Title
Been a BMW fan since I was a young lad, parents drove BMWs (E36 323i, E39 528i, E91 320d) until I was away for uni. First car I ever drove was their E39 528i. Consider myself lucky to have grown up around these amazing machines.
Recently started using Reddit again on a new account. Homepage fed me a bunch of car stuff, including this subreddit. Always kept most of my car (auti|enthusia)sm within my irl and online groups of friends so I'm not really used to forum posting on the matter.
Why are the "discussions" here so negative and so superficial? Earlier today some bloke posted about ordering a new i3 M50, half the comments are snide remarks about getting the model name wrong (we get it, you are experts on model numbers), the other half are about how ugly it is and how shite the interior is (OP posted no pics of the interior btw). Barely any congratulating the guy on a brand new BMW, asking for the options, specs etc. It's fucking mental to me how this is possible in a subreddit about BMWs.
Lot of the specific-model subs are just as bad. On the X5 sub yesterday, someone asked whether to go with black or matte silver for their new G65 order. Top comments just telling OP how ugly the car is. Have to scroll through a bunch of unsolicited vitriol and smug opinions until any answers to a completely legitimate question actually show up.
What's going on? Whenever I see a BMW I feel happy because the driver shares something in common that they like with me. Doesn't matter if it rolled off the factory line 60 years or 60 minutes ago. how's it gonna be when G50/G65/etc. posts begin to pick up as people order and receive theirs? We just gonna be posting the same smug gifs and pictures, making the same complaints fishing for karma? Very different experience from talking to my mates about cars. We shit talk and banter around but always get excited when someone's garage gets something new. Why's it so negative here?
