Discussion 👥 SDI to PFL

Hello everyone!
Just wanting to know if I do my PFL application today or tmr? I was extended until 10/22 and my portal shows my expected return to work date is 10/23. I got paid up to 10/19. Today I submitted my certification from 10/20 - 10/22.

Am I able to do my PFL application today or is my first day for bonding not until tmr since I submitted certification today?

❔ SDI Certification

I called Kaiser and they stated that my doctor submitted the requested paperwork and ROMI sent it in. It’s been since 10/11 since my last payment and my claim status still says certification needed. Do I have to fill anything out as well. There’s no documentation for me to sign.

❔ Would I gave "good cause" to leave/get unemployment?

Hi everyone! I'm considering quitting my serving job soon and want to know if anyone would think I would qualify for "good cause". For the last 3 maybe 4 months one of the shift leads who is a close "personal" friend of the owner has purposefully targeted me: she locks into me and constantly critiques my work, makes me do tasks she has never makes anyone else do, and talks about me behind my back to everyone. She even said to one of my coworkers that she can't fire me, but she can try to make me quit. I messaged HR about this and had a phone call with them, and HR never got back to me. It's been about two months since the HR call. Nothing has really improved and she still is particularly mean to me, all of my coworkers see this.

But after being sick a few weeks ago and using a paid sick day, she decided to take me off the schedule from 5 days to 4 days per week. This is illegal in California. And they never applied my sick time even though I specified I wanted to.

A few days ago my boss also just yelled at me and a coworker in the kitchen and then started laughing at us, he also is quite rude to people and intimidates me when I try to push back on what he says. It's a really toxic environment. I want to leave but I'm afraid I won't be able to get unemployment, I don't make too much money as it is and I don't want to deplete my savings.

Would it be a good idea to quit and try to get unemployment?

❔ For those who had to contact your local assembly member

How long did it take them to resolve your issue or get back to you? I contacted mine on Monday, I followed up with them via email today and they just said we’ll be in touch when we have an update. I’m getting anxious, so many bills due and rents coming up.

❔ State Disability Insurance eligibility window reset?

• Upvotes

Tried getting in contact with EDD on this but can never get through to representative, and unfortunately HR contact at my father's company is useless... but my dad went on FMLA a few months ago and was scheduled to return this past Monday. My dad elected not to pursue SDI to supplement his income during the 45 day window because it was too much (his words) for only being out for 12 weeks.

Unfortunately my dad had to be rushed to ER right before he was set to return and is in ICU currently post emergency surgery. He's slowly improving but it will probably be a few months until he can go back to work.

I've provided HR with doctor's note from the case worker but when talking to them on the phone, they did say they originally tried to get my dad to apply for disability payments back when he first went on leave and maybe should pursue that again.

I'm just not sure if being admitted to hospital would "reset" that 45 day enrollment window?

Also if it helps, my dad did use up his accrued sick and vacation time while on his initial leave.

Discussion 👥 Proof of relationship document

My husband filed for PFL for bonding time with our son more than one month ago. About a week ago he got a letter in the mail saying that he needs to upload or mail the birth certificate as proof of relationship (instead of the hospital birth certificate that he originally uploaded). He uploaded the birth certificate however, there has not been confirmation of receipt. The EDD AI Chatbot says to mail in the physical copy. However in the portal it says, do not mail in something if you’ve already uploaded it or it will cause delays. It’s now been more than seven business days and he still hasn’t received a payment. Any ideas on what he should do?

Discussion 👥 Question regarding HIPPA

While completing my SDI application, I reached the HIPAA authorization section that requests my medical provider’s name.

Should I list the medical facility or the doctor who approved my disability?

Common sense suggests the doctor’s name, but I want to avoid any mistake and be certain.

❔ Filed Disability on 10/03. Haven't received payments. It has been more than 14 days.

Anyone been in a simular situation and know when to expect a payout? Under Claim Activity, it says the claim is under a "Waiting Period".

We've tried contacting the EDD Disability line but there is virtually no way to speak to a live person. It's only an automated message telling us what we already know from our portal.
