Vent Trainer triggered and humiliated me in gym

I’ve joined a gym in the beginning of September. At the end of the month said trainer and a few of the girls organised a trip to a resort nearby and I was invited. It was a potluck sort of a situation so everyone was expected to bring something. I don’t know how to cook, but I do know how to bake, so I ended up bringing banana bread. Everyone liked it, and I gave whatever was left to my trainer.

After that I ended up not going for two weeks because I was traveling and had work. After I came back last week, the trainer ended up pointing out that I need to work out more because I’m looking fatter. While I was doing a set she ended up yelling ā€œyess burn off all that cake you keep eating. You spend more time stuffing your face and baking instead of working outā€. The only other two people in the gym were two older women, and the trainer proceeded to talk about my weight and body, how Ive not had any progress to one of them. This was such a triggering and insulting thing to hear especially in front of others my hands starting shaking mid step and I took a break. I never mentioned that I have BED and now im not sure if my trainer will even understand me.

Advice Needed alternatives to chewing gum

• Upvotes

hi everyone ^^ my binging has gotten kinda out of hand & i’ve gained 15kg in 8 months :( i’ve realised my binging is mostly tied to sensory seeking (needing to chew / have smth in my mouth) so i thought of trying chewing gum as a form of harm reduction & to curb binges but unfortunately i live in a country where chewing gum isn’t sold (iykyk…)

does anyone have any suggestions what alternatives i can try? thank you!

Advice Needed Alternative methods?

• Upvotes

I have realized about myself that the reason I binge isn't because I find pleasure in food. What my brain actually craves is the total loss of control I feel when I binge eat. Does anyone know any alternatives (they can be really weird or out there things, I'm open to anything at this point) that would give my brain the same loss of control feeling? Does anyone else experience this kind of binge trigger?

Question for BED sufferers

I've suffered from two restrictive EDs for 32 of my 44 yrs & am curious if BED sufferers have ever wished they had the opposite disorder? I've recently started attending an ED group & the amount of BED sufferers who say they'd "rather be anorexic" is shocking.

Just wondering if this is common or if I'm just meeting a lot of ppl who are rare?

Binge/Relapse What the hell is it about cereal specifically?

I was doing pretty good today eating mindfully. The entire day I’ve been craving cereal so I decided to let myself enjoy some. Intuitive eating yada yada. I added sliced banana to make it heartier and more filling, expecting to feel full after 2 bowls. I ended up eating 5.

Genuinely every time I give myself a chance to be normal about cereal I do this shit. It’s never worth it. I’m always left feeling stuffed, ashamed, and with that disgusting lingering cloying sweetness in my mouth that happens every time I overeat sweets.

Mind you we have a tray of rice cripsy treats and a big Halloween bag of Reese cups in the house, and fucking CEREAL is what made me binge.

Cereal doesn’t even taste good anymore after the first couple bowls but I still sometimes keep eating bowl after bowl even when my stomach is PAINFULLY full.

My eating disorders didn’t start taking over my life until this year but cereal is something I’ve always binged at any given opportunity. I’m a firm believer of letting yourself enjoy anything you want in moderation, but cereal just doesn’t seem to work with that. It’s inescapable since my grandma always keeps it in the house. I hate cereal. FUCK CEREAL.
Edit: and unsurprisingly, seconds after posting this I’m already thinking about finishing off the last portion left in the bag. The hold cereal has on me feels violent.

Vent Tough times with this eating disorder.

I genuinely don’t know what I keep doing wrong. I’m tracking my progress, not restricting food, eating adequate meals, delaying my urges. I feel like no matter what I do I just take 10 steps back. For years it’s just this constant battle. I feel like everyday is a new test. I couldn’t spend one day without thinking about food and thinking about binge eating.
I’ve reached out to creators that have recovered from binge eating and they haven’t responded. It’s destroying my life. My relationships with the people around me. I’m literally always going through some sort of crisis and my bf has to deal with it almost everyday. And it’s caused by this eating disorder.
I just want to be happy and I don’t expect myself to be perfect but I’ll delay my urges and still end up binging. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what is wrong with me. Whenever I get the urge all sorts of reasons leave my mind. I’m genuinely so done you guys. I don’t know what to do. Why I can’t just stop.

