AntiWORK Labor Rights for Dummies: A guide to your right as an employee

I decided to make a post about this since the community keeps getting the same question over and over again. So here we go.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, so please feel free to comment any corrections. Most of these are just from my knowledge as a manager. If may kulang, let me know and I'll add it here.

1. Can my employer require me to work more than 8 hours a day?

Yes, but overtime generally has to be paid.

The normal working period is 8 hours per day. Work beyond 8 hours is generally considered overtime and must be paid at least:

  • Regular day: regular hourly rate + 25%
  • Rest day/holiday: applicable rate + at least 30%

A company cannot simply call something "mandatory OT" and use that label to avoid paying overtime.

2. "Our company has no OT pay because it's in the contract." Is that legal?

Not necessarily.

An employment contract cannot simply remove a statutory benefit when the Labor Code requires that benefit.

For example, if you are a covered employee performing work beyond 8 hours, the law generally requires overtime compensation. DOLE specifically states that overtime work beyond eight hours must receive additional compensation.

However, some personnel are xcluded in this. Art. 82 specifically mentions that "government employees, managerial employees, field personnel, members of the family of the employer who are dependent on him for support, domestic helpers, persons in the personal service of another, and workers who are paid by results as determined by the Secretary of Labor in appropriate regulations." are not covered by overtime pay.

3. Can my employer make me work before my scheduled shift without paying me?

If you are actually required to work, that time may count as hours worked.

Article 84 covers time during which an employee is:

  • required to be on duty;
  • required to be at the prescribed workplace; or
  • permitted or suffered to work.

So if your employer says:

"Your shift starts at 9:00, but you need to log in at 8:30 to prepare."

and you're actually required to perform work during that period, the 30 minutes may potentially constitute compensable working time.

4. Does my lunch break count as working time?

Normally, a genuine meal period does not count as working time.

Employers generally have to provide at least 60 minutes for a regular meal period.

5. Do I automatically get holiday pay?

For a regular holiday, generally yes, but there is an important condition if you don't work on the holiday.

Under DOLE's holiday-pay rules (Labor Advisory No 13, Series of 2026), a covered employee who does not work on a regular holiday is entitled to 100% of their basic wage, provided that they:

  • worked on the workday immediately preceding the holiday; or
  • were on an approved leave of absence with pay on that preceding workday.

What if I was absent the day before the holiday?

This is where the rule gets important.

If you were absent without pay (AWOL or unpaid leave) on the workday immediately preceding the regular holiday and you also don't work on the holiday, you may lose your holiday pay for that holiday.

6. Am I entitled to 13th-month pay even if I'm still probationary?

Generally, yes.

13th-month pay is not dependent on being a regular employee.

DOLE staes that rank-and-file employees are entitled to 13th-month pay regardless of employment status, provided they have worked for at least one month during the calendar year.

The basic formula is:

Total basic salary earned during the year ÷ 12 = 13th-month pay

So, for example, if you earned ₱240,000 in basic salary during the year:

₱240,000 ÷ 12 = ₱20,000

7. Can my employer terminate me while I'm probationary?

Yes, but "probationary" does not mean "you can be fired for absolutely anything."

Probationary employment generally cannot exceed 6 months, unless an applicable apprenticeship arrangement allows otherwise.

A probationary employee may be terminated for a just cause or because they failed to qualify as a regular employee under reasonable standards that were made known to them when they were hired.

One important point:

The employer should not suddenly invent the standards after the employee has already started working. The standards for regularization are supposed to be made known at the time of engagement.

8. What happens if I reach 6 months and my company doesn't tell me whether I'm regular?

This is an important issue.

Under the Labor Code, probationary employment generally cannot exceed six months. An employee who is allowed to work after the probationary period may be considered a regular employee.

So "you're still probationary indefinitely" is not something an employer can simply declare without regard to the law.

There can be exceptions and nuances, particularly involving specific contractual arrangements and apprenticeships, so the exact employment documents matter.

9. Can my employer fire me without warning?

Generally, no, not if the termination is based on a just cause.

For covered employees, the Labor Code recognizes security of tenure: a regular employee cannot simply be terminated unless there is a legally recognized just or authorized cause.

For a termination based on just cause, the employer generally has to comply with the two-notice requirement.

