I'm posting this because I spent two days thinking my Instagram account was completely cooked, and hopefully this helps someone dealing with the same issue.
*The problem:*
Out of nowhere, Instagram flagged my account with a warning saying something along the lines of **"Your email might be compromised"** and forced me to change my email address.
The problem was that every time I tried changing my email, I would get another error saying **"This content isn't available right now."**
I was basically stuck in an endless loop. I couldn't change my email, couldn't get past the warning, and couldn't access my account.
I searched Reddit and saw people recommending waiting 24-48 hours, so I waited two full days. Nothing changed.
I also tried fixing it through my PC/browser, but it kept sending me right back into the same loop.
*Here's what FINALLY worked for me:*
*Delete the Instagram app completely* from your phone.
*Reinstall Instagram* from the App Store or Google Play.
When you open Instagram, you'll probably see your account/profile already prepopulated on the login screen.
*IMPORTANT: Remove your saved account/profile from the login screen.* Don't use the automatic login! Every time I tried using my saved login, it threw me right back into the same error loop.
Once you've removed the saved account, open your phone's browser (Safari/Chrome) and go to *https://www.instagram.com/hacked/\*
Follow the instructions on that page. In my case, it automatically redirected me to the Instagram app.
Enter your Instagram username or email when prompted.
Instagram gave me two options to verify my identity:
- *Al video selfie verification:* You record
a short video of your face so Instagram can verify you're the account owner.
*Manual review:* From what the app showed me, this could take around 24-48 hours.
- I chose the *Al video selfie verification* because I wanted to get my account back ASAP.
*One thing to know about the video verification:*
It took me SEVERAL attempts to get the AI to recognize my face. It kept failing or not registering properly. Don't immediately give up if this happens.
After multiple tries, it finally accepted my video. The verification took about a minute, and *BOOM, MY ACCOUNT WAS UNLOCKED!*
*A few important things:*
I had to do everything through the *phone app*. Trying on my PC just kept me stuck in the loop.
Removing the saved/automatic login was a HUGE part of getting this to work. Otherwise, Instagram kept sending me back to the same warning screen.
My account wasn't actually hacked, at least as far as I could tell. Instagram just randomly flagged it as potentially compromised.
Waiting two days did absolutely nothing for me.
The video selfie verification might fail several times before it works, so be patient.
*TL;DR:* If Instagram is forcing you to change your email because it thinks it's compromised, but keeps giving you "Content isn't available right now," try deleting and reinstalling the app, REMOVE your saved login/profile, then go to *instagram.com/ hacked* through your phone's browser. Follow the recovery process in the app and try the video selfie verification. That's what finally got me back into my account.
I genuinely thought I lost my account for good, so I hope this saves someone else the headache.