Day 2 check in

• Upvotes

Weekends are hard. The way i justify over eating in weekends especially if i have to work is that 'i deserve a treat' then eat about 2000 calories of chips and ice cream. But i "deserve it".

Working on recentering my 'reward' mindset away from food. I DO deserve a break. But a break =/= food.

Progress 2 days binge free!

This might sound like a small victory but to me this has been a very big accomplishment.

I have been struggling with BED for roughly 3+ years since I started nursing school. I’ve since graduated and have been working- but old habits stick around (to put it lightly).

During my time in nursing school and having ADHD (completely unmedicated), food was a big source of my happiness. It also brought me so much comfort. I resorted to eating my comfort foods which primarily consists of processed foods or fast food and since then I have developed a really bad habit and relationship with food- with that came a lot of weight gain.

I didn’t think my BED was a problem until I started to lose myself in it. I didn’t even mind the weight gain until I figured out i’d have to buy a completely new wardrobe to accommodate my current size. But most importantly, I started to make it everyone else’s problem.

I started with pointing out my own insecurities to others who weren’t even close to me, making jokes and jags at the expense of my appearance and comparing it to others, and I started to just fucking annoy myself because I’d catch myself saying these things, and a part of me really didn’t like it or even want to say it at all. The compulsion to just blurt what I thought was far stronger than to just withhold myself from saying things and painting a picture of myself I’d regret.

I have geared myself to stop my habits for probably 2 years now. Everyday I was hitting myself with ā€œahhh I’ll start next weekā€, or ā€œahh, who cares I have a loving boyfriendā€, or ā€œI still have timeā€. One week turned into a month, then turned into 3, turned into 8, then ultimately into 2+ years. Time just flew by, and my habits were getting worse.

I would feel genuinely possessed creeping into my fridge. I wasn’t even hungry but I ate because nothing else was satiating enough for me and my cravings were loud. I truly couldn’t and fear that I still can’t stop myself from falling into a loop again.

I truly believe there were a few things that contributed to me wanting to genuinely recover.

  1. My doctor prescribed me a GLP-1, but the cost of it is so high. Additionally, I really wanted to get myself in the right headspace if I was going to commit to using a medication that costs about a fraction of my paycheque. I know it has done miracles for those struggling with BED, however I was just scared to be honest. Not even the needles or the actual injection, but the fact I would fail even while on a GLP-1. Or lose track of myself again if I were to stop it. I also struggle with chronic and debilitating migraines, anxiety and menstrual issues. I didn’t want to add anything else that could’ve excaberated my existing condition

s

  1. I finally logged my BE into the sobriety app. Weirdly enough something about it actually really helped me when I quit vaping. Idk if it’s the countdown, the feeling it gives me to be more conscious, the accountabilit

y. I hope this had the same effect with my BED.

  1. Cooking. I fucking hate cooking but what helped me was finding recipes that I could whip up in like 30-45mins. I think when I started cooking meals I considered a safe food, it just put into perspective that it’s not hard to make tasty dishes.

Point 3 is something I would have hated to hear. One of the reason why my comfort foods were comforting was the fact I didn’t have to actually bust my ass to make it. And of course even with that, a homemade burger won’t taste the same as a Big Mac. And if I want a fucking Big Mac, I got myself a Big Mac.

It took me 2+ years to get myself into this headspace. I’m not doing it to lose weight, I just don’t want to lay around and have heart burn because I had my last meal at 11pm which consisted of absolutely everything and anything. From a slice of cheese to a pack of cookies. My stomach was genuinely furious with me because I’m not eating enough nutrients. My sleep was all sorts of fucked, and my overall wellbeing just wasn’t good.

I’m only 2 days in, I’m not saying any of this is a success story- hell. I might break. But I am proud of myself and hope I can recover. Nobody knows how much of a struggle this is until you experience it. I have a lot more feelings and emotions towards this topic, but I don’t want this post to be too long. I wish everyone recovery with BED. I hope nobody ever feels alone in this.