First notice — Notice to Explain / Notice of Intent to Dismiss

  • The employer must give the employee a written notice:
  • identifying the specific act or omission being charged;
  • stating the ground or grounds for possible termination;
  • providing sufficient details about the alleged violation; and
  • giving the employee a reasonable opportunity to explain and defend themselves.

Second notice — Notice of Decision

The employer must then issue a second written notice informing the employee of the employer's decision after considering the employee's explanation.

If the employer determines that termination is justified, the second notice should communicate the decision to dismiss and the grounds supporting that decision.

In other words:

NTE → Employee gets opportunity to respond → Employer evaluates response → Notice of Decision

10. Do I automatically get 5 paid vacation days every year?

The Labor Code provides a 5-day Service Incentive Leave (SIL) for covered employees who have rendered at least one year of service.

However, there are exemptions, including certain establishments with fewer than 10 employees and employees who already receive at least five days of paid vacation leave or an equivalent benefit. (Article 95)

11. Can my employer withhold my final pay because I haven't completed clearance?

Clearance can matter, but your employer cannot simply keep your money indefinitely.

As per Labor Advisory No. 06, Series of 2020, final pay should generally be released within 30 days from separation, unless the employer has a more favorable policy.

Your final pay can include applicable amounts such as:

  • unpaid salary;
  • pro-rated 13th-month pay;
  • separation/retirement pay where applicable;
  • convertible unused leave;
  • tax refunds; and
  • other contractual/company benefits.

12. Can I resign immediately without rendering 30 days?

Sometimes, but don't assume you can always do it.

The general rule for voluntary resignation without just cause is that the employee gives the employer at least one month's written notice.

There are circumstances allowing resignation without the usual notice, including certain situations involving serious insult, inhuman treatment, crime against the employee or immediate family, and analogous circumstances.

13. Do I need my manager approval for my resignation?

Generally, no. Your resignation does not require your manager's approval to be valid.

Your manager can acknowledge or process the resignation, but they don't have the legal power to reject your resignation simply because they don't want you to leave.

What if my manager says, "I don't approve your resignation"?

That statement does not automatically cancel your resignation.

But can my manager reject my requested last day?

This is different from rejecting the resignation itself.

If you are resigning without just cause, the general rule is that you should give at least one month's notice.

Your manager doesn't have to "approve" your resignation, but leaving immediately without satisfying the applicable notice requirement can create a separate issue.

So there are really two questions:

"Can I resign?"

Generally, yes.

"Can I leave immediately?"

Not necessarily. The one-month notice requirement may apply unless an exception exists.

Meta DOLE/NLRC Complaint Process

For reference of those asking, here are the steps in filing a complaint against an employer:

  1. File a complaint online through DOLE - eSENA: eSENA means Single Entry Approach (SEnA)and it is an administrative approach to provide a speedy, impartial, inexpensive, and accessible settlement procedure of all labor issues or conflicts to prevent them from ripening into full-blown disputes or actual labor cases. (https://ncmb.gov.ph/single-entry-approach-sena/)
  2. From there, magseset ng 2 mediation hearing in DOLE office within your city. Doon, kakausapin kayo and ittry isettle yung case. However if hindi magkasundo, the SENA Officer will give you a referral letter to the NLRC. (the 2 hearings must be finished within a month)
  3. You will submit the Referral letter to the NLRC office. If from NCR ka, their office is in Q. Ave. There, magkakaroon ng 2 hearings ulit but this time, before the Labor Arbiter (Ka-rank nya ang judge sa courts). Ittry ulit na mapagusapan yung issue here. You can still appear here kahit walang lawyer. (The 2 hearings usually happens within a month also)
  4. If hindi makapagsettle, the Arbiter will direct both parties to prepare a position paper. Doon nyo ilalagay yung mga arguments nyo, etc. Here, it is highly advisable that you seek the assistance of a lawyer. If your monthly salary does not exceed Php 24k, pwede kang pumunta sa PAO and libre lang. If lampas naman, i recommend this page i found "Labor Representation for Non-Indigents" (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61566451322338) na free consultation and minimal fees.
  5. Then, magset ng date for submission of position paper si arbiter. Doon, isusubmit nyo sa arbiter pati sa isa't-isa yung position paper nyo. Then, magseset ulit ng date for the submission of the reply.
  6. Afterwards, ireresolve ni arbiter yung case. Depende sa arbiter and workload, minsan within a month pero minsan inaabot ng 5 months.
  7. Then, the decision will be rendered. Yung natalong party will have the opportunity to file an appeal. Medyo matagal ang appeal, usually 8 months to 1 year.
  8. If no appeal and you are adjudged monetary award, magkakaroon ng pre-execution conference. Dito magcocompute kayo ng mas accurate and kung paano babayaran.
  9. Lastly, payment of award.

