Discussion 💡 Aggressive/Bold Hawks around KC

Anybody else noticing how aggressive and bold hawks have been getting around here? There are several huge hawks that hang around my part of town that are getting very bold and not deterred by humans. We have to be very careful with our smaller pets and even our kids. They will come within 10 or 15 feet of me and not be bothered.

Sports 🏈⚾️⚽️ To the runner who stopped to help me during today’s KC Marathon

Around mile 16 or 17 of the marathon today, my legs completely seized up and I collapsed. A few runners behind me immediately started yelling for an officer, and one guy stopped, knelt down, and helped stretch out my calf. He talked to me for a bit and made sure I was alright before continuing his race.

I ended up needing EMS assistance and unfortunately couldn’t finish. Bummed about it, but really grateful for everyone who stopped to help.

I know it’s a long shot he’ll see this, but if you’re out there, thank you man. You had your own race to run and still took the time to help some random guy on the ground. Really meant a lot.

And to everyone else who called for help or checked on me, thank you too. Just a really special reminder of how good people can be.

KC Rants 😡 👎 Ren Fest Parking Is Atrocious

Currently have been sitting for an hour to get out of the Ren Fest parking lot. Lots of traffic control workers who are standing around doing nothing. Not sure what the if it’s KCKPD, the Sheriff’s Office, or the Ren Fest themselves who organize this but this is ridiculous.

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Looking for a body of water to read next to

Hello!
Life has been kicking my ass lately and I don’t have the money for a true vacation to kind of “escape” from it all.
That said, I’d like to find a body of water like a lake, pond, river, stream, creek, hell, even a babbling brook, to read near to try and relax.
I would prefer somewhere that has seating available like a picnic table or bench and maybe somewhere that’s not super noisy or overrun with families. Truly just a quiet, relaxing nook in the world to escape to.

If anyone knows of anywhere like that around the KC Metro, please let me know! I’m even down to walk a trail to get to said spot!
Especially with the weather being chilly and nicer the next couple of days, I’d like to enjoy some of the outdoors before it gets bitterly cold.

TIA!

I was driving down Roe about to get onto the 435 and I swear I saw an asteroid or something falling from the sky? It looked like it was on fire and was coming straight down, it went away before I could get my phone out to film. Tell me I’m not crazy!!!

Traffic/Road Conditions 🚦❄️ Road Rage on the interstates

PSA for Kansas City drivers.
Please check in with your parents, grandparents, friends, and honestly anyone you know who drives. I swear so much of the road rage we experience could be avoided if everyone were simply on the same page about the rules of the road.

For decades, the basic understanding has been that the left lane is for passing. It’s not the “I’m going the speed limit, so everyone behind me can deal with it” lane.

If you’re uncomfortable driving at the pace of faster traffic, that’s perfectly fine! That’s why we have a right lane. You can drive at a speed that’s safe and appropriate for the conditions without unnecessarily obstructing everyone else. And when the left lane is clear, other drivers can pass safely.

Nobody is asking you to speed, drive recklessly, or do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Just be aware of the traffic around you and understand that your personal comfort level doesn’t dictate how everyone else should drive.

This works beautifully when everyone understands the system. Less frustration, less dangerous passing, and hopefully a whole lot less road rage.
But seriously, are they not teaching these rules anymore? Or have we genuinely reached a point where people are so wrapped up in their own little worlds that considering anyone around them is just too much to ask?

Ask KC ❔ Local place for Frying pan warped bottom repair

I have a set of frying pans that I like using. Over the years the bottoms have warped and are not flat. It’s caused from not letting the pans cool before washing them in the sink. I’m looking for any local places that offer a service to re-flatten the bottoms.

I’ve attempted it myself about a year ago and it sort of helped but I don’t have the right tools. My fire pit and makeshift blacksmithing hammer noises echoed through the neighborhood. I just don’t want to buy new ones and throw these out because that’s just wasteful.

Construction/Development 🚧🏗️ Will Our Lady of Sorrows be demolished to accommodate the new Royals stadium?

Post image
138 Upvotes

In the mockups that were released of the new stadium, the footpath basically touches Our Lady of Sorrows. Does anyone know what the plan is here? TBH I don’t see how it’s workable to keep the church with this stadium design, so there must be some plan behind closed doors while we get bizarre PR that keeps it in the stadium mockups.

No matter what your religion is I always hate to see old buildings get demolished.

Pets 🐾 Free expensive prescription dog food:

I bought the wrong kind of royal canin dog food. An expensive mistake. She needs "gastrointestinal low fat", I bought "gastrointestinal". They are not, apparently, interchangeable.

If you have a prescription for this food, live in the KC metro, and have a bag/tub that can hold approx. 20ish lbs of dry dog food, DM me and we'll arrange an exchange.

Mechanics/Repairs/Contractors 🛠️🪠 In need of a plumber

I am in need of a plumber kind of like right now. My landlord is out of town and I'm having a hard time getting a hold of him and most companies will only authorize service directly with the homeowner. My drains are backing up and there is toilet paper in one of them, the water has drained back down, I think the main line just needs a quick cleaning. It is my birthday and my parents are on their way over right now bringing lunch and I also have people coming over for a party in a few hours. Does anyone know any plumbers that work on the side?

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Any options for karaoke on Mondays?

I had plans with a group of friends to go to do karaoke Monday night, but found that the place we had in mind is closed.

We'd like to go while a friend of ours is still in town, and that friend leaves Tuesday. It looks like the couple of dedicated karaoke places in town aren't open on Mondays, and I can't find any bars with recurring karaoke nights on Mondays (it's not like Monday is exactly the peak time for customers who want to go clubbing).

Does anyone know any options? Or are we out of luck?

Local Politics 🗳️ After FBI exit, ex-Missouri AG Andrew Bailey forms anti-abortion group with Hawley ties

Fresh off his exit as co-deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, former Attorney General Andrew Bailey is wading back into Missouri politics.

Bailey, who left the FBI last month, filed paperwork this week to launch a political action committee supporting a proposed abortion ban on the Nov. 3 ballot. The measure, called Amendment 3, would strike down a 2024 vote that legalized abortion and reinstate a near-total ban.

The new group is also affiliated with U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley. Here's a free gift link to The Kansas City Star's coverage: https://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article317650935.html?giftCode=fdb907df5bf8bf263de7428c7ab451bd6cba8b068b3fe6531d8bbb0520355804

Childcare/Parenting 👶 Daycare or Montessori School

Hello!

I live in the 64157 area and I am looking for a good daycare or montessori school for my 1 year old.

I would like somewhere that is diverse with students and teachers, kind teachers, actually teaches the little ones something, and overall is a great safe place for the children.

Please drop your recommendations. Right now I am looking at Brighton Learning Center, any thoughts on them?

Thanks!

KC Rants 😡 👎 The KCMO US Postal Service is a city wide embarrassment

Warning: rant.

I get my neighbors mail, almost daily. My work has had to stop using USPS mail altogether because we can't trust simple items to get delivered within the city. When clients want to mail something i have to request they not use the postal service because we will not receive it in a timely manner... and its embarrassing to explain. I've had to drive to the post office twice in the last month to get amazon deliveries because they always get marked as "undeliverable". UPS and Fedex don't seem to ever have an issue getting an item to my doorstep.

Why does this problem seems unique to KCMO and not felt nearly as bad in the surrounding suburb I've lived in?

Does anyone have any insight into why the KC post office is so particularly bad?

Thank you for coming to my rant.
