Prompts and Lists 1000 Prompts

Over the years, as I have worked on my journals, I have collected prompts to inspire me when I'm feeling indecisive about what to write/draw. I finally took all the prompts and put them into a single list instead of a multitude of separate documents. Here is this list. Please note that these prompts were gathered from everywhere...the internet, from books, and from friends, so the topics are varied. I tried to keep prompts that were not repetitive, but with 1000 of them, I may have slipped once or twice.

Enjoy!

The Great Diary Project and a discussion why you shouldn't destroy diaries/journals

I know I don't post very often, but I thought you might all like to see an amazing project to preserve diaries and journals in the U.K. and across the world. I have a pair of 1950's leather journals my family got at an estate auction that I am considering donating when the project resumes receiving diaries.

A youtube video of one of the founders explaining the origins of his project and WHY it's so important to preserve the words of everyday citizens....because most media is curated information (you know the old saying "history is written by the victors"), but private diaries are written with a kind of truth that cannot be found in any other form. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0hi2Q3TAK8

Do you destroy your written words when you're "done with them"?

I’m so obsessed with these stickers I had to share, what do ye think of the design? The actual journal is the Midori B6, i printed most of the stickers myself.

I decided I need somewhere to document what media I consume, and write reviews etc. The only thing I’m missing is a way to incorporate a picture inside the entries but maybe I should actually have some structure for them 🙈 currently the set up is; teal ink for the backdated entries, a squiggle for the activity and normal underline for the content title. Any thoughts//suggestions?

how to decorate an ugly journal

Had to get a new journal in a pinch (i'm sure you understand) and it's ugly af. It has lined pages (which i don't like) and they're dyed a warm yellow color. Cover is just black and it says "notebook" 😑 anyways, I know I bought it but now my regret is sinking in and i have to make do. How can I make this more pleasing for me to look at? I thought about stickers on the cover, but i don't want to waste the ones I have, nor do I want them to scratch or come off. Help :(

Hi, everyone. Today I decided to do an Outlander spread, since I just finished the last season, and remembered the first journal spread I did in a more creative way was outlander themed as well, almost two years ago, so I wanted to compare both spreads.

I think i've gotten much more comfortable using different textures, and even did my own illustrations.

Writing to let off steam. Now I have more steam.

I started journaling because I had too much going on in my head. Somewhere along the way, I put together a guided journal and published it.

I’m glad I did. I’m just awkward about telling people it exists. I overthink a few sentences, get annoyed, then wonder why I’ve turned a simple post into a whole afternoon.

Today I wanted to write something to clear my head. Instead, I spent ages deciding what to say and where to put it. Very relaxing. Would recommend.
When you’re tired and irritated, do you just dump everything on the page, or do you need a question to get you started?

My current prompt is: “What the hell is bothering me?” Apparently, “everything” needs a little more detail.

if I have 65 pages in my journal and I write once a week using about two pages each time around how long will it take me to fill up the journal?

Free week-long test of reflective journaling prompts (PDF plus short anonymous form). Looking for 10 adults who journal or are curious about it :)

I’m developing a set of journaling sessions and I’d like honest feedback before I take it any further. I wanted something for the kind of person who finds blank pages and “become your best self” workbooks a bit much. These sessions are quiet, a little dry, and mostly just ask good questions. Some take two minutes, some fifteen. There’s a light one for evenings you’ve had a day, a longer one for slow Sunday mornings, and one optional session that looks at the people who mildly irritate us and what that might say, if anything.

I developed the first drafts with the help of AI and I’ve been editing them myself, so I’m especially curious whether they feel written by a person, or like someone trying to cheer you up.

What I’m asking: use the PDF over about a week, whenever you feel like it, and skip whatever doesn’t appeal. Write on paper if you like. I never see what you write. Then fill in a short anonymous form (no name or email, about ten minutes). The form asks which lines made you smile or wince, whether anything felt repetitive or like homework, and whether you’d want it in print.

The PDF is linked at the top of the form: https://forms.gle/VMB1MEUnxp9FLUHm7. It’s free, nothing is being sold, and there’s no signup.

Content note: one optional session is slightly more introspective. It’s marked, and you can skip it.

What an irony of life... People who are beautiful and attractive have ugly hearts.
