Modding Normal Dark Ages screenshots with nothing changed whatsoever. Spoiler
galleryQuestion So how do you guys feel about base game Dark Ages combat now? Cuz I’m in love.
So I’m pretty sure lots of us have had time to get through dark ages and revelations, and in that many of us have done a ton of replaying or ripatorium. But now I’m curious.
Has revelations changed your view on base game Dark Ages? Cuz it rly has changed mine.
I love revelations and I’ve gotten so much better since I started dark ages (literally look at the attached vid from a long time ago)
Honestly i thought that base dark ages was a tad lacking, even with how much love i had for it then.
Revelations has expanded my horizon so much. Not only cuz of spear, but I’ve been integrating shield so much more in my ripatorium combat. And in short, it taught me so much about the shield and how fun it can be.
For example, shield bash falter into some sort of combo and if the enemy is in execution, throw the shield at them to falter other enemies, and then execute. Then just use that time to lock down another enemy.
On top of that revelations has shown me use for every weapon. I never used to use rocket launcher or the shredder. But now i realise how useful it is, particularly for combing mancubi.
Even the ravager i was terrible with cuz the slow movement speed, but now ik that i can use it on a locked target, bash out of the area into a far away enemy, and obliterate everything else. I love it.
Anyways I’m replaying base game for like the 5th time now lol its so fun and I’m still learning and optimising weapon usages. Overall for me personally, dlc taught me the value of base game combat, and now its starting to get rly close to overtaking eternal. No offence to eternal, I’ll always go back, but the combat loop in dark ages is starting to feel far better for me personally and the fact that I’m learning things on my own is only adding to that.

Discussion Best 16 dollars I ever spent are on Doom Eternal + DLC
During PS store summer sale I got Doom Eternal with full content and cosmetics for 16 usd. I only knew about the game from everyday gaming culture + my favorite DJ has "Doom" logo tattoed. So I got it not knowing a lot...
Here I am collecting rhe last slayer key for the secret weapon before heading to Nekravol. This morning before work I didn't have time to play so while drinking coffee I read the codex lore. I know that this is a game that is heavy on gameplay, but lore and aesthetics are equally interesting to me.
Nothing else to add, just happy I entered this world.

Discussion doom revelations is overrated, yet it earned ALL OF IT Spoiler
DISCLAIMER: im playing this on PS5 so i have no idea how it plays on pc, all I know is that pc players are not having a good time with the forced ray tracing and what not
SPOILERS FOR ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING
I am playing this on 150% speed nightmare lowest parry window/dodge window/lowest resources
Sorry for the delayed review like writing this is already so challenging because whenever i write anything correlating to doom revelations i just want to go back and play it lol
I made a review on the base game a while ago by a while i mean 1 year yippee, some of the points i made i dont agree with now mainly bc my view on video games has changed somewhat, but basically the dlc came out like 3 months ago and holy hell, this dlc is actually insane, it lived up to the hype no... it surpassed all the expectations and i say this with absolute confidence i believe this dlc is probably the definitive doom experience, it turned the base game which was already good into one of my all time favourites
The base game was pretty good even looking back at it now, i say its still not the best doom game, it moved lower on my ranking of the doom games as time went on but i still play it time to time, i never really tried out the ripatorium mainly bc it wasnt my thing(i just get overwhelmed with the options) so i was just waiting on the dlc playing it between semi regularly? but the point is i enjoyed it a lot, but the dlc came out after like around an year later of the base game showcasing they were taking their time with it rather than having limits within 1 year/pandemic like tag1, and this dlc really was amazing
It starts out sort of like tag1 where they dump you in with all the upgrades, expecting you to already know how to play the game, like tag1 you have to change everything to your preferences but its not as annoying as it was in tag1 mainly because you only need to change your stuff to what youre comfortable with so you dont have to change every single mod you want to use/runes, its not as braindeadly difficult as atlantica but its also not easy, its still hard enough to tell you this dlc will be a harder challenge than hugo said it was going to be in his streams