Note: Medyo mahaba and nakakapagod yung process tbh. Kaya better if everyone will find an amicable solution. These info are all based on my personal experience and with consultation sa nakilala kong lawyer. Hope it helps!

Rant 😡 3 months as Asst Manager in Retail, badly want to resign due to toxic environment

• Upvotes

3 months pa lang ako as an externally hired AM, pero badly want to resign dahil sa toxic environment. Below expectations rating sakin ng boss ko and puro negative feedback yung naririnig ko from my Manager and my team (puro parinig during working hours na buti pa daw si previous AM ganito ganyan).

I also have an upcoming reassessment with my Manager end of the month and possible na di matuloy probation ko so i'm thinking na magresign na lang. Lahat nalang napupuna ng buong team sakin kaya I'm considering resigning and requesting a shorter notice, kahit busy season. Super drained na ko.

Should i treat this as an adjustment period or di talaga ako fit? it seems like my team can't accept that a person with lesser experience than them was given the AM position that's why they don't respect me.

Rant 😡 Should I file a complaint with DOLE/NLRC over how my workplace handled a confrontation?

Hi everyone. I’m looking for advice from people familiar with Philippine labor laws, especially those who have experience with DOLE, the NLRC, or workplace grievances.

I recently had an incident at work involving a colleague, and I’m trying to understand whether I have grounds to file a formal complaint.

After my shift had already ended and I had left the workplace, I received a call from HR telling me to return because there was an “important matter” that needed to be addressed. I later understood that this was related to a report made against me by my colleague.

When I returned, my colleague and I were made to face each other and were instructed to talk things out. However, what was supposed to be a discussion escalated into shouting and what I experienced as verbal abuse. I was accused of things, insulted, and repeatedly provoked to the point that I genuinely felt the situation might become physical and that I could be hurt.

What made this more distressing was that we were left alone without management supervision while the confrontation was escalating. I understand that I also became emotional and raised my voice at certain points, and I acknowledge my own part in the disagreement. However, I don't believe that justifies leaving two employees to handle an increasingly hostile confrontation without someone present to intervene.

I was also concerned about the room itself because I was unfamiliar with its door mechanism and wasn't sure whether I could get out quickly if the situation became physically dangerous. Thankfully, no physical assault occurred, but I felt genuinely unsafe.

After the discussion, I contacted HR to say that we were done talking. I was instructed to proceed to another conference room. By that point, I was crying uncontrollably and struggling to calm down. When I tried to leave the room, I couldn't open the door myself, and an HR representative had to open it for me. I am not alleging that anyone intentionally locked me in, but given what had just happened, the experience made me even more frightened and vulnerable.

I was visibly distressed afterward, and other workplace personnel witnessed my condition. I keep thinking about how the situation was handled and whether management should have ensured that the discussion was supervised and that both employees could leave safely at any time.

There are also concerns about the time spent dealing with this matter after my shift and the transportation expenses I incurred when I was asked to return to work.

I'm at the point na hindi ko alam kung kaya ko pa bang pumasok due to the trauma. Just thinking about seeing that person makes me flinch and cry.

I am now preparing to resign and render my required notice period. However, I still want to know whether the way this incident was handled may constitute a violation of company policies, workplace safety procedures, or Philippine labor laws. I don't want to make unsupported accusations, but I also don't want the incident dismissed as merely a personal disagreement.

Rant 😡 Awol no pay?

Nag-off ako noong October 5, pero pagkatapos non, wala na akong naging day off.
Kaya nagtanong ako kung bakit wala akong day off, at binigyan lang ako ng off noong October 14.

Rant 😡 I've already resigned so here are the awful things/redflags I encountered in my first work

Since tapos na last day sa first work ko sa wakas, just wanted to share/rant about some of the awful shit I experience at work

  1. Barely above minimum salary

-This should be an obvious red flag kaso napilit ako ng parents ko na tanggapin trabaho e. Ika nga nila, dapat daw di mapili sa first job. The salary was barely above minimum after ng kaltas wala na halos natitira sakin

  1. Stingy Yearly Salary Increase

Traditional companies with this policy sucks ass. Kill motivation.

