The general consensus of the community is that the nature of Renegades as a Star Wars expansion was a significant narrative detriment, especially in how it reshaped the Praxics and the Dredgens. I vehemently agree with this, but excluding that, is Renegades' story actually any good?
Renegades has a lot of rather convenient things. For starters, Nightfall Station.
Nightfall Station was able to be built so fast because the Nine were able to IIRC create a pocket dimension where time moves far faster. Now, this is the opposite of how increased gravity actually affects things, but more importantly it raises the question of why they don't do it again/more often if they're capable of it?
And then of course, Eclipse. Brand new energy type that just so happens to completely destroy Paracausality itself while being Causal. I needn't explain why this is convenient. I have seen a theory suggesting it might be a variation of what Nezarec's Nightmares are sourced from based on design and sound cues, which would be a far cooler direction, but the foundation of that theory is shaky.
You could also argue that the way the syndicates treat us makes no sense, considering how legendary the guardian is, but that ties back into Bungie trying to make it akin to Star Wars.
Lastly, the City. Political Unrest is an interesting idea, but the execution is sketchy at best, as it relies on the Vanguard suddenly acting like tyrants and not working to create any form of elected leadership.
Credit where it's due though, Bael's general story when viewed alongside the MoT additions is neat, even if his characterization if a straight rip-off of Kylo Ren.
