Discussion my first clanker coworker

• Upvotes

i stock shelves overnight and last month they "hired" this robot that does the cart runs and fetches pallets. i understand that im young but it took them nine months to let me use the box cutter, there was a whole certification and test, and i signed stuff. the robot who is probably less than a year old? tuesday first meeting, and by wednesday it's working. my manager doesn't know what to do when it jams and honestly neither does the vendor guy who's here basically every day now

tbh it's not even the robot i'm mad at, it kind of works and i'm not trying to haul pallets at 4am forever. i just cant believe that nobody checked anything. stuff like this needs to go through tests before it's everywhere, and someone should be responsible when it breaks. innovation is fine, its just that why do i, someone who is barely an adult, have to be the guinea pig. i think the responsible thing is for the rules to show up with the machine and not after somebody gets hurt

anyone else have a robot coworker yet, and are you guys comfortable with this tech rolling out like this?

Discussion (Millennial) Is my Halloween costume offensive?

Sup guys.

I am a cis tan muscular bald man with chest, leg, and facial hair.

I want to be Zendaya for Halloween while my girlfriend is going to wear a spiderman body suit.

To me, this is hilarious. But I don't want to offend anybody, specifically anybody who is transgender.

Yes/no?

Edit: I am fervently anti-trump and I believe in equal rights and progression.

Discussion Am I delusional or are men really more "fluid" nowadays (especially in gen z)?

Am I delusional or are men now more openly fluid and touchy?

Hey guys, M22 here and I noticed something but I really want to check if I am overexagarting or if it's more a niche thing or really a visible trend. So I think that especially in this decade people started to realise that sexuality does not need to be tied to an strict "identity" and that it is much more fluid and yes even for men.

So a gen z guy who is technically bi/pan but I don't really care about labels, I like women, men, trans people,... and for me it comes down to the person to who I want to be with.

What I have noticed is, that beside biphobia and homophobia that still exist, it is much more chill and accepted. So far I never got any biphobia in my real life or people seeing me as less masculine just because I like dudes too. And I don't live in a particullary "woke" area but in a small town in southern Germany.

Now I also noticed people my age being much more aware of it and seeing it as legitimate but also men became much more touchy with eachother in a way that girls are and were allowed before. In my school guys from a soccer group even kissed shirtless on a party and that photo made it into the graduation book. Nobody said "oh gay.." but actually a girl I liked at the time showed me this and said "Oh well that's a common thing around those super masc / frat dudes". Also my best female friend is into more softer guys, also a Harry Styles fan and her boyfriend cuddles with his bros and she loves it. And she is a conventional south european "girl next door" so again not really from a "woke" niche or so.

On TikTok (eventho I am aware of algorhytms) I also see homoerotic content between men, many guys my age admitting they would crack a twink or a femboy and guys especially from the fitness bubble commeting not stuff like "fire bro" and "good physique" but literally "I have a crush on you bro" and hearts. Guys I met now at the uni are also like it, they send me a heart when I send them homework or so and it's all normal. And which is interesting how many dudes that do this are conventionally very masculine. Also interesting how straight dudes now exibit some feminine presentation while many gay/bi dudes present themselves very macho like. So there aren't any rules now to be honest and I have a feeling many people see it.

Even straight men now often saying here how it would be easier to be gay/bi when it comes down to dating and how "men are easier to get along with eacjother" which would be unthinkable like 10-15 years ago! Even queer men being "conservative" like that was unthinkable before.

I am not saying that it is everywhere like this,
obviosly this world is still a rough place and prejustices are DEFINITELY there BUT it is much MUCH better I think than one may assume on Reddit? Now I really want to know is it really a true thing happening or is it really a niche and I am just delusional? Since social media (traditional media) as well made me TERRIFIED to be a bi man in last couple of months

PS: In media as well series like Heated Rivalry, Adults and this year's World Cup in soccer... damn there were some bromances and dudes weren't hiding it.

Discussion Do you have a formal household budget, or just kinda wing it with finances?

When managing your household budget, do you have a specific plan or budget that you review and update, or do you just kinda wing it with finances?

When I was younger and single, I used to track it pretty meticulously to make sure all my income and expenses were planned for. Also didn’t help that I was living paycheck-to-paycheck, and not making a lot of money, so there was a bit more “urgency” there. I also had a lot less things to worry about - just rent, car, insurance, groceries. My income was a lot more variable then also, which made tracking it more important.

Now, I’ve gotten a bit more lax about budgeting. Our incomes are pretty stable now, consistent, reliable paychecks every 2 weeks. Same with expenses, pretty fixed and consistent, since most things are on autopay.

All I really do now is check at the end of the month and make sure that there is more money in the checking account after deductions, investments, savings, and mortgage, and expenses are taken care of. And I have alerts set up if anything gets close to getting overdrawn or a big unexpected expense comes through.

I feel like being able to put everything on autopilot kind of removes the need for strict budgeting, but I know some people still like to track it meticulously.

Nostalgia Xennial to Gen Z

My son was born in 2008 and special needs. Went to a special needs preschool until time for kindergarten (which we waived a delay for a year). I'm dad and I'm sweating bullets thinking it would be like when I started in1982. No bullying, everyone looking out for him, young people coming up to him in public speaking to him. Your generation is OK in my book. They want to say the world is imploding, nah, it's the same, you just get to hear about it more these days. Peace little zoomers.

Discussion Economy so bad we can't have failed relationships because we don't even get the chance to date

My parents, grandparents and basically the last gen all had crazy stories in highschool or college how they got multiple gfs, heard stories of even some relative who didn't even finish uni had to dropout, but he had married a wive and a kid and he was also cheating on her and turned into alcoholism in the end and lost the relationship and the child.

