Other Have you ever been to your partners workplace to help out?
What do they do for work? How did you help? Did you get paid? How much if so?

I’d love to spend that time with Freddie Mercury.

Say, when pay evaluations roll around, do you discuss how much money you are getting paid with co workers to see how you compare?

There unfortunately seems to have been a shift towards this over the last few years… and I think I know the reason.

As someone living in Florida, ive had my fair share of snorkeling trips, both in the Florida Keys and once in the Bahamas. I saw so much cool marine life on my snorkel trips to the Keys
That brings me to my question: what are some of the best places to snorkel in the UK? Places that have diverse marine ecosystems?

so a friend and me were arguing about this the other day. we were talking about politics and I said that israel is more hated than Russia, and that I thought it was a bit weird.
he said that was BS and they are both hated the same/ both equally bad. so I said that i would gladly walk around the high street with a Russian flag t shirt while he wears an Israeli one and see who gets more shit.
he said that we would both get shit but I feel pretty confident that if I wore a Russian t shirt no one would even look twice. but if I wore an Israeli t shirt, I would worry I’d get stabbed.
who’s right?

Lately I’ve been handling more of my parents’ affairs: electricity and water bills, phone bills, insurance renewals, bank matters, medical appointments and medicines.
The problem is that I keep missing things. Last month a bill was paid late and we had to pay a reconnection fee. Small fines and late charges add up, and it’s stressful keeping track of everything for two households.
How do you all manage this

I think there are real strategic benefits to consolidating supply chains, but how do we make this competitive?
Leicester is an example of a town that clumg onto textile manufacturing via low wage irregular labour by first generation immigrants which allowed high streets to actaully source from the UK.
And globally. Manufacturing that hasn’t been automated relies on low wage labour. China structures its states as almost separate economies it can access. So the poorer regions do the labour intensive work, and they make it difficult for citizens to move between states. - point here is that even China relies on a pool of cheap labour it can access.

The title seems generalized so I'll say that not all of them are like this but I've experienced aggression and pressing from teenagers quite a few often times, as a teenager myself i understand i could be a target for this but i even see adults getting harassed like that, the first time it happened to me i shrugged it off thinking it was just one of the bad apples, but i've have experienced this like atleast 4-5 times and it just seems a lot more than what i would've experienced if i was in the middle east. Maybe living in a shitty area is a cause, but its even happened when i was in well developed parts of the town.

I looked at the pages and noticed the British culture/history embedded in the UK passport passages specifically page 28. Surely this is gonna trifle the racists in the comments with replies “uh it’s international travels” but all the pages have British culture and no other foreign countries are shown. So genuinely I’m asking is “what does this imply”.

In comparison to European ones?
I remember going to a Carrefour in France years ago, (well before the Brexit referendum BTW) & thinking, 'WOW'!
Here I am in Estepona, Southern Spain, in Carrefour again & it never ceases to amaze me how shit our 'supermarkets' are in comparison.
I know local produce is dependant on the weather etc but even the choice of stuff like meat, cheese, fish etc is miles off the scale, & always had been.
Have our supermarkets always been garbage?

From my own experience it was getting to work.