TW: Weight loss mentioned I walked 40k steps but ate 3000cals for the day 😭 - My experience on Vyvanse - Recovering from RED-S - Trying to reach WL goal by Valentine’s Day

I’ve been two weeks deep into a binge due to depression and health issues that’s been impacting me.

I’m 5’5 and dropped down to 128 this June, walking 20+ steps and eating about 1400-1800 on average a day depending on how much I binged that week.

Well, binging has gotten worse on and off since then, only gotten 1 period this year, adrenal system is shot and my body’s not producing enough cortisol and my hormones are out of whack. At first I lost tons of hair, always cold, insomnia and then depression and psychosis along with body pains.

Couldn’t exercise as much, constantly hungry, was prescribed Prozac and Vyvanse which did help for about two weeks before worsening my anxiety and giving me a racing heart. Depression worsened too.

Fast forward to October, im currently between 145-150lbs. I developed RED-S so had to take a medical leave from work and it was very rough.

Constantly crying, depressed, can’t get over how big I got so soon, and feeling such despair.

Thank God for my Family’s support.

My goal is to eat 1800 calories a day prioritizing protein, fiber, FATS, and electrolytes. Walking 15-25k steps a day to get me back to the 120s by Valentine’s Day

Today after two previous failed attempts, I failed again but made sure to still track what I ate today (3000cals 350g protein 45g fiber 80g fats and 200g carbs) and burned 1000 calories through exercise walking 6+ hours.

Will continue to update everyone <3

I'm so tired and I just hate that I do this.

I feel like my whole life has been addiction. I have AUD and i've been in and out of rehabs for that. Then I get sober and I start binging... and you know and dietetics! and then i can't handle it and i go back to drinking... and when I drink, I don't binge! Wow.

And it's just been this over and over and I really want to face it or overcome it! I really do.

Strategies to Try Strategies for replacing snacking and eating with another behaviour when stressed?

TL;DR, I've just realized my eating to cope with stress is a problem, and I'd be so grateful to hear what works for people to find alternative coping strategies (e.g., drinking tea instead of eating??)

Hi everyone! This feels like a vulnerable post, as I've never admitted that I have an issue with binge eating. I'm fairly active, so I generally burn enough calories in a day that it hasn't become an obvious issue until recently when I realized I cope with my anxiety by going into a freeze state and snacking/binge eating.

If anyone here has found or knows of strategies to deal with this, I'd be so grateful to hear more about them.

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Binge/Relapse I just ate a whole pizza

Straight up just ate a whole large pizza without even batting an eye. Wtf is wrong with me? I was eating normally and healthily for months. MONTHS. I lost ten pounds and weighed less than I had in a whole year. Then a bipolar episode hits and I’m back to bingeing. All that progress — gone! Gained all the weight back in just over two weeks. Now I can’t stop. I swear to god, I’m just gonna quit trying. This is fucking ridiculous.

Discussion 8 things that helped me

Some advice I got from a therapist

  1. Disturb the routine. Most bingers do in the evenings. Find something to fill that time with instead. For me, I've become a lot more sociable. I'm into writing so I've been attending writing events, doing my own writing on the evenings I don't have plans, or I'm in the gym. I used to always buy junk food on the walk home from the train station after commuting home from work, so I walked a different route home. Disturbing the routine helps a lot, replace that time with something new, don't just leave a void and expect to not go back to what you know.

  2. You can have it later. I tell myself this all the time. The shop with my favourite food in will be there tomorrow, I can have it then if I still really want it. 99.9% of the time I don't.

  3. Don't keep junk food in your home. Admittedly, harder to do if you live with your family or a partner. If I buy junk food I will eat all of it on the same day. Just don't buy it.

  4. Prioritise rest and sleep. The times in my life I've binged the most was when I was burned out and exhausted. Just by prioritising sleep and rest, this changed things massively.