Meaaanwhile, we can't even get basic jobs at supermarket and some of them requiring a degree. Relationships? Forget it, no situationships, no dating experience, nothing. Just worrying about how we gonna afford rent the next month. We can't even take care of ourselves, forget about dating at all especially when the expectations are sky rocket

Discussion Is "cool" the new "hip" now? What's the alternative?

I'm a Millennial/Gen-Z cusper and I'm starting to worry that I sound like my Gen X mother when she'd say, "that's hip," when I call something "cool." What is the consensus about this among Gen-Zers? Is there a better word to use? I've heard "that's sick" used, as well as "that slaps," but neither of them feel natural to me. But also, maybe I'm just getting old now...

Discussion Do you talk about your personal life/drama at work?

I’m (F) pretty reserved about my personal life, and share what’s only acceptable at work. Coworkers have found me so boring, claiming that I don’t express myself enough. I notice I’m left out of workplace cliques and drama just because I don’t share drama with them.

Do you share your personal life with your coworkers?

Discussion Gen Z should be on the same side as Millennials

Let’s avoid the generational judgment and focus on bridging gaps, building connections, helping each other and being positive.

I usually wake up on Saturdays with strong opinions on something. Today, it’s how I feel about Gen Z. I edited my initial paragraph because it sounded too accusatory against Gen Z and I want to avoid any accusations. It goes against the thesis of my message here: it is both generations’ responsibilities to acknowledge each others pains and struggles. That is the first step toward building trust with the other side.

It’s not anyone’s fault.

There could be nothing wrong at all. And my observations are mostly subtle. The animosity is subtle. I think people, in general, are colder with each other these days, and it has very little to do with generational judgement. It's more to do with the economy and where we're headed as a society. I spend a lot of time thinking about this stuff. So sorry. There's nothing wrong with you. The point of this post is to express my earnest efforts to build connection. I want to bridge the gap, and not divide it.

I graduated in '09. I know what it's like to face a daunting job market, a recession, etc. So we already have that in common.

Other reasons why I think Gen Z should be more warm to Millennials:
- We grew up without social media. Trust me when I tell you - it was better for everyone.

- Many millennials are in leadership positions at work that can help you grow and get you opportunities. This one in particular I've found to be extremely shocking in my personal life. I have a lot of things going for me - I work in tech, I run a startup, I have a business background - and I've been just shocked at how little that matters to Gen Z. Unless I post a job listing with a dollar amount, they just don't care. And let me tell you - when I got out of college and there was a global recession happening, I moved in with my parents and I did some digging into how I could better position myself for any opportunity that might lead to something down the road. I worked for startups with very little pay, I took odd jobs, I read and taught myself things and wrote blog posts. Eventually I landed my first real job at Dell. It took time, but I realized how worth it it was to focus on myself, and not just look for someone to offer me the best $ amount. I get this is a sensitive topic, because most people will say "We can't even survive with $". But that's where I would say, stop jumping to the $ amount because that's what everyone is chasing. Instead, focus on your unique perspective and ideas. That is what will make you stand out and help you find the $.

- Millennials are peaking right now. We're approaching our 40s. We have the experience. We know the boomers are ruining everything and we're patiently waiting for them to retire. We're tech savvy and know how to interface between social media and boomers. We're very uniquely positioned in that regard. It gives us a leg up. Now I do understand that Gen Z is probably more tech savvy when it comes to social media marketing - content creation, etc. And that is a super interesting topic that we should be working together on. Because even if you're not killing it on your TikTok, or have a big following, you UNDERSTAND the nature of how things go viral and what young people like. That gives YOU a competitive advantage over millennials. This is where I want to build a bridge - Gen Z has marketing power, but doesn't know how to monetize it. Millennials have monetization power (through experience, connections, and careers), but doesn't know how to market it. So I guess the question is - how do we bridge that gap?

But before we get there, we need to fix our collective attitudes toward one another. We need to be excited about the opportunities that we have to offer. You DO have things to offer. What's missing is leadership and new business ideas that convince the wealthy bag holders that we are collectively worth the investment.

On a final note, I want to say that I am truly curious about who you guys are, what you care about, what projects you work on, what strong opinions you have. Personally, I don't find existing social media to cater to that type of curiosity and engagement. And perhaps that isn't interesting to most people. Plenty of people avoid other people intentionally, regardless of generation. That's fine. We're all different. But also, I think in the effort of community, we should be sharing each others' work and progress, not on LinkedIn, but everywhere. It should be widely accepted.

Serious The Internet!!!!

The internet is radiation. It’s making me crazy, just thinking about it all the time.

Mad Max Kelly is going to lay waste to the internet. Swim to the bottom of the ocean and cut the cable.

That way memetic contagion (internet cancer) doesn’t infect the minds of tardz who are tardz, like me.

It’s a memetic disease deeply embedded in the brain. The mind code. It can be erased! I will erase it!

Discussion Any women business owners??

Are there any other Gen Z women here who are pursuing entrepreneurship? I keep trying to find other women around my age who are/are becoming business owners, but every time I ask something here on Reddit, the older women send me tons of hate so I end up deleting. So I'm curious, are there any women here who are entrepreneurs and if so, what has your experience been like? Personally, I am trying to break into confidence coaching but it is super hard for many reasons and one of the biggest being that a lot of the people I encounter are really disrespectful + unhelpful Gen Xer and Baby Boomer women.