  1. Attire Restrictions

-Gets ko na disente dapat damit, pero yung naka black shoes, long sleeves and black slacks in this fucking weather? Really? Are we in the 90's?

  1. Weather and Duty Announcement

  1. Might be too risky to share pero cost cutting

-I can't go into details on this as much pero grabe gung cost cutting. Kawawa yung empleyado kala mo talaga ikakalugi ng kumpanya e every year record breaking profits kuno daw lmao

  1. Employee Retention/Discipline

-Ang weird dito. Pag me tao na problematic ayaw tanggalin o idisiplina. Solusyon? Hayaan na umalis yung naagrabyado. Yung nahaharass. Baliktad e lupet HAHAHAHAH

  1. Item Accountability

-Lupet ng accountability dept dito lol. Di nila chine-check muna yung sinusubmit ng empleyado. So tanong. Paano pag nagsubmit si empleyado accountability and may nasama na mali. Di nacheck ni employee? Surpriseee pag aalis ka na ket error yon hahanapin and kakalatasin sayo yon. Yeheyy!

Marami pa to e kaso too risky to share yung iba. As in sobrang lala HAHAHAH. Anyway ayun lang. Ingat kayo guys sa pag pili ng first job niyo.

Company alert 🚩 Job offer rescinded due to Dialysis (Anuria) despite Specialist "Fit to Work" clearance. Just filed with DOLE SENA.

Hi everyone. I just want to share my recent experience with a prominent tech/BPO company here in Cebu (NCR Voyix/NCR Commerce Philippines) to warn others facing chronic illness/PWD discrimination, and to get insights from anyone who has gone through the DOLE SENA process for this.

I was recently hired for an M1 Leadership role. I passed all the interviews, accepted the formal job offer, and was given a decent basic pay with a confirmed start date of October 26, 2026. Because everything was locked in with an official start date, I acted in good faith and stopped all my other job applications to prepare for day 1.

I am a dialysis patient, and I have always been completely transparent about my health. On October 3, 2026, my attending nephrologist issued an explicit medical certificate clearing me as stable and 100% Fit to Workfor a desk-bound leadership role.

However, because of Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, I have anuria (meaning I cannot physically produce a urine sample for their standard clinic pre-employment drug screen). My specialist explicitly noted this on my medical paperwork and formally requested that the company utilize alternative testing methods instead (like a blood-based or saliva drug test).

Instead of providing a basic, reasonable accommodation under the Magna Carta for PWDs (R.A. 10524), their HR field partner sent me an official letter completely rescinding my job offer, citing that their company-designated physician flagged me as "unfit" due to their rigid medical fitness standards.

They basically pulled my livelihood out from under me just two weeks before my start date—leaving me completely stranded right as the year-end holiday hiring freeze kicks in. They even wrote in the letter that they are "under no obligation to provide compensation".

I didn't let them push me around. I immediately went to the portal and formally filed a Request for Assistance (RFA) under DOLE SENA for medical/PWD employment discrimination and breach of pre-contractual good faith. I am demanding a full financial settlement to cover my lost wages, pro-rated allowances, and moral damages for the severe emotional distress they caused me right before the holidays.

My questions for the community:

  1. Has anyone else successfully fought a medical "Not Fit to Work" rescission with a BPO/tech company at DOLE SENA?

  2. For those who have been in my situation, how did the mediation go? Did the company offer a settlement, or did you have to escalate it to the NLRC?

I wanted to post this to get insights, but also to remind everyone: Don't let these corporate clinics intimidate you into thinking company policy overrides national labor laws. We have rights.

Company alert 🚩 Immediate resignation is considered AWOL?

Na relocate kasi kami and we were convinced to try for a few weeks yung new site before we decide kung mag reresign or hindi, so I did try pero nahirapan ako sa commute super. Especially with our current commute system sa Pinas tas nag taasan pa yung pamasahe.

And then, nagka family issue kasi kaya kailangan ko muna tumira sa bulacan while working sa qc for the meantime. Lalong humirap kasi 5 days a week, 8-10 hrs byahe balikan depende sa traffic at bilis maka sakay.

So I'm deciding na mag immediate nalang.

Totoo ba??

