Almost a really nice run

Stage 1 of the Carolina Classic. 25.85 with 4 charlies, and a mike on the last target because I shot the vision barrier on the entry.

Great match and great staff. Hoping for better weather next year, because I've got a lot to work on. The swinger sequences on some of the stages were really nasty, and the match severely punished lack of visual discipline on long range targets, which I need to work on this off season.

Drill suggestions for a shooter who can only do static shooting?

Hello,

I'm a shooter in France aspiring to be part of IPSC shooting club.

IPSC discipline is not really available in France and the places are limited. I heard that one club will accomodate IPSC range near where I live.

I'd like to be prepared when it opens so I'm here looking for some suggestions for drills.

Here are some training environments and gadgets available to me

Range (static shooting, shooting belt is banned)

25m bullseye range

25m metal targets different sizes

Gadgets

Meta quest 3 ace virtual shooting (available soon)

Dryfire mag (available soon)

Shot timer

I regularly dryfire like from 30m to an hour everyday (movements, transition and draw).

Thank you for the suggestions in advance.

Traveling internationally

Planning on shooting my first IPSC match this summer (Ipsc Extreme in the Czech Republic), flying from the USA. How do I fly internationally with guns and is it better to buy & fly with ammo or is it better to buy ammo when over there? This will be my first time flying internationally with guns.

Grip & elbow question

While playing around with pistol backstraps I realized that the angle I grip with my firing hand (specifically where my thumb knuckle sits on the back of the grip and if the gun is pointed more left vs right in my grip) affects the angle I need to get my firing arm’s elbow into during presentation.

The more centered into the web of my firing hand the gun is, the more I need to cant my firing arm’s elbow towards my center. This is due to the barrel being more leftwards (I’m right handed).

The more I cant the gun’s barrel to the right, lining the back of the grip more with the meat of my palm under my thumb, the less I need to cant my elbow inward as the gun’s barrel is more rightward.

Which is better? I’ve heard you want to jam the web of your hand as far up on the grip as possible. This makes me think it’s better to embrace canting the elbow inward. It also seems to line the backward recoil vector more with my forearm bones. However, I’ve found that lining the back of the grip with the meat of the palm under the thumb makes for an easier presentation as I don’t have the additional muscle activation of canting the elbow. It also allows for a deeper trigger finger which I like. The trade seems to be a less anchored grip with the firing hand though

Kimber oem 20rds mags uspsa legal?

Just picked up a kimber 2k11 stainless for LO. Was seeing mixed stuff on another post about the included 2x 20rd mags being longer than 140mm or not. Intried to measure it myself but idk where to filly measure but from end to end it looked like I was at 147mm for the 20 rounder. Would just like to confirm so I know whether to buy 1 or 3 more 140mm mags from another manufacturer. Thanks!

Rowing + Marksmanship - An indoor Biathlon called Split Shot

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

Split Shot is a free indoor biathlon style event you can do in your basement.

Biathlon is cool, but almost nobody has access to it. 10m Olympic pistol is fantastic, but not very athletic, and not everyone has 33+ ft of basement. Rowing is the ultimate in endurance tests but pretty boring.

So I came up with Split Shot. It combines sprint and endurance rowing with one-handed marksmanship, and it’s harder than it sounds.

What you need: a rowing machine, any .177 pellet pistol (CO2, pump or PCP), a pellet trap, and about 20 ft. You shoot from 5 m (16.4 ft).

How it works: you row a leg, then shoot a stage at a 23 mm black. You do that four times. Every miss is 100 m of extra rowing before the next leg. One clock runs the whole time, and total time is the score.

Short: 4 × 750 m, 5 shots per stage

Full: 4 × 1500 m, 10 shots per stage

Long: 4 × 2500 m, 15 shots per stage

You shoot standing, one-handed, with no support and open sights only. Single-shot and magazine pistols are separate divisions, and so are Concept2 and WaterRower. The scoresheet prints on one page and has a scale check built in, so everyone shoots the same target.

My first short course: 24:22.9, 6 total misses. It was really hard!

It’s free and not a business; I just think it’s fun.

Two Page Target + Rules

One Page Target

If you try it, post your time and tag me. I would love to hear what you think

Be safe and follow all local laws!

Lo Gun

My 50th bd is coming up soon and my wife asked what I wanted and I told her a dedicated gun for limited optics. So I’ve been looking really hard at what I want. My issue is I have a large size hand with short fingers, Sold my Canik Rival S because the beaver tail area would wear a blister on my thumb knuckle because I had to rotate my hand around to reach the trigger even with the freedom smith installed. I shoot a Shadow 2 in carry optics and I know I can continue to use that but I want to try something new for LO. So my short list is….
MPA Loc v2
RC9 or Core
Waltz 9
My worry with MPA is I’ve read they have a super wide grip also my worry with the Waltz 9. RC9 looks promising and so does the core just wonder what the difference is between the 2 as far as recoil and mussel rise. I’ve entertained the DWX but doesn’t seem like they are very popular for USPSA.
For those of you with experience with any of these give me your thoughts especially if you’re handled multiple of these. TIA

407comp.507comp.507promax which one to choose?

