ANNOUCEMENT Rule Change: "DM me" comments are no longer allowed
To combat scammers that rely on private interaction with users, we are no longer allowing comments asking users to message them privately for information or recommendations. Many scammers rely on this technique to prey on people. If you have a recommendation, advice, or information to share, please do so openly - which is the point of this subreddit. Some users try to skirt the rules this way, the "No Self-Promotion" rule, for example.
Please, be wary of anyone on Reddit trying to get you to communicate with them in private. Be cautious of anyone requiring you to dm them before they will give you advice or a recommendation.
I'm open to opinions and thoughts on this rule change, please feel free to voice your opinion.

Austin area artists chime in!!!
I’m an austin area artist trying to get into vending at local markets. My biggest barrier is I have no idea how/where to turn my physical paintings into high quality art prints. Does anyone who sells prints have advice? I understand it’ll be an investment, but wanting something manageable financially for an artist just starting their journey to selling! Thank you so much!

Visiting Possible Relocation
Looking at a job that's in Austin and requires on site 2x a week. Never been to Austin but it's a great opportunity so curious. Company is offering relocation so I would have the opportunity to fly down and visit areas but am going in blind.
Where are the best areas for an early 30s, single woman? Income is $150k so 1bedroom for $2500 or under (recs would be great!)
Also... are there really that many roaches? 😬

Police Escorts
First formula 1 race, you guys know any other way to move people from point a to point b without using police escorts, I don’t even know if the sirens are real anymore or my brain is fried from listening to them non stop. Helicopter, highways, etc work everywhere else, why not here?

Nightlife Build a “I experienced Austin” agenda if someone was coming into town for a weekend…
If a friend was coming to town for 48 hours, what would you select for them to do to leave feeling like they really EXPERIENCED Austin with only 6 moves. Doesn’t have to be your personal fave things, just to give someone the “I did Austin” experience.
Pick:
2 restaurants
2 entertainment
1 bar
1 Dealer’s Choice
Mine would be:
Franklins and Guero’s
A show at Comedy Mothership and The Bats
Lala’s
Barton Springs Pool

Goods & Services Local Fallout fans - If anyone is going to Fallout Night with the Texas Stars in Cedar Park —
It’s too expensive to take my family but if anyone is going and is able to snag one of the newer design Fallout hockey jersey size 2xl or 3xl that I could buy from you plus an extra $10 on top of that I would be super grateful! From one Fallout fan to another.

Hi All,
have a question about voting for state officials.
I moved to Austin in feb from houston and didn't update my voter registration to travis county. I know I can't vote for county related stuff, but can I still vote for the state officials?
thank you

Moving 95Twenty vs Windsor Republic apartments
I’m torn between Windsor Republic and 95Twenty. Windsor is 4 years newer, but has complaints about noise insulation and insects. 95Twenty is $300/month cheaper, but also has insect complaints and negative reviews about management. Both have complaints about unresponsive leasing offices. Which would you recommend based on your experience?

Moving Anyone at the Muse or another SoCo apartment looking for a girl roommate? :)
hi everyone, I currently live at the Muse on South Congress and I really like the location. I’m happy to share my Instagram but a little bit about me: I’m 28F and work remotely at the moment. I have a lot of hobbies! I like to be outdoors and swim/walk/hike, but I also love to paint and draw and don’t mind a night at home! I’m very artsy. I love baking and cooking. If you live with me, you will likely definitely be enjoying some good dinners and baked goods lol. I moved to Austin about eight months ago from the northeast :)
However, my boyfriend and I recently broke up and still love together, so I am trying to leave asap but would love to stay in this area.

Beauty Affordable stylist in South/East/West Austin for low-maintenance blonde? Home-based stylists welcome
Ladies, who do you go to? Names or Instagram handles would be amazing!
Looking for a budget-friendly stylist, salon or not. Home-based or suite stylists are totally fine (that's what I always did back in NC). I moved to Austin a year ago and I haven't visited a hairdresser since then (shame on me, I know I know!:)
My situation: I have about 8 inches already of natural dark roots, then old blonde below. My hair is fine and dry, I’m a brunette. I love being blonde, but I know being full blonde is more expensive experience (I’m right?).
So I'm thinking: soften the line between my roots and the blonde, bring the blonde up a bit higher, and make it grow out naturally so the roots don't look obvious. Ideally something I only need to redo every 3-4 months. Also need help with my dry ends, maybe a haircut.