The dlc is much faster paced not only like just by combat, by introductions of new enemies, It introduces new enemies really quickly, youre introduced to 3 new enemies in the new level, the health zombie which is ABSOLUTELY nessescary for this dlcs combat because of how crazy everything is, the buzzsaw which is sort of a skill check, hes agile and can dodge a lot of attacks, and a shield that can take 3 fully charged chainshots, if ur using the impaler u can target his little opening or be fast enough to flank him but at the moment youre not agile enough to do that, hes a pretty fun enemy to fight, it introduces the aggadon brute which has beefed up every attack but one of his 3 homing projectiles is parryable so hes quite easier than a normal aggadon, this is a syndrome repeated in the DLC, they make an enemy variant, beef up every attack, and remove/make an attack weaker and then they become easier just from that
You get a scripted defeat from belias and then get sent to purgatory where we see the wretch from doom 2016s codex, your health armor/ammo count is lower, bfc is gone, and your shield is broken, and you have to relearn the entire combat system with a new offhand weapon/aka the spear
The spear is A LOT different than the shield, the game feels so wierd without the shield, and its basically a vessel of eternals mechanics/aka a double dash which is momentum based now, and a slash which you use to destroy armor and fodder crowds, and you parry with it, the reach is generous, but the parry is much more timing based than the shield, its not as simple as just reacting to the projectile, since blocking an attack at a certain time is what causes parrying if you miss a parry you will still block it, but here if you miss a parry with the spear, nope, you failed the parry youre getting hit, making parrying a lot more difficult/also more rewarding, not by just personal satisfaction but its greater faltering capabilities, one parried attack of an aggadon is instantly going to falter it rather than two, its fun
You also have dodging through dashing with a very nice distinguishable sound cue which i absolutely love listening to, its so exaggerated yet so clean to listen to i just keep wanting to hear it again and again, it is how you build up spear empowerment at the start(upgrading to get it by parries and executions/which is nicer), it doesnt send the attack back at the enemy, but its much safer than trying to parry which could get you hit if you fail
the meathook makes a return.... YIPPEE, completely unexpected, i remember someone saying it wont exist in tda because it wont fit in it but holy hell they managed to make it work, you can use it to fly around the arena and it allows for verticality/making levels more complex and interesting, you can upgrade it to fling yourself towards enemies to execute them, you can use it to orbit them(which i believe is absolutely broken), and destroys every single enemy effortlessly because everything is in slow motion lol, you can upgrade it to give armor and upgrade it to be used twice in the air, its also got less of a cooldown and if you use it incorrectly you could get killed
The dlc also greatly improves the magnitude of violence, an issue i really had with the base game was its lack of violence, i am not nessescarily saying to absolutely bring back glory kills, but just improve the magnitude of blood, gore, dismemberment, and internal organs, that issue was solved in the dlc, theres a lot more gore and glory kills/tied to verticality so youll see them a lot more, and plus the slash upgrade to execute multiple enemies at a time is glorious, People defend the execution by saying "oh if it was glory kills then the combat would get tedious seeing animations and would disrupt the flow of gameplay" yeah that point is valid even though we could have seen more violence but even synchronized melee animations would disrupt the flow of gameplay because of how much enemies are on screen, so you can execute multiple enemies at a time and cut their torsos off as they are sent flying its just so fun, the violence level has greatly been improved, the glory kills are more brutal, i just love it, you can also upgrade your spear throw to give you a speed boost which makes spear parries all that more satisfying
when you get empowerment you unlock 3 new attacks throw stab and slam, the throw is great, even though its basic, headshots bring explosions sort of bringing back the weak point system from doom eternal/guranteed explosion on aerial demons like cacodemons or the new pain elemental, you can upgrade it to bypass the infuriating indestructable cacodemons shield/shield projectiles in general, you can use it to cause explosions from those dumb acolyte cocoons, aggadon indestructable shields, and the verticality makes the ground fall serve more as utility rather than just power fantasy, its just so fun, they made the game so much more mechanically dense and deep, and raised the skill ceiling by a huge margin,
