued in 1970, you have until 2069 gather enough funds to repurchase that land at it latest valuation failure to which the serikali will repossess it.

Ironically i have been preaching that privatisation is a scourage. Hear me out. I was watching a documentary about how farmers in lamu were able to go back to cotton farming and that is because they still own huge tracks of land. Today if kiambu county wanted to invest in coffee again it would be impossible because the largest piece you can get is an overpriced 40 by 80. But that doesnt mean that the land should be owned by the government. The land is our heritage, its what our ancestors bled for. What they should do is sectioning, such that land in specific areas though privately owned works for the good of the community and the nation.

People, tumepitwa na hatutawashika. What these guys have managed to achieve in the last ten years is astonishing. I came here for the first time in 2016 & as much as there were signs of progress, it was still very much a village. A decade later on my second visit and my flabbers have honestly been gusted.

Ruto talks about Singapore. Guys, I don't even think he can catch Addis. The gap is ridiculous. Unless we change a lot of things in Kenya, we will continue to lag behind. Right now I think we are probably over a decade behind Addis in terms of development & it saddens me. How did we go from being the envy of the region to being left in the dust???

Ask r/Kenya Need urgent assistance in Kayole. A number of a police officer

My mum runs a small online business reselling household goods. We operate from home in Kiambu and make deliveries to different parts of Nairobi.

We've found ourselves in a rather complicated situation, and I'm hoping someone can point us in the right direction.

My mum was communicating with someone who wanted to purchase a sofa. The arrangement was payment upon delivery. The sofa was delivered, and we'd made the necessary arrangements for the transaction.

However, upon delivery in Kayole, a third person showed up claiming that the sofa belonged to him because he had already purchased and paid for it. He claimed to have made a payment, but the transaction hadn't reflected on our end.

Things have now escalated because the people at the location are refusing to release the sofa. Our delivery driver is currently stranded there, and we're not sure how to proceed.

We're beginning to suspect this could be a coordinated scam involving several people, rather than a straightforward misunderstanding.

We live in Kiambu and unfortunately don't know any police officers in Kayole or the surrounding areas. Thank you.

Casual Update.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kenya/s/fQrj0ttR0Y

Finally got back home about 30 minutes ago.

There was intimidation involved, including guys posing as police officers. They asked for the matter to be taken to the police station.

We argued. The police weren't of much help, either. They kept saying, "Mskizane nyinyi wawili." I almost went crazy.

For context, we'd been contacted by someone interested in buying the chair. We agreed on the price and delivery arrangements. However, when we got to the delivery point, we met someone else who claimed to have already paid for the chair through the person we'd been dealing with. Apparently, he felt he'd been conned because the chair wasn't worth the amount he'd paid.

Ata polisi were asking them if they were crazy. A kiti ya 30gs plus, and you're paying 14k inclusive of delivery, all the way from Ukambani?

We took a loss.

They had rallied people, insisting that the kiti iwekwe store and nobody was leaving with it.

They had apparently bought the chair for half the price we were selling it for, yet they were the ones claiming to have been conned.

They had the M-Pesa message.

The officers then asked us to pay the "conned guys" half of the amount they had paid. It was a major loss, especially considering they hadn't even paid for delivery.

No more payments upon delivery.

Today was a field day.

I don't buy their story that they were conned. I don't think we'll be doing business in Eastlands anytime soon.

This was bad. From pesa ya chai to ya compensation. I couldn't pull the I know my rights card because trying to reason with unreasonable people helps no one.

We got the chair back. We'll have to take the loss as a lesson.

Ask r/Kenya Please advise on the appropriate skin care

Question to the ladies on here (or the gents that may know). I have serious hyperpigmentation on my face and thighs. I literally seem to have two different distinct skin shades. I also have developed skin tags on my face. Please share with me products that could fix this. If possible, I want very few but effective products so that the routine can remain simple and not be so tasking; so that I can consistently follow it through. Thanks.

Anime Built an anime downloader because I couldn't afford Wi-Fi

A few years ago, I couldn’t afford home Wi-Fi, so I used my college Wi-Fi to download anime for later. Downloading episodes one by one was annoying, so I made Senpwai to do it in batches.

A reasonable person would have stopped there. Anyway, version 3.0 is now out on Android, Windows, Linux and macOS.

You can:

  • Download whole seasons or choose an episode range.
  • Pick your quality and sub/dub preference.
  • Use direct downloads or torrents.
  • Track ongoing anime and automatically download new episodes.
  • Skip filler and episodes already in your folder.
  • Pause, resume and reorder downloads, with the queue saved across restarts.
  • Discover anime through AniList and browse your library.

It’s free and open source. Bundles nazo itabidi ujisakie.

Casual How do you keep going when you keep getting rejected after making it so far in interviews?

There is something consistent job interview rejections do to you. You start questioning your worth and whether you are good enough.

I've interviewed with the biggest consulting firms, both tier one and two, NGOs, smaller consulting firms. You get to advanced levels of the interviews only to get rejected 💔

I mean it's so heartbreaking. Considering the hundreds of applications I have been making. 10% of which actually land me interviews.

Not forgetting the aptitude tests. Just the thought of coming across such tests already makes me lose hope most times. But I still do proceed with them though 🥲. Only to get rejected by them. Job market is just so tough

Anyway, enough of my rants.

I am an economics graduate with a keen interest in roles involving analytics, business analysis, monitoring & evaluation, business consulting, finance. My technical toolkit: Advanced Excel, SQL, PowerBI, Python (Learning). Currently pursuing CPA Studies. I also have previous experience in consulting case competitions where I helped solve diverse business problems.