Has anyone hired a senior move manager for their parents? Worth it?
We are trying to figure out how to make my parents move less overwhelming and the amount of stuff they have collected over the years is honestly a lot. Sorting, deciding what to keep, donating things, packing everything and then setting up new place sounds like a whole new project on its own.
I recently came across senior move managers who help with all of this.
Has anyone used one in Austin? Was it worth the money or did you manage to handle everything as a family?

Shopping & Gifts Anyone in Austin who can remove an engraving from a watch?
Anyone know a watchmaker in Austin who can remove an engraved H from a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso? Would polishing or laser removal be the better option? Looking for recommendations. Thanks!

Help! good affordable storage unit options in central austin?
hi everyone!
i’ve lived here my whole life (except for college) but i don’t know much about the storage unit market. when i moved back from college, i got a unit with public storage and through the years, they’ve raised my unit pricing so much.
bc of it being such a huge task + my adhd, i’ve just been eating the cost but now i want to go through it, downsize, and get a new unit closer to where i live now (near ut campus/hyde park area or close to there).
i’m looking for an indoor climate unit with a company that’s known for being clean, affordable, and secure. i don’t want to just get stuck with another company like public storage that will give me a good price at first only to raise it a few months later and continue to do it. i also always love supporting more local/small businesses so that’s a plus but not required.
can anyone give me some good recommendations? i’m hoping not every storage place out here does the same rent raises i’ve experienced :/
thanks y’all! all advice is appreciated :) 🫶🏻

Goods & Services Anyone renting out a space?
Hi all!
My husband is an artist looking for a garage space to work out of. Anyone around Leander/cedar park area have a garage they’re willing to rent out? He’d be quiet and he’s unproblematic. He’s been renting a spot for 5 years and could get good references. We recently had a kid so now he’s looking for a more affordable and closer spot. If not a garage, we’re willing to hear other options as well.
Preferably 250+ square feet. Willing to pay $400 a month and can pay in cash if you’d like.

Testing concept — “no buy/budget room makeovers”
I found interior decorating as something I would love to pursue as my second life career. I have redone every room in my house, staged houses for sale/rent, and helped friends with decorating their spaces but not in a professional capacity. I don’t have any certifications, etc and am generally terrified of putting myself out there on social media (Reddit feels like a safer space).
I believe I’m really good at assessing spaces and improving them with small tweaks like layout/furniture changes, small and budget friendly buys to enhance the overall look, feel and function of the space. I love the idea of making someone feel great in their space without breaking the bank.
Would you be interested if someone offered such a service? If there is interest for it, I am open to offering a couple of free “no buy” room makeovers here in town.

Are poll greeters always this aggressive here?
First time voting in Austin and I was talking to a candidate I am interested in voting for. As we are talking this unkempt looking fellow rudely interrupted our conversation yelling "she's a corporate shill and my candidate is the only DSA endorsed candidate!" I walked away to avoid him and he literally is now yelling at me from across the parking lot to vote for his candidate. I complained to the election people but left so don't know if they did anything. It is my first time voting in Austin and I'm wondering if it's always like this?

Has Anyone Taken Legal Action Against a West Campus Apartment? Need help with legal advice or lawyer referrals(URGENT PLEASE HELP)
Hi yall,
I'm currently dealing with a serious landlord-tenant dispute involving a West Campus apartment, and I'm having a really difficult time finding affordable legal assistance
I've looked into UT Legal Services for Students, but they're currently not accepting consultations.
I've also reached out to a few private attorneys, but I'm struggling to find someone who handles tenant-side disputes before a lawsuit has been filed, especially at a rate that's manageable for a college student.
The situation is pretty urgent, so I'm hoping to find someone who could at least review my lease and advise me on my options.
Does anyone have recommendations for:
- Affordable landlord-tenant attorneys in Austin or Travis County who represent tenants?
- Attorneys who offer free or low-cost consultations or limited-scope legal assistance?
- Local legal aid organizations or other resources for UT students?
- Anyone who has dealt with a similar dispute involving a West Campus apartment?
I'd really appreciate any recommendations or advice on where to look. Thank you so much!

Goods & Services Need to dispose of two empty printer toner cartridges
For each toner cartridge, Office Depot gives a $2 store credit that's good for only one month. I don't buy office supplies very often. Is there a better offer around, either getting me more money, or going for a good cause?
