Discussion 👥 EDD office said there was overlap between Unemployment and SDI?

So long story short, I have been waiting for SDI claim to clear since medical certification was received on 9/30.

I couldn't get ahold of anyone by phone so I went to the office and they told me there was overlap between my unemployment from 9/16 and my Disability claim, which began on 9/14.

The only issue is, I didnt certify for the whole week of 9/16 and made sure there was no overlap. Then I made sure to stop the benefits that week as well.

I am freaking out thinking, maybe I overlapped by a day accidentally?

The guy at the counter said he was escalating it, but the resolution could take a month. Anyone have any experience with this?

❔ Pregnancy disability no payment

I’ve been on leave for about 6 weeks and have yet to receive any payment from the edd. Some of this is my fault as I was delayed in submitting the medical provider form to my doctor, but it’s been noted as received by the edd and it’s been over 14 days since. It’s approaching the end of the month, bills are due, does anyone know where I can go to talk to a person to figure out why my payments have been delayed for so long?

News 📰 State of CA strike!

Just a heads up for you guys, there is a scheduled strike tomorrow so a lot of places may be short staffed. This is due to our governor and state leadership unable to give state workers a liveable wage that they deserve. Expect possible long wait times.

❔ Provider Suggestions for SDI

I have been seeing a provider for over a year for mental health issue stemming from years of fertility treatment and recurrent loss. My provider is refusing my leave request because of what seems to be an office policy against granting disability in general. I have medical records to substantiate all my issues and extensive treatment, and have never taken a medical leave before in my life. I am hoping to obtain a disability note for my employer, and 2-3 months of short term disability (CA).

Can anyone suggest a doctor that can help me submit a SDI (CA) claim on short notice?

❔ EDD traveling abroad for 2 weeks, how should I handle certification?

Hey everyone, I’m currently on unemployment in California and have a holiday trip to France planned from Nov 2 to Nov 18.

Should I just not certify the two weeks i will be in France or I need to contact EDD to let them know I will be in holiday during this time?

Has anyone dealt with this before? Just trying to figure out the right way to handle it without messing up my claim. Thanks!

❔ Delays in active PFL claim payments?

I have half of my PFL benefit remaining, and it has been almost a month since I’ve received a payment. I am taking some PTO (8 hours a week) to help cover my health insurance while I’m on paternity leave and so I have to submit the continued claim certification form.

They sent me the form for the first two weeks right away, and those weeks were paid out within a week from submitting the form online. I received another certification form for my third week and submitted it promptly. That was 3 weeks ago now and I’ve not received any payment, communication, or updates of any kind. I’ve also not received any new certification forms.

There is no update in the payment status part of the portal, but I have a receipt number for the form that was uploaded so I know it went through. Previously I was able to send a secure message through the portal on the AskEDD page by going to the Paid Family Leave > Miscellaneous Inquiry page, but it seems that option has since been removed. I can’t get through to anyone on the phone (I’m sure that surprises no one).

Is anyone else experiencing delays in payment like this? Should I continue waiting in hopes that it works itself out, or is it best to take action by either going in person to the office or paying for the robo call service? I can’t stretch funds for now but will be in some trouble soon here if this doesn’t get worked out. Looking for advice!

TLDR: My claim was processing as expected but it’s now been almost a month since my last payment with no communication about what could be happening.

Vent Payment delayed and money running out

Hi! Currently on short term disability and an Eligibility Questionnaire was sent to my inbox in the portal. I hadn’t checked in about a week since my last payment on 9/29, opened and completed the questionnaire. It is now the 21st and it still hasn’t been processed. I was planning on going into the office tomorrow but now I’m hearing there is a strike?!

The holiday last week I’m sure also is affecting the delay.

I have 2 young kids, I’m a nursing student, and I’m running out of money. What can I do? What happens now?
Going to a food bank tomorrow…

Tips 💡 SDI extension postpartum

I’m about 10 weeks postpartum currently. I took the 4 weeks prior to delivery and was eligible for 6 weeks for vaginal birth. Then at my 6 week postpartum appointment I let them know that I was having symptoms of ppd/ppa and was extended 4 additional weeks. My OB let me know that any further extensions would need to be done by psychiatrist or my PCP. my 4 weeks is up tomorrow(wednesday) and I think I waited too long to establish those appointments. I had an initial appointment Monday with a psychiatrist and she let me know that because it was only our first appointment she wouldn’t be able to extend me but asked me to see if my OB would extend me for another week while I got my follow up visit established. My OB wouldn’t budge and said she can’t extend it. I have an appointment tomorrow with my PCP, but I’m set to return to work tomorrow since I haven’t received any more extensions. I don’t feel like I’m ready to return to work as I am still having intrusive thoughts and panic attacks but I don’t know how to go about it. I don’t qualify for baby bonding time because I haven’t been at my company for one year, if i’m understanding correctly. Will my PCP be able to extend my existing claim? at least until my follow up with my psychiatrist. how should I go about bringing this up with HR? they keep asking me if I will be returning to work but I don’t know how to go about it since i’m set to return the same day I have my appointment with my PCP.

Hi, does anyone know how to get to an actual live person at PFL? I am 8 weeks postpartum waiting to get paid after switching from disability to baby bonding PFL and I got a letter in the mail that they need to speak to me but I can’t get a hold of them. I have called so many times at different times and keep getting the same message about too many callers. Please help :(

Tips 💡 Extending pregnancy disability - doctor will not see me until AFTER 6 weeks

Hello!

