Cutting the friction out of a training habit: what I changed in how I log workouts
I lift, and the habit I kept fighting wasn't going to the gym. It was everything around it. Every tracking app I tried was cluttered or kept the useful parts behind a subscription, so writing down a set felt like a small chore, and small chores are what quietly kill a habit.
So I built my own workout log and tried to make the routine part need no decisions. You set your routines up once. At the gym you tap a set when it's done and the rest timer starts by itself. A Coach fills in today's weight and reps from last time, so you never stand there working out what to lift. Home screen widgets show how many weeks in a row you've trained and the routine that's up next, which keeps it in front of you without notifications.
It's called Stanza Lift, iPhone only for now. It's in public beta and free during the beta, Pro included:

I'm the developer, so I'm biased. What I'm curious about is how people here keep a training habit going. Do you track it, and does tracking help, or does it turn into one more thing to keep up?

How to stop cracking knuckles
I crack my knuckles the most but I crack my neck, elbows, knees etc. There are some cracks that happen naturally. But I feel like I should stop cracking as much as I can. I get these aching pains intermittently almost like a warning. I don’t really know the long-term effects of cracking knuckles but my body is so fucked up, if there was I'm sure I'd get it.
Any tips on how to stop?

What makes a daily walk easier to actually keep
A daily walk is simple to promise and easy to push to "later." These help make it a default:
- Shoes by the door. Reduce the steps between deciding and going.
- Pick a route you like. Same route, same time; it becomes automatic.
- Count showing up, not distance. The promise is "I went," not a number.
- Pair it. Walk and call a friend, or save a podcast only for walks.
- Have a weather plan. Know your rainy-day version before you need it.
- Mark each day. A simple streak on paper works; if it breaks, start a new one tomorrow.
What keeps your daily walk on the calendar?