Rant 😡 Here’s a long rant from someone who worked in Sagility ZETA TOWER

Sagility BIG BOSSES need to seriously reevaluate how they treat their employees. The workplace culture is giving bully behavior disguised as professionalism. Let me give you some insight: they will tear you down, make you question your own capabilities, and make you feel like you’re not good enough at your job, even when you’re genuinely trying your best.

The current management, especially the female freak boss who always seems to look for what’s wrong instead of recognizing what’s being done right, needs to understand that recruitment is NOT just about quantity. It’s not just about how many agents you can endorse, how many candidates you can source, or how fast you can fill a position. QUALITY MATTERS. Candidate experience matters. The recruiter’s workload matters. And the people doing the actual work matter, too.

At this rate, the recruitment culture is starting to resemble the same toxic environments people complain about in companies like Alorica and Teleperformance. The excessive pressure, unreasonable expectations, questionable work ethics, and lack of consideration for employees are becoming increasingly frustrating.

And let’s talk about the salary. ₱15,000 to ₱20,000? In THIS economy? With all the responsibilities, metrics, pressure, sourcing demands, follow-ups, and expectations placed on recruiters? You expect people to perform like machines while offering compensation that barely reflects the amount of work being demanded. The audacity.

And the disrespect? Some people in positions of authority act as if their titles automatically make them better than everyone else. Leadership isn’t about intimidating your team, humiliating people over mistakes, or constantly making employees feel inadequate. Professionalism should go both ways. You cannot demand respect from your employees if you don’t know how to give it. You cannot demand quality if all you care about is quantity.

If your entire management strategy revolves around criticism, pressure, and making employees feel like they’re never enough, maybe the problem isn’t always your employees. Maybe it’s the way you lead.

.Nakakapagod yung sistema na parang ang goal is to squeeze every last bit of energy out of employees tapos kapag napagod ka, parang kasalanan mo pa.

I get it. We’re paid to do our jobs well, and nobody’s asking to be spoon-fed or excused from accountability. Pero kung araw-araw ka na lang hahanapan ng mali, bawat galaw mo may puna, at parang lahat ng ginagawa mo kulang pa rin, how do you expect employees to stay motivated?

The problem isn’t being corrected. It’s HOW you correct people, how you manage them, and how you make them feel like no matter how hard they work, it will never be enough. You can hold people accountable without making them feel incompetent every single day. You can demand quality work without creating an environment where employees are constantly anxious about making the smallest mistake.

And honestly, ang ironic lang na companies expect employees to show commitment, initiative, and dedication, pero nasaan yung consideration and respect in return? They want people to act like they care about the company, but they forget that employees are human beings with limits, too.

At the end of the day, trabaho lang ’to. We can be professional, meet our responsibilities, and do our jobs properly without sacrificing our peace of mind just to satisfy management that keeps moving the goalpost. A paycheck is compensation for our work, not a license to treat employees however you want.

You cannot keep draining people, nitpicking every mistake, making them feel replaceable, and then expect them to stay motivated, loyal, and passionate about their jobs. Sometimes, the reason employees stop going above and beyond is because they’ve finally realized that no matter how much extra effort they give, it will never be enough for people who only know how to point out what’s wrong

Rant 😡 ADVISE PLS

Hi need advise.

3mos palang ako dito bilang HR & Admin, pero nung inevaluate ako last week binigyan ako ng notice of non regularization.

Wala akong supervisor, during my probationary walang nagtetrain sakin. Power tripping ginagawa nya! At kung ano anong masasakit na salita pa.

Ngayon, binigyan ako ng notice of termination/non regularization and maximum of 30days nalang ako dito para makahanap daw ako ng malilipatan.

may side gig ako as layout artist/editor sa isang small private company here in the metro for more than 1 year na. wfh siya, and walang strict working hours. walang contract pero may regular payslips naman ako na may position at holiday pay. ang problema, 4 cutoffs na kong di pinapasahod. bali nagstart kasi ako as project-based lang, pero inask ako casually if gusto ko raw ba i-continue, and since then nasa 1 year 4 months na ako under them.

kapag nagpa-follow up ako, laging sinasabing tight daw ang budget. tapos nalaman ko pa na yung ibang kasama ko nabigyan naman pala ng cash advance during the time na di ko narereceive yung sahod ko. tapos never din siya nag-announce ng reason if madedelay ba yung sahod that day, walang any transparency, need pa namin lumapit or magpm if magkakasahod ba.

