What would you show a new Seattleite in the Fremont/Ballard area if you had a few hours?

Hi! Long story short I (male in 30’s) met a girl at a party this last weekend and found we have a lot in common (which is cool because my hobbies are niche). She just moved here, I got her number and we made plans for me to show her around this Friday evening. She’s expressed interest in seeing more of the Ballard/Fremont area (which is where I live).

I was wondering if any of you had suggestions of things to do and places to go in like a 4 hour time frame?

Recommendation Capital Hill vs North Beacon hill for 3 traveling nurses?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m a travel nurse who accepted a contract in Seattle along with two other friends from December 14 to March 14. Two of us will be working at UW Medical Center Montlake, and the other will be at Harborview Medical Center.
We’re currently stuck between two housing options and would love some advice from locals! We’re coming from the East Coast and most likely won’t be bringing any cars since shipping them would be pretty expensive.
Our two options are:
Capitol Hill: Near E Harrison St & Federal Ave E
North Beacon Hill: Near Hamlin Robinson School (20th Ave S)
The North Beacon Hill apartment is slightly bigger, for the three of us, but I’m a little worried about the commute and what’s around the apartments. It looks like there are bus and light rail options near both apartments.
For context, two of us will be working 12-hour night shifts (7 PM–7 AM), while the other will be working 12-hour day shifts (7 AM–7 PM).
We’re also hoping to be within walking distance of groceries, gyms, and restaurants since we won’t have cars. Or at least something manageable by bus/train, and I can have groceries delivered :)
Which area would you recommend for our situation?
Any advice from people familiar with these neighborhoods would be super appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi I have a question for the labor and delivery nurses in Seattle, I’m thinking about moving from a high risk OB labor unit in Iowa and want to see what is the best option to go for in Seattle, should I go for Swedish or UW Montlake? Which is the better hospital to work at? Thanks so much!

Question Searching for skeleton preservationist

Hi everyone, morbid topic and pet loss ahead.

I had to say goodbye to my heart cat this morning. I'd like his skeleton preserved (no need for articulation, but if you know someone that does both that would be cool!)

Unfortunately everywhere I'm looking is not accepting new clients and has their waitlists closed, or is charging a few thousand dollars.

Does anyone have any reccomendations or leads? I'm trying not to look more than an hour away as I dont want to drive him too far.

TIA.

Where to buy BIG banana leaves?

• Upvotes

Looking for banana leaves that are at least the size of a plate, but ideally bigger. Please only respond if you for sure have bought banana leaves at a specific store, or know someone who has, rather than suggesting places to check out. Ideally don't want to have to drive all over the area only to not find what I'm looking for. Thank you!!

Reliable Electrician - Hourly Rate reality check

I got a quote from an electrician company I've used in the past and their hourly rate for labor is $175. Is this a reasonable rate in the Seattle market these days?

Half Day for Sightseeing

If you were me, someone who has never been to Seattle, and only had a half-day to sightsee, (talking 4-5 hours tops compared to spending 8-10 hours in a place), what would you choose to do/see during your time there? Bringing a friend who also has never been, but who is like me and is open to exploring any and everything! Thanks:)

Moving / Visiting What’s it like living in the central district / Judkins park area?

Asking for some family members whom are looking at housing in the area. Any cool coffee shops, markets close by, activities and gyms to do and use? Also traffic and if there’s any issues with like homeless population, crime, auto theft, public transport. One person uses a car the other mostly relies on public transport and works up north in Edmonds…

Just want to collect info for them, thanks!

Hello fellow Seattleites. I'm looking for a bar giving prime TV presence to the WNBA finals. I know about the usual suspects ie. the women's sports bars. But those get packed. Does anyone know of any others? Appreciate it.

Question Driving assistance in North Seattle?

Hi.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a service in Seattle where someone will come drive your car for a bit, or a service where you can hire a qualified driver(licenced 5+ yrs) or instructor to sit in the passenger seat while you drive? The issue I'm having is that the driving schools all seem to require use of their car, but I need someone to drive my car, just to even maintain it. I have a valid permit & have taken some lessons. I would like to be the one to drive it, ideally, since I need the practice anyway, but if not I'll take what I can.

