Spoilers - News FFVII Remake's “Hollow” revisited by Survive Said The Prophet feat. Jean-Ken Johnny (2026) | Official collaboration & first Australian tour in 2027 Spoiler
For anyone unfamiliar with the connection to FFVII Remake:
Survive Said The Prophet has a direct, officially documented connection to Final Fantasy VII Remake through its vocalist Yosh, who performed the game's original theme song, “Hollow” (2020).
In 2026, the band revisited the song with a new full-band arrangement, featuring Jean-Ken Johnny from MAN WITH A MISSION.

Background and chronology
2020 — The original theme song
Square Enix commissioned “Hollow” for Final Fantasy VII Remake, with music composed by Nobuo Uematsu, lyrics by Kazushige Nojima and vocals performed by Yosh.
Square Enix confirmed these credits in its official announcement and theme-song materials.
10 June 2026 — The collaboration video
Survive Said The Prophet published the video titled SSTP × FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Collaboration Video on its official YouTube channel.
The video combines the band's interpretation of “Hollow” with footage from FFVII Remake.
8 July 2026 — The new recording
The band released “Hollow feat. Jean-Ken Johnny”, a full-band cover featuring the MAN WITH A MISSION musician.
Rather than merely rereleasing Yosh's original vocal performance, this recording places the composition in a heavier rock arrangement, with additional vocal contributions and some changes to the lyrics.
Why I find this interesting
The original “Hollow” was written specifically for FFVII Remake, with the creators discussing Cloud's emotional perspective, loss and uncertainty during the song's development.
The 2026 version retains much of that foundation but introduces a different musical intensity. The additional lyrical passages also invite a comparison with the original recording.
To me, the original feels more introspective, whereas the new version places greater emphasis on struggle and determination.
That is my interpretation of the music, not a claim that the updated lyrics confirm any unrevealed story developments.
Personally, I see this collaboration as a meaningful tribute to Final Fantasy VII Remake and the creative work behind it.
The fact that Yosh's original performance has now been revisited by Survive Said The Prophet as a full band, with Jean-Ken Johnny contributing, makes this especially interesting to me.
With the band's first Australian headline tour now officially announced for February 2027, I thought this was a particularly good opportunity to share the history of “Hollow” with other FFVII Remake fans.
Although the Australian concert setlists have not been confirmed, I hope the band includes “Hollow” in its performances.

Discussion
For anyone who has listened to both versions:
Do you think the heavier band arrangement and Jean-Ken Johnny's contribution change how “Hollow” expresses the emotional themes of FFVII Remake?
I'm particularly interested in the musical interpretation and how it compares with the original theme.
Please spoiler-tag any discussion of major game plot events so that people at different stages of the series can participate.
Why this is directly relevant to r/FFVIIRemake
For clarity, the connection between Survive Said The Prophet and Final Fantasy VII Remake is not speculative, coincidental or based solely on fan interpretation.
It is an officially documented musical collaboration with the game itself.
The evidence
1. The original song was commissioned for FFVII Remake.

2. Square Enix's creators explained the song's narrative significance.
The original developers discussed how the composition and lyrics reflect Cloud's emotional perspective, uncertainty, loneliness and experiences of loss.
This establishes a direct artistic and narrative relationship with the game.

3. The 2026 collaboration explicitly identifies FFVII Remake.
On 10 June 2026, Survive Said The Prophet published a video titled SSTP × FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE Collaboration Video.
The video includes footage from the game alongside the band's new interpretation of its theme song.

4. The new recording provides a legitimate subject for discussion.
On 8 July 2026, Survive Said The Prophet released “Hollow feat. Jean-Ken Johnny”.
The new arrangement and lyrical changes create an opportunity to compare the musical and emotional interpretations of the original theme.
This is particularly relevant to discussions about the game's soundtrack, characterisation, narrative symbolism and music production.
A distinction worth making: official material versus narrative canon
A song does not need to reveal a canonical plot event to be relevant to the game.
The original “Hollow” is officially associated with FFVII Remake. The 2026 recording is a documented reinterpretation of that theme, accompanied by an official collaboration video.
Whether the new lyrics contain additional canonical story information is a separate question, and I am not presenting speculation as confirmed lore.
Relevance to the community rules
Rule 1 permits news, content and discussion surrounding Final Fantasy VII Remake and its associated project.
This submission discusses the game's officially commissioned theme song, its performers, its musical development and its subsequent reinterpretation.
The connection is therefore supported by both the original publisher's credits and the artists' documented releases.
I have provided these references so that readers can independently verify the information rather than relying on assumptions about the artists or the video.
My intention is to share a documented piece of FFVII Remake's musical history and invite a constructive discussion about its creative interpretation.
