FULL AI DISCLOSURE: I´m a lawyer from brazil, my bg in programming is a little bit of basic and assembler from the 80´s and 90´s while trying to make things run on a msx, so, not much...in the beggining of the project i coded a few hundred lines in android studio by myself while i was learning how to do it, but after i discovered the wonders of Codex and Claude Code, the coding and documentation itself was primarily done by AI, and i do not regret it by one bit! It would take a long time to post my inspirational story, but thats the TLDR.
GOOD NEWS(Jeremy Clarkson´s voice)!!! I´ve promised that i would be away for awhile, but i couldnt! After i publish the last update and got drunk and celebrate my marriage wedding, i wondered how easy would actually be to port ZeroFG to other platforms, cuz i said it would be easy but i didnt try to do ir myself... welll.... turns out that is pretty easy...
First was ARMSX2... took me a day, and it was ok, in the first try was leagues better than the lsfg implementation, just everything was better... but i didnt test it that much...there were some adjustments that were need to be made, but it went smoothly....then i though.. how about PPSSPP?? it was even easier... few hours was done with the lessons i learned from the ARMSX2 implementation.
Then, actually, i discovered some pacing and latency inconsistencies... and realize that every host needs at least a little bit of adjustments and improvements were made because of this, so... it was born version 1.0.4... there was a 1.0.3, but it was never published in the xendroid implementation, so, i skipped the number! just a few tweaks, but i think it was worth it to update.
On that note, ARMSX2 implementation was perfected and i´ve made a PR on the project:) I just didnt do it for the Xendroid coz its closed, but my project was never the xendroid itself, the ZeroFG is. Hope they approve it soon and all you guys can test it and compare to LSFG (theres no contest, really!)
The PPSSPP implementation is a little bit different... i had to change some things on the native pipeline, so for now ´m not doing a PR before a review to change as little as possible!
So, still hav to decide what course to pursue now, some things are natural, better image quality, lower latency, lower cost... but maybe some other things:
1- Multi Frame Generation: Maybe it seems like the biggest step, but actually is the easiest... all the work is done, the estimator and the basis for the synthetic frame, it has the same base(a pair of reals) and is just some adjustments on the algorithim to change the point to generate the frames... buttttt... i dont really see the value in it... like 4x fg.... 75% of the image are synthethic frames... theres no miracle... one other thing is like 3x 40-120 for 120hz refresh rate.... so.... maybe... but dunno.
2- Integrated temporal AA +upscaler or Temporal super resolution: Some aspects of frame generation already provide some data to upscale the image with a higher quality, but not so much... I think it can be done on some level (somethings a inherent to in game engines implementations, but we can extrapolate and try to infer it, like subpixel jitter), so... that doesnt mean it will look good or hav good performance... but one candidate is arm ASR, wich is based on fsr2, dunno if i can develop my own on this case.... well.. thats it... tell me what you guys think!
3-Another emulator or game port: Even thought about implementing on the God of War 3 remastered port... what do you guys think? i´ll be miles better than the lsfg.
Thats it! please let me know your suggestions!
Thanks for all the love!!! And now you can be sure that porting ZeroFG to your favorite emulator by yourself also! It is as easy as it will ever be, with even more documentation and integration notes!!!
StevenMXZ turnip drivers are still highly recommended!!!!! Alternatively, Mr.Purple ones had a really good result too!
