Anyone know the story behind Firehouse Subs closing on Dublin and Powers?

Anyone know of any local women’s 18+ lacrosse leagues? I’ve applied to Riveters via their CSBOXLA website, emailed them, and messaged them on their official Instagram account, but I haven’t received any solid answer for information on try outs or any scheduled practice/games. I just want to play. At this point I’m happy to just scrimmage for the team to practice against lol.

I am a TTRPG enthusiast without an in-person game at the moment due to scheduling conflicts. Torchbearer 2E has just dropped hard copies of their updated Middarmark setting which compels me to try and find 3 to 5 foolhardy souls to brave the challenges of this grim, dark, and dangerous norse folklore inspired world. I have posted on LGS discords and boards already, but also posting here to cast as wide a net as possible because these games I like are rough for finding interested players.

Torchbearer is the classic adventuring little brother of Burning Wheel. It is very narrative and very crunchy game-y at the same time. It is a survival adventure procedural story game at its heart. Combat is a part of it, of course, but is a less central aspect to play than many other fantasy TTRPGs. You take on the role of a group of outsiders, mistrusted wastrels and vagabonds more than heroes (at the start, at least). You have nothing and so you must brave perilous wilds and cursed tombs to pry what coppers you can from the eyes of the dead before you yourself join them.

If you like engaging with a thick tight mechanical play loop where detailed resource management makes every torch and every ration count, this might be for you. You battle against the environment as much as the blades of your foes, fighting hunger, fear, and disease as well as injury. If you can outlast these pressures you may just succeed in service of your Belief and your Creed and make something of yourself in this harsh land. NOTE - the game is punishing in ways, but is actually much more survivable than many others.

I am looking to average a roughly 3 hour session at least every couple weeks. Torchbearer plays best when you can play it for a while, so the dream would be a solid run of a dozen sessions at least. I am not sure what day we will play yet, we'll see when interested folks are available.

As a kid I was always taught that it is NEVER ok for a grownup to ask to look at your private parts.

If we start having a situation where kids are taught that it’s normal for a grownup in an authority position to look at your genitals, it’s very easy for predators to manipulate children.

For example, say a kid goes to the normal, trusted family doctor for a government mandated visual inspection so they can be authorized to play sports.

Then, the next year they go on a trip with their soccer team and their friend’s dad tells the kid now HE has to do an inspection, too.

A kid wouldn’t realize that they can and should report that.

They wouldn’t know it was inappropriate.

(And regarding the sports doctor who would be carrying out the inspection— Larry Nassar literally did this to the child gymnasts he was supposed to be treating— violating them with his hand under a blanket, often in the middle of a conversation with the parents in the same room.

The parents thought that what he was doing was necessary and important for the health of their kids, when in fact he was just assaulting them. The kids didn’t know that it was assault because they took their cues from the parents, who stayed calm and kept talking to the doctor, thinking what he was doing was normal and necessary).

Predators would be drawn to positions where they could get away with this and have plausible deniability and an endless supply of potential victims.

I’m so disturbed by this thought, and I know this is an uncomfortable subject. But for the sake of kids everywhere, I really think this bill is a bad idea with PROFOUND lifelong consequences for our community.

Even with the caveat that a doctor could be the one performing the inspection, this could lead to devastating consequences for the kids. I wouldn’t want to play at all.

I watch this sub pretty closely and don’t remember anyone talking about the County Clerk & Recorder race, so I wanted to bring it up.

The Democratic nominee is Tracie Woods, running against incumbent Steve Schleiker. I tried to find out anything about her and came up basically empty.

• Her Ballotpedia page has no info about her or her race, and only has her LinkedIn which doesn’t mention it either.
• I looked her up on the Secretary of State’s campaign finance site (TRACER). The only filing is a candidate affidavit from 4/29/2026. There’s no registered campaign committee and no financial reports, so as far as public records show, she hasn’t raised or spent anything.
• I couldn’t find a campaign website, policy positions, or any statement about why she’s running.

The affidavit appears to have been filed online, and I couldn’t find anything explaining how identity is verified when that’s done.

