Does cold weather cause the gas engine on a hybrid to start right away?

• Upvotes

I have a 2024 Corolla XLE Hybrid I purchased in June with 43,600 miles. Just had it's first 5,000 mile oil change last week. We had our first cold snap here in central Texas a few days ago, and the past two mornings when I have gone out and gotten in the car, the gas engine has started up as soon as I started backing out of the driveway, even though the traction motor is all that is used for reverse. The temperature has been upper 40s both mornings. Is the gas engine starting up due to needing to warm up in the cold weather? Or is something else going on?

12th Gen (18-present) 2026 LE Transmission Issue

• Upvotes

2026 LE non hybrid with 16,300 miles. For about a week I have heard what to me has sounded like a wheel bearing going bad on the drivers front wheel. I took the car in to get looked at today and I just got a call back of them saying that they have determined the noise is coming from the transmission and that they want me to come pick it up while they get authorization from Toyota for a replacement transmission. I am shocked as this is my first Toyota and I bought it based on reliability. I have always been afraid of CVTs and had researched Toyota’s and felt comfortable about the first gear being there to increase longevity. Did I just get a dud or have there been others with a similar issue. Thank you!

09 will crank won't start

09 Corolla with the 1.8

Check engine light cam on, right before it died in my driveway.

Cylinder 4 miss fire, cool replace ignition coils and spark plugs.

Will crank, won't start, ok new crank position sensor, will crank but won't start

Ok new 5 prong relay under dash, will crank but won't start

Before I jump in and change the fuel pump what am I overlooking?

I don't have a multimeter to test anything.

11th Gen (13-Present) universal 12V Car Auto Lights – Corolla 2013 installation

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla (probably made in Europe). The head lights don’t go on automatically when it’s dark. I bought this to try and solve this problem.
I used a DMM to check the wires coming out of the steering wheel stalk. Two of them went low to 0V when I switched the lights on. I concluded that I should follow the negative wiring diagram that came with the unit.
I’m just not sure where to connect what.
Does anyone have any experience with this unit? Does anyone know if it’s even possible to use this unit on a Corolla?
I hope I’ve provided enough information about my car/ the control unit.
Thank you

10th Gen (09-13) 2011 Corolla LE, Vibration Question

2011 Corolla LE with 150k miles, recently purchased used. Im unsure if this was happening during my test drive, because I did not recognize it at the time, or as ive put maybe 300 miles on it since I've purchased it, this has started. The car was sitting for some time from the previous owner because they were gifted a different car.

The issue: I notice a cyclical vibration while the car is idling, in park, and most pronounced at 1100 rpm. The vibration seems like is pulsing for 1 second on, half second off, 1 second on again, roughly. Over 1200 rpm, its un-noticable and under 1000 rpm, also mostly goes away. The rpm tach is not bouncing at all during the vibration and the motor itself sounds smooth. Looking under the hood, I can clearly see the motor/trans vibrating to reflect what i feel in the cabin.

Could this be a motor mount issue or something else?

Side note: I noticed a small trans fluid leak going from hoses/tubing from the trans to the radiator on the metal bracket/tube assembly from a bit of corrosion and am not driving the car until I address that. Because of this leak, the transmission fluid on the dipstick is maybe 0.5 qts low. Once i get the trans fluid cooler lines fixed, i will be doing a drain and fill on the transmission fluid and getting it back to the proper level. Im not sure if slightly low fluid in the torque converter could be causing this as well? The transmission itself is still very smooth and shifts fine without and clunking or shifting delays.

I have a 9th gen 2007 corolla, and when I leave it parked in the sun the chime works till I turn the car off or park in the shade. How can I fix it?
I was thinking of getting another gauge cluster since I think they have the chime sound inside of them, but the mileage will change probably

2019 Toyota Corolla 2.0 Hybrid losing coolant – no visible leak. Anyone had this problem?

Hi everyone!

I have a 2019 Toyota Corolla 2.0 Hybrid that has been losing coolant (antifreeze). At first, it was only a small amount, but the problem has gradually gotten worse. Now I have to top up the coolant at least once a week.

There are no visible puddles under the car, and I can't figure out where the coolant is going. I've already taken it to a workshop, but they couldn't find the source of the leak either.

I've also noticed white smoke or steam coming from the exhaust at startup. I'm not sure if it's just normal condensation or something more serious.

Someone I know had a similar problem with their Corolla, and eventually the engine stopped working completely. That has made me a bit worried.

Has anyone experienced something similar with a 2019 Corolla Hybrid? Could it be the water pump, the EGR cooler, the head gasket, or something else?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice on what I should ask the workshop to check next.

Thanks in advance!

Bought 2023 Corolla Le. First car.

Hi everyone

I bought my first car from dealership and to be honest I didn’t do much research on features , all I really knew abt Toyotas were they are reliable since most of my family drove corollas.

Can someone please walk me through the safety features in layman’s terms please ? I tired reading the manual and became overwhelmed. I didn’t have much help from anyone when I bought the car and now that I bought the car so many ppl want to “ help.

Btw it had 50,000 miles on it . Celeste color.

I’m also 5’2 but noticed even with a booster seat I find myself reaching up to sit higher.

Lane assist and brake assist ? Are those helpful or dangerous etc ?

Many thanks

12th Gen (18-present) Am I putting too many miles on my car?

