Question Any 18+ Halloween events?

• Upvotes

I’m 21 and my boyfriend is 20 so we’re looking for late night adult events in Seattle on the 31st but everything seems to be 21+, all ages/ends early, or it’s on the 30th. We’re just looking for popular events in the area but having little luck.. especially anything that’s goth, we’re also open to raves. We might just go to arcades and such but we really want to explore parties as we’re both pretty shy to it. Thanks for any help!

Question Where to buy pillows?

Where can I buy hefty hotel-style pillows IN Seattle? I don’t shop on amazon and would prefer to keep $ local. Has anyone ever bought new pillows from a hotel? Is that a thing? I need better sleep.

Question Why is dating app not working for us?

I see so many good looking straight men/women in real life and on dating apps who are looking for long term relationship and are still single. What is your struggle in dating world?

For me as a 29M average dude i barely get likes/matches like 1 or 2 likes in few weeks/months that don't lead to anywhere. I see all these profiles of women who i assume get tons of likes and can filter through to get few decent matches maybe handful. What is it that you would like to see from the counterpart? And to extend this to struggles that you see in LGBTQ+ dating world.
I'm just baffled how much of a struggle dating has been, i was naive to think i would be dating few people in past few years and eventually find the right person to plan life with and it has been anything but that, can't blame anything but bring more acceptance and humility to myself.

Reliable Electrician - Hourly Rate reality check

I got a quote from an electrician company I've used in the past and their hourly rate for labor is $175. Is this a reasonable rate in the Seattle market these days?

Moving / Visiting What’s it like living in the central district / Judkins park area?

Asking for some family members whom are looking at housing in the area. Any cool coffee shops, markets close by, activities and gyms to do and use? Also traffic and if there’s any issues with like homeless population, crime, auto theft, public transport. One person uses a car the other mostly relies on public transport and works up north in Edmonds…

Just want to collect info for them, thanks!

Question Pregnancy-safe Pilates, strength training, or fitness studios near Fremont/Wallingford?

Hi everyone! I’m currently 13 weeks pregnant with my first baby and live in the Fremont/Wallingford area of Seattle.

I’m looking for recommendations for pregnancy-friendly fitness studios or trainers where I can stay active throughout my pregnancy while exercising safely.
I’m open to pretty much anything, including:
- Prenatal Pilates (private sessions or group classes)
- Strength training or weight training with a personal trainer experienced in prenatal fitness
- Prenatal yoga or other pregnancy-friendly workout classes
- Any studios or programs specifically designed for expecting moms

Ideally, I’d love somewhere near Fremont, greenlake or Wallingford.

Since this is my first pregnancy, I’d especially appreciate recommendations for instructors who are knowledgeable about pregnancy modifications and know how to help you stay strong without pushing beyond what’s appropriate.

Where have you had a great experience? I’d love to hear your recommendations, especially from other moms who exercised during pregnancy!

Thank you! 😊

Seattle has a rat problem

Update after posting - I’m not saying London doesn’t have any rats, I’m saying that I see rats on a daily basis here in Seattle and I would hardly ever see rats on a daily basis in London. Honestly, maybe I’m learning that seeing rats regularly is fairly normal for America. It is not in the UK.

This city has a serious rat problem yet hardly anyone speaks about it (other than late night uber drivers who I ask directly).

No hate or shade to Seattle. I moved from central London (Edgware Road zone 1) to Seattle (green lake area) 2 years ago and on average I’ve seen at least 2 rats a day (mostly at night). Doesn’t matter where I am - outside the climate pledge arena, Capitol Hill, the bushes in SLU, Wallingford parking lots, my neighbourhood etc they are everywhere.

I’m surprised it’s not spoken about more. In my 10 years in London I saw perhaps 5 rats in total and trust me, I’ve been out and about in dodgy places at all times of the day and night. But here in Seattle, they are everywhere. It puts me on edge and outside of NYC, I really don’t think it’s normal to see rats everyday.

best speciality coffee shops to be a barista at?

i work as a barista right now, but at a more starbucks-esque coffee shop. i am into speciality coffee and would much prefer to work in a specialty coffee shop! however, the work environment at my current workplace is great, so i don’t want to leave for a speciality coffee shop, just for the work environment to be poor, with bad management, poor cleanliness, and the like. do any of y’all have recommendations for good places to work, with this in mind? thanks!!

edit: i would prefer coffee shops in seattle! i live in issaquah right now, but will be moving to seattle in january.