may regular full-time job naman ako kaya may pumapasok na pera, pero di ako mapanatag na tuloy-tuloy pa rin yung utos na work pero wala akong any compensation.

may advice ba kayo on how i should go about this... kasi medyo may pagka-people pleaser din ako kaya di ako makapagdemand. gumagawa pa rin ako ng work, kasi iniisip ko, mas lalo ako walang sasahurin if di ko gagawin yung mga need ilayout...

nag-ask ako last week for update, and sabi nya nung weekend, pero nung walang dumating nung weekend, sabi nya this week naman daw. nawawalan na ako ng pasensya huhu

more context: bi-monthly talaga yung sahod, and regularly ko siyang natatanggap dati ><

Rant 😡 DOLE to NLRC - TP

Sep16, nanghingi ako update, floating padin daw ako and wala padin sched for HR talk HAHAHA.

so Sep18th nag file nako complaint sa DOLE, iba ibang complaints and hindi umattend si TP sa 2 meeting namin kaya endorsed na yung case ko sa NLRC, now question po, ano ano pong documents ang need dalhin pag pumunta sa NLRC and balak ko ipa photo copy lahat ng convo namin ng sup ko pag pumunta ako. aside from that, meron pa po ba? also, please bad needed tips po and advice sa mga naka experience na sa ganito.

sobrang nakaka stress na sila tapos imbes na nag apply nalang ako non, inantay kopa sila na mag go signal dahil nga need ko mag render para may sahudin ako dahil may pinapagawa akong bahay :(( nakakapagod pa yung byahe from talim island to taguig tapos sasabihin wag ka mag onsite.

sinoli kona din lahat ng assets and walang email from them about kahit ano. as in. ang nareceived kopa lang is text from PC management team which is yung nag pick up ng PC. tapos wala na. nakaka tamad sila.

baka din po hiring kayo, WOSA or WAHA go po ako hehe. thank you so much in advance po 🙏🙏

Culture Thoughts of a Proby Employee

Almost three months in my current role, and I am thinking if this is for me. I was hired to do strategy work and was supposed to report to the bosses. On my third week, I had my immersion in HR, and to my surprise, doon daw muna ako to fix recruitment and other items.

I was shocked and resisted the change, kasi hindi okay yung HR Heads haha I have worked for local conglomerates wherein yung HR Heads are kahit papaano full of wisdom and nakakatalino kausap and kawork. Dito, it’s the opposite, tactical lahat and very reactive. Ang follow up sa amin is kung asaan ang applicant rather ang programs. Nagpapalipad ng NTEs sa lahat, for simple errors. Maling encoding, maling comma sa contract etc, simply because everything is manual. For the first time in my working life, nakatanggap ako ng NTEs haha I didnt even bother reading it, kasi I felt that I was being judged for something I was not hired for.

In my current role, I oversee hiring plus engagement programs. Walang guidance, walang turnover, walang papers to refer to. You have to navigate on your own.

So since this is just part of my immersion, I reported everything to the COO who is my boss. I told him, if I will be under these people, ayaw ko and aalis ako. He’s okay naman with the set up, since my position is new and everything is experimental.

Yung proby period is a way for us to assess if this is also something that fits us. I am slowly realizing na baka hindi ito for me. I left my previous role because my boss was toxic, and super pagod ang mga bagay bagay bagay. Namamahiya and pabago bago yung isip ng old boss ko, pero at least he was competent and smart.

Ang layo from how these people are, walang foresight and planning. Walang strategic thinking, we live by the day ika nga. May murahan in the office and pahiyaan. Napagalitan kami one time, and I thought I was over it. May nagrecord pala haha and the PTSD is real.

I had to adjust to a lot of things - travel time, culture amd losing time to do my passion. I thought okay nung una, pero later on I felt something is wrong. I dread working, wala akong gana kumain and lagi akong pagod. Mahirap pa kasi my husband who is also my support system is abroad.

So if you’re in the same boat as me, I suggest you also take this chance to assess if your new company and role is worth your mental health, time and energy.

Should I start looking for another job?

Hi everyone! I’d like to hear your honest opinions, especially from those working in Business Development or corporate management.

However, I'm starting to question whether this is the right environment for me.