Alot of shooters use the 507comp but now that the 407comp and 507 promax are now out which ones are to choose i recently looked at a 407comp and it is a pretty big dot I use a 5 moa sro but I am building another gun and want to put either of these options on it and is the 507promax worth its price or is the 507 or 407 more justifiable?

Spring & Follower Question

Hey everyone, I’m new to competition shooting but getting ready for my first match this upcoming weekend, just a local club steel challenge match. I’m running a 4.5” PDP with Henning mag extensions + MBX follower and spring. I’ve shot probably 550 rounds on the new MBX follower and spring and am beginning to have jamming issues. Gonna give the PDP a cleaning tonight since it’s prob been 800-1k rounds since she’s gotten a bath and I know this could be a factor, but typically PDPs run reliable like Glocks. Anyone else have issues with MBX springs and followers? Any recommendations for better springs & followers? Or do you just run the OEM spring & follower even with the extension?

Steel Challenge Rimfire 2011

Are there any other rimfire 2011s out there other than the CWA?

I'm growing less fond of the mk iv for steel challenge and want to move to a 1911/2011 style .22lr as I'm more comfrtable with that platform. Had an opportunity to shoot a friend's CWA and it was incredible. Struggle to spend $2500+ on a dedicated steel challenge gun though.

Are there any other manufacturer's out there worth considering?

Hello everyone. I have a question: could someone who owns a Colt SAA 7.5-inch tell me if this revolver is actually very large, or has it just grown to be that big in my imagination? I can't buy one right now, which is why I’m asking you.

Service Rifle Optics Build

Thumbnail

Hi all,

I wanted to show off my new Competition Service Rifle. I assembled everything you see here myself. I will post a parts list below for reference. Most of the stuff I got either on sale or through GAFS/FB Marketplace (lol).

The only “special” thing I did while building it was put some green Loctite on the barrel extension.

Currently the rifle weights a little over 14 pounds. It is wearing a second-hand Gen 1 Hi-Lux XTC scope (whose reticle I wasn’t crazy about at first but am now really liking). The first thing I think I will change out will be the Aero mount for a Geissele Super Precision Extended Mount, but I’m actually prettt impressed by the quality and robustness of the Aero Mount. It’s not too terribly high or low either.

I was encouraged by a fellow shooter to make the jump from an iron-sight NM A2 upper (which I will be keeping of course) to an optics upper.

I’ve been shooting service rifle on and off the past year. Earned my first four EIC points with a Garand earlier this year. Plan to be very active the next few years in hopes of getting my remaining 26 points plus a hard leg.

I have a long way to go and still need to buy some extra equipment, but I really love this sport and feel there’s no other discipline I enjoy more than this one.

Thanks for reading! Have a great day!

Looking to get into comp shooting

Whats up guys I’m looking to start competition shooting but I’m getting a lot of mixed suggestions as to what pistol would be a good semi beginner choice, my budgets right around 800$ preferably lower.
I’ve been shooting occasionally since I was a small child (I’m now 22) and recently took a major interest in competition, I have a RIA 1911 mid compact but find it to be inaccurate compared to many other handguns I’ve shot.
I’m looking at a lot of canniks ( tti combat, sfx rival )
But I’m open to suggestion any advice for joining the hobby or what to look for is appreciated.
Thanks.

Glock 17 Gen 5 — looking for a proper home dry-fire routine

Hey, I train practical/dynamic pistol shooting and usually shoot at 7.5, 10 and 15 meters(8 / 10/ 16 yards)

I use a Glock 17 Gen 5, completely stock apart from aftermarket iron sights with colored markings. Stock trigger, springs and internals. I also think about change the connector.

My main issue is that pretty much everything lands low and left. I suspect my grip and trigger control, but I haven’t had the cause properly diagnosed.

I’ve got a 9mm laser training cartridge and electronic targets from AliExpress. This is the exact setup I have:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJL5cHPv9d0

I want to take dry fire at home seriously and build a consistent routine that helps me improve my fundamentals. At the moment I don’t really know how to structure it or tell whether I’m making progress.

What would you recommend as a starting point? Also interested in hearing from people who use a similar laser setup? Ofcourse Im shooting everything great at house using laser setup in 5 meters. but in shooting range, everything is left-low ;)

Both eyes open!

Does anyone have training tips for both eyes open while shooting? I am cross dominant, right hand and left eye dominant. Each time I shoot with both eyes open, the target comes up as double vision.