And to filter out some questions: no I don't have friends or family that can drive or help me. They either 1) don't drive themselves 2) live too far away or 3) haven't driven in a long time, and haven't driven a hybrid before/don't seem willing to commit to actually having to do it semi-frequently.

If anyone could let me know how to go about even searching for this (google has been confusing, and the services I have found require you to have a driver for at least 2hrs, which to me is wildly unnecessary/expensive) I would really, really appreciate it.

Thanks!

ETA: I'm getting really annoyed, and that's partly on me, so TO BE CLEAR:

  1. I am currently learning to drive. I have an instructor. Driving schools do not allow you to use your car. That's cool with me, no issue here.

  2. The point of the post is because I have a car that I am trying to maintain. I am concerned with it just sitting in the driveway, and I know that I cannot legally drive it on my own. Hence the post.

best speciality coffee shops to be a barista at?

i work as a barista right now, but at a more starbucks-esque coffee shop. i am into speciality coffee and would much prefer to work in a specialty coffee shop! however, the work environment at my current workplace is great, so i don’t want to leave for a speciality coffee shop, just for the work environment to be poor, with bad management, poor cleanliness, and the like. do any of y’all have recommendations for good places to work, with this in mind? thanks!!

edit: i would prefer coffee shops in seattle! i live in issaquah right now, but will be moving to seattle in january.

Question Pregnancy-safe Pilates, strength training, or fitness studios near Fremont/Wallingford?

Hi everyone! I’m currently 13 weeks pregnant with my first baby and live in the Fremont/Wallingford area of Seattle.

I’m looking for recommendations for pregnancy-friendly fitness studios or trainers where I can stay active throughout my pregnancy while exercising safely.
I’m open to pretty much anything, including:
- Prenatal Pilates (private sessions or group classes)
- Strength training or weight training with a personal trainer experienced in prenatal fitness
- Prenatal yoga or other pregnancy-friendly workout classes
- Any studios or programs specifically designed for expecting moms

Ideally, I’d love somewhere near Fremont, greenlake or Wallingford.

Since this is my first pregnancy, I’d especially appreciate recommendations for instructors who are knowledgeable about pregnancy modifications and know how to help you stay strong without pushing beyond what’s appropriate.

Where have you had a great experience? I’d love to hear your recommendations, especially from other moms who exercised during pregnancy!

Thank you! 😊

Best neighbourhoods to stay in Seattle for a month with a newborn (near UW Northwest)?

Hi Seattle!

My partner and I are expecting our first baby via surrogacy this January! We're coming from London and are looking for somewhere to stay for about a month, both while we wait for our daughter to arrive and for a few weeks after she's born.

Our surrogate will be delivering at UW Medical Center Northwest, so we'd ideally like to be within a reasonable driving distance of the hospital.

We've been looking at some places around Haller Lake, but we're not familiar with the area. I've read mixed things about safety and walkability, so I'd love to hear from people who actually live nearby.

We'll have a rental car, but we'd would love to stay somewhere within walking distance from cafés, restaurants, parks, and little shops to explore, especially while we're waiting for the baby to arrive. Once she's here, we'd also love somewhere we can comfortably take her out for walks in the pram.

A few questions:

  • What's Haller Lake like these days? Would you feel comfortable walking around with a newborn?
  • Are there other neighborhoods you'd recommend that are reasonably close to UW Northwest?
  • If you were staying in Seattle for a month, where would you want to be based?

We're really looking forward to spending some time in Seattle and getting to know the city. Any local advice would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Question Any 18+ Halloween events?

I’m 21 and my boyfriend is 20 so we’re looking for late night adult events in Seattle on the 31st but everything seems to be 21+, all ages/ends early, or it’s on the 30th. We’re just looking for popular events in the area but having little luck.. especially anything that’s goth, we’re also open to raves. We might just go to arcades and such but we really want to explore parties as we’re both pretty shy to it. Thanks for any help!

Question Query on EBT and/or Student discounts for attractions.

So I am on EBT, and am also a student. I recently had someone move in with me from out of town. I've been poking around at getting the good discounts since neither of us have a ton to burn. But I keep seeing that the second person needs to be living at the same home address. Would a delivery package label to the new address that matches my student ID be enough?

Just curious cause I'd like to take them around before the weather gets too much cooler.