Question Query on EBT and/or Student discounts for attractions.

So I am on EBT, and am also a student. I recently had someone move in with me from out of town. I've been poking around at getting the good discounts since neither of us have a ton to burn. But I keep seeing that the second person needs to be living at the same home address. Would a delivery package label to the new address that matches my student ID be enough?

Just curious cause I'd like to take them around before the weather gets too much cooler.

Question Driving assistance in North Seattle?

Hi.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a service in Seattle where someone will come drive your car for a bit, or a service where you can hire a qualified driver(licenced 5+ yrs) or instructor to sit in the passenger seat while you drive? The issue I'm having is that the driving schools all seem to require use of their car, but I need someone to drive my car, just to even maintain it. I have a valid permit & have taken some lessons. I would like to be the one to drive it, ideally, since I need the practice anyway, but if not I'll take what I can.

And to filter out some questions: no I don't have friends or family that can drive or help me. They either 1) don't drive themselves 2) live too far away or 3) haven't driven in a long time, and haven't driven a hybrid before/don't seem willing to commit to actually having to do it semi-frequently.

If anyone could let me know how to go about even searching for this (google has been confusing, and the services I have found require you to have a driver for at least 2hrs, which to me is wildly unnecessary/expensive) I would really, really appreciate it.

Thanks!

ETA: I'm getting really annoyed, and that's partly on me, so TO BE CLEAR:

  1. I am currently learning to drive. I have an instructor. Driving schools do not allow you to use your car. That's cool with me, no issue here.

  2. The point of the post is because I have a car that I am trying to maintain. I am concerned with it just sitting in the driveway, and I know that I cannot legally drive it on my own. Hence the post.

Recommendation Best Pelvic Floor PT?

Hi all! We are expecting our first baby in early November and she will be delivered via c-section. Does anyone have a great experience with a pelvic floor PT they'd like to recommend, for both prenatal and postnatal recovery after c-section delivery? I'm a small person with a huge-ass fetus, so I am assuming I will have some ab separation issues to manage as well. Thank you in advance!

Recommendation Best coffee roasters

Hi guys! I’m looking for good coffee roasters in Seattle. I’m looking for something local and medium-dark roast at a reasonable price. I really liked mukilteo beans a lot but I want to try something new and not something that’s store bought like Whole Foods/Target/Trader Joe’s. I also want the option to grind beans as per my choice because I have a lot of equipments at home.

Edit: Guys I bought anchorhead coffee- Guatemala with dark chocolate, cherry and nutmeg flavor notes
I’ll let you guys know how it is tomorrow morning, thanks everyone for your suggestions, will try it after this!

Im a huge socialite and concert goer, I have been dreaming of moving somewhere bigger for years. I like the sound of Seattle because I have heard it is a haven for music and queer people. Indie music crowd and other seattle residents, should I give it a shot as a not quite broke 21 year old?

Best neighbourhoods to stay in Seattle for a month with a newborn (near UW Northwest)?

Hi Seattle!

My partner and I are expecting our first baby via surrogacy this January! We're coming from London and are looking for somewhere to stay for about a month, both while we wait for our daughter to arrive and for a few weeks after she's born.

Our surrogate will be delivering at UW Medical Center Northwest, so we'd ideally like to be within a reasonable driving distance of the hospital.

We've been looking at some places around Haller Lake, but we're not familiar with the area. I've read mixed things about safety and walkability, so I'd love to hear from people who actually live nearby.

We'll have a rental car, but we'd would love to stay somewhere within walking distance from cafés, restaurants, parks, and little shops to explore, especially while we're waiting for the baby to arrive. Once she's here, we'd also love somewhere we can comfortably take her out for walks in the pram.

A few questions:

  • What's Haller Lake like these days? Would you feel comfortable walking around with a newborn?
  • Are there other neighborhoods you'd recommend that are reasonably close to UW Northwest?
  • If you were staying in Seattle for a month, where would you want to be based?

We're really looking forward to spending some time in Seattle and getting to know the city. Any local advice would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Good clothing spot for a bigger frame

I’m a bigger guy, about 6’2”-6’3” 340ish lbs. and I’m looking to up my wardrobe and ideally support a local clothing spot. Anyone know of a good spot to go shopping for something fashionable for a bigger frame? Im avoiding online options for now because i prefer to actually go in and try things on to see how they look and fit. Looking for both professional and personal wear.
