Build Thread BMW Color Comb.

Hello everyone. I’m contemplating purchasing a new M240i with Frozen Deep Grey exterior with Cognac interior. Personally, I think it looks super clean. Curious to see if anyone else here has the same color combination. Any likes or dislikes? What’re your thoughts?

5-Series Sedan - New Tires Needed: Is V Speed Rating the OEM / Recommendation?

• Upvotes

Which speed rating of tire do I need?

I looked in my PDF Owner's Manual and there is no specification, and I looked on the labels of the driver's door jamb and nothing is there.

Buying Help THE ILLUSION OF FREE CHOICE

I need help deciding if getting a 2017 GT series 320D is worth it, it has 108000KM on the dash and it is in pristine condition. HOWEVER, I am surrounded by people who call them the most unreliable things ever, BMWs in general.
Will it break my back, and is it worth going from a Golf MK7 to one of them?
But please break my heart if needed, I have to know if I will have to KMS due to having a constant financial strain on my back.
Thank you!

Buying Help test drove the m340i and 330i and now i’m even more unsure which way to go

I was going back and forth between leasing a 340 and a 330. I couldn’t decide so I needed to test drive both to really help make a decision. Now that I have, it almost made it harder for me to choose.

I’m trying to justify the extra 10-12gs for the 340. They felt more similar than I thought and what everyone was telling me. I will say the part that has me the most stuck is I absolutely love the pops and crackles you get from the 340 and deep down I’ve always wanted a car that could do that. It was smoother and quicker overall.

I can afford both. Obviously it’s a lot cheaper to get the 330 and use sport mode and have that feeling of quickness + power, which it felt pretty damn good in sport+. I worked the numbers, roughly it would be 250-300$ more per month said n done to get the 340 over the 330. I am 26 years old using for a daily. Do I shell out the extra dollars for the M, need to sleep on it. Seeking some advice of anyone who is or was in my current position.

Buying Help What would you guys rather own BMW 330i/ci or 128i

Considering a fun RWD, manual, importantly “cheap” BMW as a summer car. I’m a hobbyist mechanic and don’t mind working on my own car. What would you guys pick? These are about the same price, performance, etc.

X3 m40i exhaust setup

Finally picked up a mic over the weekend and got to hear what my exhaust sounds like from the outside. Just wanted to share for those who might be interested in doing similar setups on their B58. Honestly sounds like a diesel truck at low rpms

catted downpipe
valved exhaust
burbles disabled with MHD
No XHP (still debating)

[OC] track or stance build

I already know your answer stock is the best way but for those who mod their cars, which do you like and why? I’d pick stance for the aesthetic and styling. Stanced cars are what got me into cars in the first place. Track builds have an aggressive look and are functional which is always nice.

So after talking to some you, the majority said it was better to keep the 330e over a 335i. I think it would be nice to do some mods maybe starting with wheels. I’d like to keep it OEM+. Any recomndations? Performance mods are welcome too.

FOXWELL NT510 Elite

I’m looking to buy an affordable but reliable scanner for my 2005 118i E87 N46.

I’m doing repairs myself and want to avoid buying a scanner that claims to support BMW service functions but cannot actually perform the specific adaptations I need on my engine.

The functions I need are:
Valvetronic adaptation/initialization/relearn
Resetting engine adaptations
Reading/clearing fault codes
Live data (not essential)

Questions:
Has anyone personally used this scanner on an N46 or an E87?

Can you confirm whether it has Valvetronic initialization/relearn function?

Can it reset engine adaptations and which adaptations can it reset?

Would you recommend other brands like TOPDON or even other methods?

Picked up this beautiful ‘13 135i M-Sport with the manual last month. Broke it in for a fun fall drive up north of Seattle on some scenic twisties this past weekend and had an absolute blast. Even came with a Dinan Stage 1 tune, really makes it take off. Couldn’t be happier with it.

Run-flat Tire Recommendations & Install w/ Road Force and Match Mount: 5-Series Sedan (Arizona - Daily Fwy Driver)

Tire Size: 225/55R17

Hi everyone,

I live in Arizona now and seeking recommendations for run-flat tires. Please drop me any recommendations/experiences below. I am also seeking recommendations for a place to have them installed. My car is in excellent condition, with no blemishes on the rims (has never hit a curb, and never parks near anyone, and no automatic car washes). I'm extremely sensitive to finding a place that handles the install with care to not scratch the rims. Would also prefer the road force and match mounting as well.

Over the years with this car I've had Pirellis (wore out fast I felt), and currently Michelin. I'm a little hesitant to try the Michelin again, because two tires developed long cracks on the interior sidewall, however they didn't blow, so they could be considered great with regards to them overall. I noticed the cracks last night and have now parked the vehicle until this gets handled. (To clarify, I'm not interested in having to go through a claims process to replace a rim.) I'm looking for recommendations for any place/location where you had superior service in Arizona (independent/corporate-owned (name of installer if you know, etc).