  5. Eat early in the day. I used to not eat until 2pm, have a small lunch, and then surprise surprise I'd binge in the evening. I now always eat breakfast and make sure my lunch is high in protein.

  6. Hydrate. It's true that thirst can be confused for hunger. Drinking lots of water will help.

  7. Not the healthiest advice but sometimes if I'm having a bad sweet craving, a diet coke/lemonade with lots of ice can hit the spot. I know soda is bad but it's better than 3000 calories. Hot drinks and herbal teas can help too.

  8. You're sick of hearing about protein but fibre does wonders. Once i started making a conscious effort to eat fruit and veg daily, the cravings became so much better. IMO this is better than slamming back protein bars and shakes non stop.

Kindly share what has helped you. I'm by no means fully recovered and still have bad days, but I'm getting there.

Discussion I was so close to binging

I was at school today, and got hungry after lunch so I had a beef stick as a snack (I usually don’t snack to avoid binging sonce it’s a trigger, but I decided I shouldn’t restrict myself either cause that would make it worse in the long run) Well, it caused an enormous binge urge to come over me, and I ended up basically starting a binge (2 beefsticks, 2 oreos, and the rest of a bag of drizzilicious, abt 400 kcal total)

The only reason I didn’t continue is because I didn’t have any more snacks in my locker, and my friends didn’t have any either. My urges were horrible and I was panicking because I wanted to binge so bad but had nothing to binge on. Luckily I had a club after school that made me stay at school for two extra hours, during which the urge gradually subsided and now I’m back home, and I’m fine now. I’m so glad I didn’t end up binging.

I’m gonna eat the noodles my mom makes for dinner tonight like usual (another reason I’m glad I didn’t binge, so I can enjoy my mom’s dinner without guilt or uncomfortable fullness), and continue with my usual eating.

TLDR; Day 2 today was a close call, but I avoided it! My goal is to make it to Halloween without binging (14 days) so I can dress up with full confidence and enjoy the day fully without having to feel guilty about a recent binge. My longest streak was 14 days, and it was about two weeks ago, so I’m going to believe in my ability to extend it again.

If this kind of situation happens again, I would appreciate any strategies to not binge in the comments <3

Body Image It's time to admit I need to upsize

I am struggling with BED, and have put on a lot of weight since I was a teenager. I think something that's holding me back is that my clothes don't fit because I keep clinging onto the hope I'll slim back into them, which makes me feel terrible. I've been doing this for maybe 2 years now. It sucks. I am going to upsize my clothes to hopefully make myself feel more comfortable in the meantime. I think I am ready.

Vent The thing that sucks the most about BED is being responsible for every calorie you've ever consumed.

This probably doesn't apply to the thin bingers, but for me the worst thing about BED is that you never get a day without the responsibility of every calorie you consume counting. Your current body is the result of every calorie you've ever eaten. Every single one, ever. There are no holidays where calories stop counting. There are no sick days where calories stop counting. There's no pill you can take once a month where your body stops digesting calories and you get some kind of a break. Every single one counts everyday forever.

This is radically different from nearly every other facet of life. Screw up at work? You could get away with it and nobody will notice. Just don't do it a bunch of times. No harm, no foul. Speeding or comitting a crime? Don't get caught and it's like it never happened. Racked up some debt (this is the closes analogue to binging for me)? Sometimes companies will work with you to relieve some of that debt. Alcoholic that relapses? You'll be okay if you can survive that day and get back on track the next.

But calories? Every single one counts. Forever. You never get a day where they don't affect you. It's like damn man, can I get one single day off?

Quitting alcohol cured my binge eating

Just as the title says I 29f quit binge eating after I became sober from alcohol! I have been 27 days sober and haven’t had a binge episode once. I went from drinking every day and binge eating almost every day to no longer even having cravings. I’ve been drinking almost daily my whole adult life and by quitting eating healthily and normal portions is easier and has become so normal! It’s very early still as it’s been a month but I truly believe by continuing my sobriety that I will be able to cure my binge eating disorder for good. Just wanted to share 1 thing that’s been super successful for me I hope the same for others!!!