Recently, during an online meeting, my immediate head messaged me on Viber asking me to update a Google Sheets report before the MANCOM meeting. The problem? Wala naman akong access sa report, and I wasn't properly briefed about it.

After the meeting, I professionally explained the situation, and doon lang niya na-realize na wala nga akong access. Walang apology or acknowledgment, which was disappointing.

Unfortunately, this isn't my only concern. Here are some of the things I've experienced:

  • Poor onboarding and turnover.
  • Lack of management support.
  • No dedicated lead generation tools. Expected kaming mag-prospect and acquire clients without proper tools to identify potential accounts and decision-makers.
  • High expectations. The target clients are large corporations, which involve lengthy sales cycles, procurement processes, and vendor accreditation. However, the resources and support don't seem sufficient to match the expectations.

I'm willing to work independently and take responsibility for my targets. Hindi rin naman ako bago sa Sales and Business Development 30 years na ako sa ganitong profession. Pero I believe there's a difference between being resourceful and being expected to deliver results without adequate support.

Now, I'm considering looking for another job. I also have financial responsibilities, so resigning without another job lined up isn't an option I'm taking lightly.

I'd appreciate your honest thoughts:

  1. Am I overreacting, or are these legitimate red flags?
  2. Is it reasonable to expect BDMs to acquire large corporate accounts without proper lead generation tools and onboarding?
  3. Should I stay for another 6 months and see if things improve, or start exploring opportunities while employed?
  4. If you were in my position, what would you do?

I'm open to different perspectives and constructive criticism. I genuinely want to understand whether this is just part of adjusting to a new company or a sign that it's time to move on. Salamat po.

Rant 😡 Why is India so pathetic for private sector employees

I changed a job in June from a MNC to startup to be closer to family but now not getting paid since August.

Indian laws are so pathetic they dont save people from being abused by companies. No help, they only force us to pay taxes on income but when we struggle there is absolutely zero support.

I need help desperately to find a new job and need to leave india and never come back.

Company alert 🚩 Working in Maxicare as Sales

Do not apply. Sobrang toxic ng work environment.

The workload distribution is extremely unfair and unbalanced.

Imagine, one division handles only 3 accounts, while another division is expected to manage 30+ accounts. Same expectations, same pressure, pero sobrang laki ng difference sa workload. How is that fair? IMAGINE THAT.

Management should seriously review how accounts are distributed, especially within the Sales and Key Accounts teams. May ibang employees na may time pang mag bulakbol during the day, while others are drowning in accounts, deadlines, and responsibilities.

And the worst part? The people carrying the heavier workload are expected to just deal with it.

Are you seriously going to wait until an employee collapses from extreme stress and mental exhaustion before you finally take action? Kailangan pa bang may malalang mangyari bago kayo kumilos?

Talk about unfair treatment and poor workload management.

A high salary and attractive commissions mean nothing if you’re constantly exhausted, overworked, and mentally drained.

No amount of money is worth sacrificing your physical and mental health. Employees deserve fair workload distribution, proper support, and a healthy working environment, not just good compensation.

Stop rewarding hardworking employees with more work while allowing others to carry significantly less. Do better, management.

Rant 😡 Last straw from work

Currently working for a Singapore firm for 4 years na may sister company sa pinas.

Overly micromanaging na cla sa work at demanding cla na gumamit kmi na Creatives ng AI this year.

My salary is 23,000 php at work from home but I paid the bills and rent. At d sulit ung leaves kc 5 days sick leave, 5 days vacation leave lng.

Last year panay OT kmi almost everyday and every month.

Mukhang numbers matters to them, not the outputs because of AI.

I didn't file resignation yet, pero nagagalit ako.

I hope makahanap ako ng bagong work. I went way beyond sa work ko khit d ko pinapa-alam sa iba. To be fair, kanya kanya kmi nagbabayad ng monthly subcription ng chatgpt nang walang compensation galing from company. Weird right?

Company alert 🚩 Company backed out after I signed my employment contract

May naka-experience na ba nito with Sagility?

I already signed both my job offer and employment contract pero biglang sinabi ng company na hindi na matutuloy yung employment ko kasi nag decide daw yung client na magbawas ng headcount.

Is this considered illegal dismissal kahit hindi pa ako nakakapag-start or is this a different labor law issue? What can I do moving forward? May grounds ba to file a complaint sa DOLE or claim damages?

Would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with Philippine labor law or who has experienced something similar. Thank you