The note about a daily freeway driver is because I'm currently having to drive the 1-10 and 101 in the West Valley, which has a lot of construction going on, potholes, and big bear foot print divets all over it. I know where the spots are, so I avoid them, but it is a concern. For the tires and service, location does not have to be in the West Valley. I also have no issue if I need to buy the tires online and have them sent to installer.

I'm really open to all suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to read this and offering your insights!

Buying Help Is the 2018 B58 feel worth trading in my 2013 535xi (N55)?

I'm emotionally attached to my 535 but my eyes have been straying recently since I saw a listing for 2018 640xi GT at 48k miles. Now I'm considering a quick time jump forward from the early 2010s to the late 2010s. My current 2013 535xi is at 108k (bought at 60k) and spent my tenure with the car trying to cover up every single leak you could possibly have under the sun. I know maintaining either car will be a huge pain as is the destiny of owning them, and I'm not looking at financial advice. The spec sheets for the cars are just marginally different and I am a fan of the aesthetics for both (not of a fan of touch screen stuff, I love pushing buttons). Just looking for someone with more experience to share the kumbaya vibes on how the B58s felt driving and owning and what long road trips were like.

2018 BMW X5 xDrive35i

Hello all! I wanted some advice on a following purchase in the canadian market. Recently saw an ad for a 2018 BMW X5 xDrive35i M Sport Package with around 125K km (~ 80K miles) selling for like 22K CAD (~16K USD). Its pretty clean inside and outside (navy blue outside with white interior). I’m going to get it checked by a mechanic that specializes in German cars. Carfax is somewhat lackluster, only listing registration changes (seems to have had 3 owners so far). The shop selling it changed the brake pads and discs and did an oil change. What are some things to watch out for maintenance wise ?
If the mechanic oks it, is it a good deal ?
The shop is also selling an additional extended warranty that covers pretty much anything over 4 years / 80K km (50K miles)

Lmk if there’s anything else to know, I really love the build and vibe of this car and want something i can enjoy for a long time

[OC] Advice on what year BMW X3/X5 to target

Hello,

I am finally getting rid of my 2009 toyota rav4 and was looking at a preowned X3 or X5. My rav4 has served me quite well, the v6 and the cargo space have been the highlights but its time to let her go. The cargo space has been very helpful and would like to have a decent boot.

i was just wondering if anyone could give me recommendations on what generation X3 or X5, and maybe even trim i should be targeting. I am not going to be buying 2026 or 2027. I think somewhere in the 2018-2024 range is ideal, but I know there has been some redesigns and I thought I'd ask the sub. Thanks for all your help.

Buying Help Thinking of buying a 135i e82 N55

Hey guys I’m new here, I got two options currently

1] BMW 135i e82 N55(manual), I absolutely love that shape of the car and want to clone it to look like a 1m in the future. (What’s the reliably on these cars)

2] BMW 125i F21 2016, good car, but I don’t think anything beats the 135i e82

Buying Help M60i or just 40i

Post image

Need some advice on the X7. I heard good things and bad things about the car, and I wonder if there’s BMW enthusiasts or X7 owners can tell me more about it. Test drove both trims already, which I feel like 40i is plenty of powers, but I don’t know if M60i will be better choice given the engine.

Clean, almost new 2022 m240i. First timer here.

Hey all, ill welcome myself to the club with my new to me baby m lite.

Purchased- a 2022 bmw m240i with sub 20k on the dash, absolutely mint. Brooklyn Gray, black interior.

Warranty- from bmw, a 3 year / 40k extended "bumper to bumper" warranty. Bought tire and rim warranty aswell.

Insurance policy package-: went "middle of the road" as I will have it heated underground parking, not used for a daily in winter, but certainly going to keep it moving in the winter ( i live 2 blocks from work, I live in saskatchewan Canada. I can already tell this thing is too powerful for a daily in Canada's 10ft of snow.

I had it over the weekend. Man... what a damn car. Coming from a 2008 Mazda 3... life's been wild and this car is the embodiment of my last few years wrapped up into a small car with a big engine.

The car is at bmw getting new tires on it, and a detail. Hopefully i can grab it tomorrow. But in the meantime.

Whats my next move? This is my new 'hobby' and I want to be aware of what im doing right, wrong, etc.

Im asking people who have owned this car what they wish they did, what they did right, wrong.

Ppf- none.. I think i could throw some on the front.

Tune- not really interested at the moment, although its a fast car, im not taking it to tracks, im not racing children in between green lights (i do like the quad exhaust look compared to stock though.)

Comforts- I dont drive much, I ran into a dead car often in winter time because I walk to and from work so much, i do not want that happening here.

Cash- with all the warranties etc, I know this car will cost me a handful at some point. I put 100 a paycheque into a "fix the beamer" fund which has 2k in it currently. Is 200 a month good for cushion? Id want that 200 to cover oil changes, paint chips, basically keep the car mint on $200 a month. Or am I still thinking 2008 mazda (which cost me maybe 200 a year in maintenence other than oilchanges)

More into cash- bought the warranties straight up. Still have sub 800 a month in payments on the car, plus parking / gas brings me to about 1100 monthly on the car.

Noob bmw guy bought a noob bmw but still wants to treat it like a bmw because it is a bmw.

Thank you all!