hi all. i would never usually make a post like this but i am genuinely struggling. i (M21) currently “live” with my mum (F51) and i don’t know what to do.
i have been living in a car (which i lost recently due to a crash) since august, and my household is toxic and drives my mental state worse.
for context, i am an AuDHD person, and my mum is my “full time carer” yet every time i ask for help (which is within reason, due to tasks i require a carer with) she always sighs and screams at me for it, i have been choosing to sleep in the car because, frankly, being around her drives my (already “at risk”) mental state worse.
she completely disregards my disabilities and gets angry at me for things beyond my control, and if i disagree with her or upset her, she screams at me, saying i am a “vile abusive manipulative narcissistic cunt”
today, i have tried to have a civil, calm conversation with her, in a public setting, and she went straight to giving me the silent treatment and even went as far as to scream at me in public, and rant about me to the poor cashier in the shop who was purely trying to do her job.
she also screamed at me in regards to my partner (F20) and said one of the reasons she doesn’t want her staying over is due to my partners religious beliefs, bear in mind we are the same religion. i told her that was discrimination and she told me i was
using “satanic manipulation tactics”
for extra context, i am currently under watch due to suicidal and self harming behaviour, which she blames my partner for, even though i have been engaging in these behaviours since 12 years old.
every time i try to have a civilised and respectful conversation about my emotions and feelings to her, she tells me i am a manipulative narcissist who is trying to use emotional blackmail against her. she has also been on rambles about how the whole family is against her and talking about her behind her back, and the only proof or source she has is because “she just knows it”
she refuses to seek any kind of psychological or emotional help and ever since i was a child she has engaged in this behavior.
when i was a child she had said she “hates liars” and told me that if i ever lied she would cut my tongue out and make me chew on soap.
whenever i had told the truth about my upbringing during therapy sessions, she would get extremely angry and say i was “making up lies so that she would look bad”
she very obviously has some kind of paranoid delusion disorder yet she refuses to seek help for it.
anyway, context over, i am unable to save enough due to her taking over half of my PIP payment as “rent” which for some reason is gone within a few days.
for added context, when i was first awarded PIP, i got backpaid, and received £3K, which i wanted to put into savings for a house, however, on her terms, i had sent her £1.5K, which was all gone by the next day.
she has a delusion in which she believes she will “get a big win” on the lottery, and i feel that i am indirectly funding that.
i tried to talk to her earlier about the potential of me lowering my payments so i can save towards my own place, and she straight away started saying i was a “financially abusive manipulative narcissist”
the last time i tried having a conversation about moving out, she screamed at me, saying PIP would “stop my money” even though it is not means tested.
nevertheless, whether i move out or not, i require a carer. what can i do about this, and how can i move out as soon as possible?
i fear that i will be trapped this way forever.

Horrid henry is a british series thats been getting crapped on recently, particulary Henry’s parents.
What do you Brits think of Horrid Henry? Do you like it or does it deserve the scorn and antipathy it has been receiving?

As you can see on the picture, Heart radio "recommends" that you buy 150 entries for 40 quid.
That's a way to make people feel like they'll have a real chance at winning the prize if they literally gift Heart radio 40 pounds for absolutely nothing.
Lotteries are supposed to be a very small investment that it's done to dream and they're heavily regulated as far as I know.
Radio cash giveaways have way chiller regulations and from what I could find online, they don't disclose how many people purchase entries every week, making it impossible to know what the odds are.
Still, people are entitled to spend their money the way they want, I just feel like every week thousands of struggling people throw out the window 40 pounds hoping that they'll become rich.

I was just wondering why whenever I google something or read a Wikipedia article about England or the UK, it's 90% has to do with London. How can one city be so ubiquitous? What's the rest of the country up to?
r/AskBrits • u/Teleg88 • 17h ago
It gets no hype whatsoever despite being a massive city you would think being an hour from London would mean it would be booming
Unpopular opinion but I just don't see that much difference between Birmingham and Manchester but you would think the latter was paradise if you listened to media
Maybe it will change when HS2 is eventually built

It seems common that people say illegal immigrants, when really they mean Asylum Seeker.
Calling people who are housed in hotels and arrived in boats Asylum Seekers would ruin their argument, but I want to know if people who say this genuinely don't understand the distinction, or whether they are just willfully ignorant.

Was it the Crown? Megan and Harry? Diana? I remember the Platinum Jubilee in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II or whatever it was called and seeing all the history, even in the 1980s, the Royal family seemed so different to the way they act and are perceived now. It’s literally like watching the Kardashians or something, you wouldn’t think they were a “divine” lineage with an immense epic history. Hardly anyone I know respects them anymore. When did this all change?

We've produced some of the best films the world has ever known and a huge amount of highly talented actors/ actresses. So why have we never built our own version of Hollywood film studios and sets or produced some very high budget blockbusters like Hollywood? When I think of our films they're always like This is England, Dead Mans Shoes, 28 days later. That sort of gritty low budget look, which I love btw. Just never huge budget stuff like LotR or the marvel series.