I went on disability at 36 weeks, and I’ve now delivered my baby at 39 weeks. I understand I have 6 weeks post delivery to take for disability. I would like to extend my disability prior to moving to PFL. My doctor said she will NOT see me until after 6 weeks have passed. How do I go about filing? Am I just unpaid until I get that clearance?

Adding in another question that was brought up - does this also mean she needs to wait to file for PFL until her doctor appointment?

Discussion 👥 Freaking Out: Has Anyone’s Application Ever Disappeared From Their Dash?

Hello, I submitted EDD application on September 29 for an injury that happened September 26. Until yesterday every time I checked, I had the claim number with the status saying processing claim. I even received a text message saying that they received part a part B of my application to wait 14 days. However, yesterday and today I logged into my portal and that new application is no longer visible. It doesn’t even say denied. Has this ever happened to anyone if so, what did it mean?

Solved ✔ Received letter for 1257a What does this mean? How to appeal?

I submitted a UI claim when my company relocated to another state & I did not. The company contested my claim, I filled out a questionnaire. I received a letter than I'm not eligible per 1257A "beginning 10/11 until you have filed a claim for each of 05 weeks in which you are otherwise eligible for benefits". What does this mean? The only thing I can think of is a question asked why I chose terminated due to relocation. I answered it was the closest choice to relocation. I did not accept relocation or severance payments. What should I say to appeal? Repeat what I said previously doesn't seem to make sense. I provided company letters that all employees must be in a new location as of X/XX date. My last day was the day before. Help me understand what they need from me.

Tips 💡 SDI IME Denial

So…. Went on disability on 9/18 for stress in life am at work. I’m an RN. Working bedside. At a level 1 trauma center in east Oakland dealing with all of that plus a huge commute to work 90+ miles one way and stress at home from never being there. Add in the new manager I got investigating everything and I finally hit the point where I said k it’s time for a leave. 3 weeks into my leave I get a letter from EDD I need to submit to an independent medical evaluation. Mind you it’s 100 miles from my house. Gas is $7 a gallon. And you must take first available. I had barely had 1 appointment with an EAP therapist and was waiting for an appt with my Kaiser pcp. Certified as normal on Friday. Called today to find out the IME Dr decided I was fine to work on the day I had my appt. They denied my claim. Paid me up to 10/8 and basically told me best of luck. Lists my return to work date at 10/9. Called the IME dr and basically said wtf did you said to EDD. He claimed he doesn’t make the decisions and referred me back to a supervisor. Thank god for EDD dialer because today they dialed EDD on my behalf 1,304 times. So anyone have any experience with the appeal. I am not ready to go back to work. Certified off until 11/19 but can’t be off without income. I may be anxious AF and stressed but believe I’m a nurse and under pressure I can do amazing things so with the help of ChatGPT I’ve got a 26 page appeal with medical records and a letter. Any help is appreciated. TIA

❔ Applying for CA SDI but forgot to update my driver’s license

Hi all, I (26F) moved to California and have been working here for the last 2 years. I was recently diagnosed with cancer and am applying for CA SDI to cover the time I will be unable to work during treatment/recovering from surgery.

While looking into the things I need to do before applying, I realized that I never updated my driver’s license from my old state (I guess I forgot and just never got around to it)! I saw on EDD that driver’s license and SAA are the main places they go for verification. I do not have any address information in SSA since I do not receive any benefits yet but called them and found out if they need address info they go to the IRS (which should be right).

Do I need to worry about my driver’s license showing my old address and old state? Should I try to update it ASAP before starting the CA SDI application process? Or is it okay that my license is outdated? I am trying to juggle a lot before treatment begins so if I can avoid a rushed trip to the DMV that would be really nice. Thank you for the help!

Tell me how the sec it changed to 8am the maximum people waiting has been reached.

How you guys do it?

Solved ✔ Disability/PFL question

After fighting the longest battle with edd over my disability pay for my maternity leave my problem was just solved today. I still have to wait for my wages to be available and was told that could take 7-10 business days. My disability period is over and I am starting my family bonding portion of my maternity leave. I'm supposed to apply for the paid family leave today. My question is should I wait to do so until I receive my wages from disability pay? Or should I go ahead and apply for paid family leave now? One of the questions for it was asking if I received disability pay and I don't know if I should mark yes or no because technically I haven't yet. I feel like I should just wait until I verify my disability wages first.

Thank you.

Discussion 👥 Issues with SDI extension

Does anyone else have issues with this? I mailed my extension form that my doctor filled out at the very beginning of October. 2 days later I received a message stating that they received it. Ever since then the status switches between processing and certification needed. After weeks of attempting to get ahold of someone I just contacted my local assembly member.
I haven’t been paid in almost a month and I have a 2 month old but every single person I contacted pretty much just said sorry can’t help try calling the disability line or go to the nearest office ( which is an hour away). I’ve literally cried so many times out of frustration. Having a newborn and not having any income is so stressful.

Solved ✔ FMLA will be up next week but disability still extended

hello,

I have been on disability for 3 months now for mental health. my job said my position is only protected for 3 months. I am a bartender so it’s not an important job but I know they are going to want to fill my position. I think my psych nurse is going to extend my disability longer because she wants me to start TMS treatment and I am still not in a good headspace. if my job lets me go, once I’m able to start working again would I qualify for unemployment until I can find another job? I’m so nervous, but I am also in a terrible headspace and am scared if I return before I get better Ill just end up getting myself fired due to my depressive episodes. thanks.
