I come from CK3, but I've logged 60+ hours into EU5 by playing on and off over the last year or so. I tried picking the game back up this weekend, playing as Ottomans, because they're supposed to be the easiest nation to pick up and play.
I've got the hang of estates & the fundamental country management tabs. I clear the early game okay, go to war with Byzantium & get Constantinople, Karamanids, most of western Anatolia is under my reign. I hand off a lot of land to vassals because it's expensive to sit on land that I have no control over.
After the bubonic plague sweeps through, I feel like all of the early-game buffs are completely gone. My manpower has significantly decreased. The 15+ easy ducats per month has turned red. The expenses keep piling up even though I try to delete unprofitable buildings. The majority of my time is spent mitigating debt, low stability, and low legitimacy. I finally turn it around, gear up, take the Eretnids, and now I have a coalition that completely steamrolls me, I sue for peace and end up with every problem being 10x worse than before.
I'm tired of feeling like I've spent an entire day and lots of effort working on a project that was doomed from the start. What am I missing? Do I need to sit down and watch those hours of tutorials on YouTube & take notes in order to actually play this game?
