Recommendations Looking for services that handle estate sales for downsizing my elderly parent

My father just passed away after a health crisis and my mother is going to need to downsize fairly quickly. They aren't quite hoarders, but they definitely accumulated a LOT of things and moved many boxes from home to home in the last 40 years, without opening them or doing any purging. This includes tools, furniture, dishware, rugs (not fancy), and so much more... including straight up trash (like things from when I was in elementary school and empty dvd cases).

While it would be incredibly helpful to get the best dollar for selling the things which are valuable, it will almost be more important to have them out of the house so that it can be prepped for sale. Recycling for things which cannot be sold would be a huge plus. Are there any local services who you recommend that can facilitate this kind of process with such a variety of items? I work full time and so can help, but this seems like it will be a full time job on it's own.

Side note: I don't have FB and marketplace isn't an option. I also don't really want my mom to have to meet people solo or have further stress while navigating this loss.

Thank you for recommendations.

Pets Reminder that dogs need to be leashed.

Today I was in my front yard and a woman with an unleashed German Shepherd was walking through my cul-de-sac. I saw the dog aggressively enter multiple yards and run through flower beds as if on the hunt. The woman made zero attempt to control or call back her dog and when I reminded her that the dog was legally required to be on a leash, she had a very entitled attitude about it. The truth is that it doesn’t matter how well trained a dog is (this one absolutely wasn’t) the law requires that it must be leashed on streets and in parks unless it’s is a designated off-leash area. Please be responsible dog owners and follow the law for the safety of your dog and others.

There are two fundraisers coming up in the next week for people in Gaza.

10/24 bake sale near the farmers market
10/29 bingo, raffle, and art market at Goat Mountain Pizza

Both are affiliated with Whatcom Coalition for Palestine. Both events will have information about the people receiving the funds.

Please come out, enjoy some goodies, and be in solidarity with our siblings in Palestine.

AND also on Saturday 10/24 we are hosting an educational discussion about AI and its impacts globally, including its use in war abroad and surveillance locally. Registration required. https://cryptpad.fr/form/#/2/form/view/R0ScQ5+6s5ZZh-qI+XPR+iqJoF32J7cPSKXDYd9Y2Lo/

Arts and music Can anyone identify the Artist

Post image

Thrifted a very classy fantasy/horror piece (possibly original or a print) and was curious if its perhaps by a local artist. Signed "Smoore", if anybody knows if theres any info or social media on them. I really love it.

Edit: It's a different art style than Stephen Moore or S.moore so im not convinced its him or similar names that have come up via search.

Discussion How we feeling about PogoZone?

• Upvotes

I'd like to cut the cord with the X-monster, so I'm looking into options. My largest data needs are streaming movies and downloading albums, so I don't need anything too high powered...

Do people experience service interruptions, and are folks happy with the routers they supply? What else should I know about being their customer?

Traffic Lakeway Drive Apologies

To the person I came nose to nose with in the turn lane trying to exit my place of work. You in the red car, me in the blue car. I'm sorry that I pulled out right in front of you and then panicked and got annoyed. Every day is a pain trying to get out of that driveway but that does not excuse being in a hurry. I probably looked insane from your point of view. Not my best moment.

Recommendations Bike Fit and Custom Frame Bag Recs

Hey All,

I'm looking for a local business who makes custom frame bags for bikes. Anyone know who I can come to for this? I know lots of online businesses do this, but I figure there might be a local person to support.

I'm also looking for a bike fit for my drop bar gravel bike. This I know a few businesses exist, just curious what people's experiences have been, and who's recommended.

give/receive School fundraiser auction

Just want to say I'm really impressed with the Blaine Schools Foundation (https://blaineschoolsfoundation.org/) online auction they have. My family and I have moved around a lot and I'm really happy to see all the local companies and individuals that have donated to the online auction to raise funds for specific school projects and events. The auction site is here: https://app.galabid.com/bpsf-impact-online/items.

You hear a lot of negative stuff about school districts and community support, and I'm just happy to see the exact opposite in Blaine. There is a supportive community, transparency from district leadership and an involved school board.

Good Vibes 85-100lb Big Max pumpkin?

I’m looking for a giant pumpkin in the area. Preferably a red Big Max pumpkin. Fred Meyer used to have them but I have not been able to find them this year. Anyone know where one is? I’ve asked a lot of farms but the best one had was a 200lb Atlantic giant which is a bit too big.

Moving Here Boxes for Moving

• Upvotes

We are making a short 1/2 mile move after 7 years in Bellingham but will still need a lot of boxes! We have bought some U-Haul ones but would also like to get some of the apple / liquor / or other solid boxes that you can often get a lot of in the same size. What grocery / liquor stores would be a good source and what times would you be most likely be able to get them?

I got the crunchy ground beef tacos to satiate a certain craving; tacos were hot and crunchy, the rice and beans were the best I've had in trying the places in town the last 8 years. The lard was real! Horchata was on point. No doubt we'll be back, for sure my new fave rice and beans spot.

In some other parts of the country, this costs more than a new house, about $400,000. Anyway, I figured others who are into cars would like seeing this.

Good Vibes theater anti-rant

a lot of people rant about stuff on here and i’ve even seen some disgruntled posts/comments about antisocial behavior and theater etiquette. so i just wanted to say that i went to see “you can see everything” at the regal theater last night and other than a couple of very discrete time checks, nobody was on their phone and people were so courteous in a completely packed theater. i had a really good time being amongst the community. 🫶

if this post is too low effort, i get it. just wanted to brag these folks up because there can be a lot of often justified grievance on here.

(also the film was amazing lol)

Recommendations Dog Groomer Recommendations

I have a long haired 100lb shepherd that has some out-of-control butt fluff and he is blowing his coat. Typically I have taken care of all of his upkeep but even with daily maintenance I am struggling to get on top of it. With that being said, I’m looking to get him seen professionally. He is sensitive and I’m looking for a positive experience for him.
Thanks in advance
