Disclaimer: I'm a yank.

I started watching Premier League games in 2014, and through a slow process of elimination landed on the Toffees as the team I'd follow through relegation and back. It's been twelve years since then, and I haven't quite had the blues like I have this week.

I had to go to Europe for a work trip, first time leaving the US, so I figured I'd stop off in the UK to try and catch a game live. The week after is an international break, so it's gotta be the week before. Playing Arsenal in London? I have a cousin there and I can do other sight seeing. Sounds good enough. I know it's an away game and it'll be hard to get tickets, but I'll give it a shot.

The backup plan is obviously just watch it at a pub and hang out with some local fans. Still sounds like an experience worth having!

Well, I got one day of sightseeing in before getting hit with the flu. I've been laid up in an Airbnb that's under active noisy construction, sweating through every article of clothing I brought, having fever dreams for four days straight. I lost sense of time and space. I learned your cold meds are way better than ours. I got used to running around the corner in the rain to get a Lucozade and some ramen. Maybe that's the true UK experience?

But finally, the fever breaks. I wake up today with some energy and the consolation thought: at least I get to put on my Coleman jersey and watch the game with a beer and some of you fine folks.

...and then I learn about your damned Saturday 3PM blackout.

...

...

Everton that.

Travelling Toffees, where are we all drowning our sorrows celebrating Barry's hattrick after the game?

Yeh, I don’t think he was ready for the move.

Extremely talented player but don’t know if he has the IQ to play in this city team.

He’s perfect for a club like us, ball progress machine and runs at defenders. But for this city team that likes to flick it around quite a lot not sure he suits it.

Think he would’ve done better at Spurs tbh.

Off to Emirates. Arsenal's third game in a week. We're looking to rebound.

Make sure your predictions are in before the first whistle or they won't count.

Rules are:

-Post your predictions here. Must be a top level comment. Replies to other comments won't be automatically counted

-Will only take predictions before the scheduled game start

-Please type your prediction as home-away e.g a home win could look like 3-0. An away win could look like 1-2. Everton does not default to the first score in your prediction

Scoring will go like this:

-If you get the scores and the result exactly right you get 3 points (perfect prediction)

-If you get the result right (eg you predict a 1-0 win for Everton but we end up winning 7-1) but the score isn't correct, you get 1 point (correct result)

-If the score and result are wrong you get 0 points

Good luck and UTFT!

What a win for the girls yesterday! We had to be patient after hitting the post in the first half, but Ornella Vignola coming off the bench and scoring twice in two minutes was brilliant. She completely changed the game. That's five home wins on the bounce now, and Goodison is starting to feel like a difficult place for teams to come again. Newcastle made us work for it, but the team got the job done when it mattered. Two wins from two in the League Cup and we're sitting top of the group. Great to see the momentum building, and let's hope we can keep this run going.

Merlin Rohl initially approached his book Behind the Lens: Life with Everton with caution.

“I don’t want to have my camera and just put it in people’s faces,” he says, “and when the player is very famous, like Jack Grealish, it’s just not the right thing to photograph him in the beginning and just put it on my Instagram or use them to promote my book.”

But he was encouraged by the early response in the dressing room and positive words from Baines and then club captain Seamus Coleman.

It allowed Rohl to see a different side to stars such as Grealish. “It was crazy,” Rohl says. “He’s completely different to what people may think on the outside. He’s such a lovely human who cares for everybody.

“I had a great connection with Beto, too. Sometimes when people see my camera, they act a certain way, but he was very nice to photograph. He did not change when I put my camera on him and that’s a nice quality for somebody to have.

“I really miss him. What a person he is.”

Someone posted the Atlantic article, but this is the Everton YouTube interview and promo for Merlin's photo book from his first season at the club. Though y'all might enjoy it if you haven't seen it yet.

Strange game for us while copping our first loss of the season. The stats also tell the story and I'll expand on that a bit more than usual.

First off we had 93 predictions for the week. 42(45.2%) predicted a win, 21(22.6%) went for a draw, with 30(32.3%) correctly picking the loss. There were 3 perfect predictions! Congratulations to: u/CapedConsumit, u/Pipo59, u/mp0323

Shoutout to the current overall leader of the prediction threads: u/Pipo59 with 10 points!

Average predicted score was 1.75 to 1.67. Actual xG was 0.43-1.47. That's the lowest xG we've had all season and the lowest Chelsea has conceded in the PL this season. What's most shocking to me was how low our xG from open play was. It's an outlier and it best stay that way.

“777 is the best partner to take our great club forward,” then Everton owner Farhad Moshiri said in September 2023, after agreeing to sell his 94 per cent shareholding in Everton to private investment company 777 Partners.

That quote, from the man whose tenure saw Everton reach the brink of administration, has not aged well.

Just over three years on, Josh Wander, the co-founder of the Miami-based 777, has pleaded guilty to charges of defrauding the company's lenders and investors.

This is how close Wander came to buying Everton — and why it serves as a cautionary tale with the club back up for sale again.