The slam is probably the one i used most because i like its aoe and faltering even though it has very little damage the reason i used it a lot is because of the health you get from enemies in the radius from an upgrade, which allows for fun drowning in health pickups similar to doom eternal, its also great for just being a fun get out of jail free card
The stab is like a blood punch with strong faltering capabilities, it breaks armor and stuns the new annoying archvile warlock and some other teleporting enemies with upgrades, and you can explode summoned enemies with it its just so much content man, this is just so damn fun
You also have some base spear upgrades including the empowerment build and you can hit back minigun fire with dashes with an upgrade but the others are just faster dashes more empowerment storage but even then they are all so meaningful, The spear adds so much mechanical density and entertainment I just love it so much
The spear also makes the shield so much better by simply just existing, The shields runes/ auto turret, ground fissure, heaven splitter, holy swarm in the main campaign was just adding to the power fantasy but now they actually have utility and make the shield more interesting, you cant use it for the whole game(if you do its going to be much harder) because of the sheer intensity of the encounters the shield alone cant efficiently keep up with, but when you learn to switch them on the fly? its game over, its like you earned the power fantasy, consistently shield bashing and obliterating aggadons and other annoying enemies you once struggled for hours on, its just so fun and engaging i just dont even know how to describe it
The dlc also introduces more enemies such as the archvile which is a pain in the ass making his eternal counterpart look like a saint, he DOESNT stop moving, and for whatever reason his attacks delete your hp in one hit, but the demons he summons are weaker, hes annoying as hell, but that makes it all that much more satisfying taking him out like nothing
The blighted hell knight is a great reminder of the shields usefulness, The nightmare whiplash is annoying when youre on the ground but because youre in the air a lot more youre not dealing with that toxic waste trail it leaves around, The nightmare revenent is a 2hit to the ssg, but if you leave him alone he will kill you
You also get the pain elemental who is a big step up from his doom eternal counterpart and for the first time dark ages has weapon incentive, surprising, his lost souls are absolute torture and shred your hp so quickly, eternals lost souls werent that strong or relevent, you can use explosives to clear out his little circle of souls but then hes going to pull a lost soul out of his ass while your weapon is getting ready to fire again(if youre using a singleshot weapon), thats going to delete you, pretty good reminder of automatic weapons and even then you can still be satisfied destroying him without them
Theres the vagary but buff idk what its real name is who is so annoying i dont even know how to describe it, theres an armored archvile variant sort of like the aggadon brute they remove one attack and make most of everything stronger and then he ends up easier,
The warlock is basically the lovechild of doom eternals archvile and doom TDAS acolyte, it teleports pretty slow and has very less health but he takes your attention in the arena, but blinds your screen with fog and summons these dumb projectiles that are a pain to get through, and he buffs enemies, which can get VERY bad
The story is also a step up, its simple yet complex and interesting at the same time, you see doomguys backstory, the wretch from 2016, marok and the other sentinel stuff, the khan makyr, the high council, and a lot more, i dont wanna talk about it too much otherwise this would take too much time to write
exploration is a step up from the base game, its more interesting and entertaining featuring backtracking and so on, the puzzles are also so much more interesting and theres also relics which are compacted bags of iron(currency in the DLC)
It also adds a hub area which is just really fun to explore, a step up from doom eternals hub, theres lots of areas/encounters, puzzles, etc etc,