So I own a 2022 Toyota Corolla. I love it. However, I live in a small town that requires me to commute to work. 30 miles back and forth so 60 miles per day about 3-4 days a week. I bought the car in November of 2021 brand new 0 miles on it and it’s about to be paid off. I put about 12k down right when I bought it so half of the loan was paid off immediately. I’m pretty sure my car will be paid off by the end of this year. Anyways it has 70k miles on it. The only expensive repairs I’ve had to do was a spark plug at 60k miles back in January. Also tires obviously.

Is 70k after about 4 1/2 to 5 years of owning it standard? I’m thinking about trading it in it not right now but maybe in a few years.

Ok it might be too big but had the opportunity to buy a 14in Tab S10 Ultra for an incredible price from a friend and I've always wanted to do this. I just have to place the map on the right side of the tablet so the steering wheel dont cover it a little while from driver sit

Im so happy and I absolutely love how it looks and I can transfer it to a new car if need be

I have an adapter thats splits to usb C and 3.5mm jack and one cable gives power and the other to audio of the car

If I need to change the AC I just lean the tablet back so I can adjust with manually under the tablet or just remove it. And volume on the steering wheel 😂

Lets see if its a good idea long term

12th Gen (18-present) Which Corolla?

2014 vs 2020

Which Toyota Corolla is the better buy?

I'm deciding between two used Toyota Corollas and would appreciate some advice on which one is the better purchase for long-term reliability.

Option 1: 2014 Toyota Corolla LE

84,021 miles

Push-button start and sunroof

One owner

No accidents or damage reported on CARFAX

Dealer asking $15,000 out the door

Option 2: 2020 Toyota Corolla LE

96,891 miles

Push-button start and sunroof

Minor damage reported on CARFAX, which CARFAX says is typically cosmetic

First owner used it as a personal vehicle, averaging 10,603 miles per year, and maintained it regularly until trading it in at 56,830 miles

Second owner purchased it in late February 2025

The only service listed under the second owner was an oil change in January 2026 at 83,513 miles

The dealership recently changed the oil before putting it up for sale

$15,800 out the door

Neither vehicle has a transmission fluid change documented in its service history.

The 2020 is six years newer, but it has higher mileage, reported minor damage, and less documented maintenance under the second owner. The 2014 has lower mileage, a clean CARFAX, and a lower price.

Which would you choose for a reliable daily commuter? Is the 2020 worth paying an additional $800 for despite the damage and limited recent service records, or would you go with the older, lower-mileage 2014? Would the lack of documented transmission fluid changes concern you with either vehicle? I'd appreciate any advice or experiences with these model years. Thanks!

Strange freezing cold water near pedal (2022 Corolla LE)

I just got home from a 50 minute drive roughly and had the hot ac on blast with the windows down.

I took off my crocs’ and felt something really cold near my foot, near the gas pedal.

Got home and noticed this puddle?? And a missing clip. I have intentionally not touched or modified this car so I have no clue with what it could be?

Any suggestions helps. Thanks guys.

11th Gen (13-18) Random blinker like sound coming from somewhere on the driver side below wheel

For the life of me I don't nkow what this sound is. It's sounds very similar to the sound you hear when you use the blinker.

except this one is random, and has no pattern of when it goes on or off. this is a salvage 2016 corolla l.

anyone experience this?

New driver in Ontario CA — is FWD with winter tires enough, or should I pay more for AWD?

buying my first car. Choosing between a FWD Corolla and a Corolla AWD (~$4k more).

For those driving FWD with good winter tires through Ontario winters — is it genuinely fine, or do you wish you had AWD? Mostly city driving, no rural roads.

I need help

So my exterior door handle broke as well as the assembly. In fixing it I have to take out the door handle actuator or something I’m not really sure what it’s called but it makes the door open and lock and all that fun stuff. I put the actuator back on and now my passenger door won’t open and the doors closed and I can’t find anything on how I’m supposed to get it open online.

I’ve tried using the interior door handle which is (was) working and it’s not working anymore idk what to do I just wanted to fix my door handle

10th Gen (09-13) Sound Diagnosis

Hi all—my car sounds like this when I try to start it and I’m wondering if anyone recognizes the sound. I know I’m low on gas but I’m fairly certain I’m not out completely. I live in the city so I don’t drive often and it’s been maybe a week and a half since I drove but I def wasn’t completely on empty. That being said I hope it is that because that’s an easy fix!

2011 LE, Transmission Fluid

Whats the general concensus in this group? I've seen mixed opinions on replacing transmission fluid. I just bought this 2011 Corolla LE with 150k miles. Clean car, especially in regards to rust and wisconsin winters, but I just noticed the transmission fluid was a bit low, maybe 0.5 qts in relation to the dipstick, the notches, and what google AI told me notches represent as far as fill level.

There is a small ATF fluid leak at the metal tube/bracket that mounts on the radiator, heavily corroded, which takes the transmission fluid to the radiator. Im not driving it currently as i wait for that bracket/tube assembly and will replace it.

I will be at least topping it off with new Aisin WS fluid, but also want to do a drain and fill. Is a drain and fill recommended? This would leave about 1/2 to 2/3 of original fluid inside and not totally shock the system.

Anything I should keep an eye out for on a 2009 Corolla Base Manual w/ 200k miles?

Buying from original owner that has a very clean CarFax with 86 maintenance records and most completed at a Toyota dealership. Had a tune up at 130k miles and transmission fluid change at 178k. Looking to purchase at around $3.5k. Anything to check specifically or anything to expect soon? Just buying a cheap commuter to hold over the next 2 years or so.