Wild theories (I could be totally wrong)

1. Someone filed in her name as a prank or troll and she has no idea. Probably not, since there’s a sworn affidavit and the nomination process involves real people, but I can’t rule it out from public records.
2. Something happened to her and nobody updated the profiles.
3. My money’s on this one: with how much people dislike Republicans right now, someone figured a “D” next to the name is enough to win without campaigning.

Whatever the case, I ended up voting for the only candidate who has actually done the job and put out real policy positions. I’d rather make an informed choice than vote by party letter, and right now I can’t make one about Woods.

If anyone has met her, seen her at an event, or knows how she got on the ballot, please share. If her campaign sees this, now’s a good time to speak up.

The only other thing I would add is that I fully and personally verify insurance prior to hiring. Thanks for any advice!

There was a special meeting and resolution before Utilities Board that allows longer fiber leases. Google Fiber is currently presented about how they will be coming to the city.

Wanted to share for anyone interested in the new UFL team coming to Weidner Field spring 2027.

Priority seat selection went live today for anyone who paid a deposit ahead of time, but you'll also be able to buy season tickets at the launch event on Sunday. Should also be able to buy them online afterwards.

The UFL is just a 10-game season, so these prices are for five home games.

Edit: To be clear, they'll have individual game day tickets closer to the season, too.

Look, the reality is I’m tired of both sides. But at this point if you’ve been paying attention (and not falling for what your MAGA uncle posts to Facebook as fact), you know that “both sides” are not trying to actively pull our country into a Christian Nationalist takeover.

I attended (and was greatly anticipating) the Ballots and Brews event that happened at Cerberus Brewing last week. I was surprised at the turnout and even more surprised learning about some of these ballot measures.

I’m in Federal contracting and for some reason, I love reading the fine print and commonly missed details. After the event last week, I made it a goal of mine to understand the ballot measures from top to bottom.

Is this more of the same "poisoned candy" urban legend that has never actually happened? And now it's "rainbow fentanyl"? It's sad to see our police spread this kind of fear mongering.

Of course take precautions with anything your kids are eating, but this is kind of nutty.

Crank now states that decisions on data center construction should remain at the local level, rather than being dictated by the federal government, and has says that local entities are the appropriate bodies to manage local data center placement and regulations—BUT when it has been time to vote, he clearly has other priorities.

He changes tunes when he’s voting in DC from when he’s campaigning here at home…

On my way to work tonight I had to reroute to Meadowland just to cross Academy to get back to Austin Bluffs. I'm not sure how far south Academy was closed but does anyone know why? Very heavy police presence and my coworker said he saw a bunch of emergency vehicles pass around 11pm. Give me the tea 🍵 😌

Husband and I worked out today and he usually wears those silicone rings, but today we were both distracted and he forgot his. This has happened before and he is able to slip it onto his key lanyard and has never had it fall off before(before you comment that he was irresponsible, I’m telling you, it’s NEVER fallen off the thick lanyard before and also he feels terrible enough so no mean comments please). We got home, he worked in the garage for a bit, showered and then realized the ring was gone. We’ve searched everywhere, all over the whole car, garage, yard, our room, laundry, etc…no sign, we called VASA and then even drove over just to check for ourselves and nothing. He was mostly by the squat racks and assisted pull up machine. Then we scoured the parking lot because maybe when he pulled the keys out to unlock the car it slipped off?? Now we’ve checked everything at the house again. And Again. No sign.

This ring isn’t inherently super valuable, it’s really just the sentimental value because his grandpa wore it, then his dad, now him. It’s two toned(gold and silver), with a couple different dates inscribed on the inside. (Intentionally being a little vague about the specifics)

At this point it’s been hours and hours of searching and we’re just not sure what else to do.
Hoping it’ll turn up somewhere silly because we really don’t want to think that someone has just taken it and that it would be lost forever.

TLDR: Looking for two toned wedding band that has a few dates inscribed on the inside. Very sentimental, maybe dropped in the Union VASA parking lot?