And the MUSIC oh my god its just peak, Finishing move heard all the criticism, and ones that didnt exist and came up with the most epic soundtracks of all time, probably some of the best, the high council is the introductory track and its unbelievably awesome, the criticism i had with the base games music while yeah i enjoyed it a lot more than i expected i think it could have used more medevial instruments, they took that and made it EPIC, the motifs of classic doom soundtracks was apparent too, waltz of the demons, the demons dead, sign of evil, shawns got the shotgun, suspense, its awesome, tracks like through the crimson tundra, fractal abyss are one of my favourite soundtracks in modern doom... which would make them one of my favourite soundtracks of all, unbelievable, the soundtracks awesomeness i cant even describe
The bosses are also awesome, Marok is enhanced azhrak but cooler, hes faster, more agile, more attacks that require thought to evade, and his theme oh my god, icon of sin and urdak motifs, the henchman is a fun scale and spectacle boss which plays on everything you learnt in the game, and xal goroth is the best of them, i know he was just a giant pain elemental with different attacks but hes still really fun
The end game content is great, theres recreations of classic levels, no not like 2016 where you just get to play classic levels, actual REMAKES, which give the 93 shotgun, which is good for when you have it but at a certain point you just dont use it anymore, you get the BFC back and theres rituals of power, the first 2 were great tests of your skill with mobility, the last 2 were kind of eh, the praetor fights were my favourite endgame content, long endurance tests of chaotic encounters, this game really needed something like slayer gates, the last one with 2 archviles was INSANE, completing these will lead to astral boss key allowing you to fight xal goroth previously mentioned and you unlock 4 master arenas theres just so much content, they really took their time with this expansion, its one of the best expansions ever made
Though there are some issues I have with it, mainly attributed to the fact re exploring a lot of the end game is pretty empty through areas where theres no fights anymore, or having to navigate a hell ton just to replay a praetor fight or something, i think what should have been done was more fights in the end game and when you beat lets say a praetor fight you get the thing in purgatory, where you can enter it from there at any time so you dont have to go back to the level all over again, and this doom is the perfect candidate for a new game plus, i would love to see that added some day
TL:DR Best piece of modern doom content, if you like modern doom, give this a try, youll love it

Question E2M6 Hall of Damned / First and last time I say this intimidating sign
Edit: "say" in title should be "saw". SRY.
It has been a while, years! And I decided to replay the classic Doom 1 from 1993.
It is interesting how my brain can still remember the game and also secrets and quirks of the levels. Also it is disheartening to realize that my tempo and agility on the game went down by a lot.
And then here I stay. E2M6 and I have a flashback from 1993/94. First time i saw this sign (no personell / access forbidden to humans) and me stopping cold on my steps. Fearing that some overly powerful monster may be hiding behind this door which would not open (because the switch is behind me and I missed it).
I just found it again. And now It hits me that I have not seen this again in the rest of the game or in Doom II
Was it used somewhere else? TNT / Plutonia?

Discussion Hot take, doom 64 is best on N64 with crt
The Doom 64 remaster to me is kind of like the doom 3 bfg edition, the game was made easier with more ammo and health pickups, as well as making the game brighter.
The remaster of doom 64 is similar, in the original release there was no save scumming, only being able to save in between levels, making enemy encounters feel way more tense and every decision feel alittle more impactful. the game was made to be played on a crt, when played on a crt the darkness issue is not really an issue anymore, just makes the games atmosphere even better, along with that N64 fog that was toned down a bit in the remaster

Discussion What is your opinion on Doom 64? Forgotten? Step down.. the true Doom 3??
Hope posting videos is ok, had a blast getting through Doom64 and wanted to know what the main subs thoughts on the 1997 game is?
For me:
-Its no Doom2 (what is)
-The OST is incredible, making some parts more thrilling than even D3
-Animations and enemies missing REALLY hamper this game

Help How do I make prboom have the correct aspect ratio?
Im using a crt and I have my in game resolution as 640x400 which is 16:10 but I stretched it to 4:3 because that’s how the game was intended to be played, no matter what settings I use the game has black bars and is stretched vertically I know I can just play on 480p but i prefer 400p for ms dos games what can I do to make it actually fit my display? I know i could also do OpenGL but it doesn’t look authentic.
