For the long time taking the map to finish the lore, you may find stuff weird in the lore not connecting to the map, any questions I answer!
* 1866 - Prussia defeats Austria in the Seven Weeks' War; Bismarck deliberately avoids an overarching Austrian alliance, shifting Prussian strategy toward strong relations with Russia and securing Prussian dominance in Northern Germany.
* 1870 - The Franco-German-Spanish War: Leopold of Hohenzollern accepts the Spanish crown. A Double Ems Dispatch manipulates France into declaring war; Prussia, the southern German states, and Spain form a joint front, decisively defeating France.
* 1871 - Proclamation of German Unification: The German Empire is proclaimed at Versailles, backed by a strong, friendly Spanish state under the Hohenzollern dynasty.
* 1880 - The Alliance of Four Crowns: Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Spain form a monumental multi-monarchy diplomatic alliance to freeze European borders, contain French revanchism, and maintain continental balance.
* 1914 - The Great Balkan Flashpoint & Russian Backstab: Following the assassination in Sarajevo, Russia breaks the Four Crowns alignment to back Serbia against Austria-Hungary, escalating the localized crisis into a European war.
* 1914–1916 - The Great War: Germany initially maintains a strategic posture, allowing Russia and Austria to exhaust each other. A multi-front war erupts involving Germany, Austria, Spain, Russia, France, Britain, and eventually the Ottoman Empire.
* 1916 - The 1916 Peace Settlement: The war concludes with a localized diplomatic resolution rather than total destruction, preventing the complete economic ruin of Central Europe and avoiding OTL's catastrophic post-war total wars.
* 1921–1923 - The Second Patriotic Civil War: Bolshevik forces in Eurasia are crushed and eliminated by democratic and republican coalition forces.
* 1923 - The Treaty of Minsk: The formal end of the Russian Civil War establishes the constitutional, democratic Federal Republic of Russia (RFF); fleeing Bolshevik remnants escape into Central Asia and China.
* 1926 - The early Anschluss question regarding German-Austrian alignment is peacefully mediated through international arbitration rather than military force.
* 1930 - The Danzig Corridor Crisis escalates between Germany and Poland, but is held in check as major powers advocate for peaceful negotiation over war.
* 1930–1931 - The Arab Resurrection (Al-Nahda Al-Kubra): The Ottoman Empire Imploded in the South, leading to organic balkanization across the Levant, Mesopotamia, Kurdistan and Arabia without European Sykes-Picot mandates.
* 1931 - Facing total disintegration and civil war, Young Turk forces compel the Ottoman government to fold, transforming the rump imperial state into the centralized, secular Unitary Turkish Republic.
* 1931 - Russia and Germany intervene in East Asia to assist China in driving out the Japanese invasion, securing Chinese sovereignty while seeding Russian communist exiles into the region.
* 1932 - The Danzig Detente: Recognizing that military action would spark continental ruin, the German Bundesrepublik (DBR) retreats its demands; Poland publicly appreciates Berlin's commitment to European stability.
* 1933 - Lacking a Great Depression, a crushing WWI defeat, or societal collapse, radical fascism fails to take root in Europe; Adolf Hitler remains an obscure figure and never rises to power.
* 1935 - The Cyprus Flashpoint: Tensions between Greece and Turkey over British-held Cyprus are defused via the Geneva Accord, establishing municipal self-governance and an Aegean non-aggression pact.
* 1942 - Baltic Independence: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania achieve full, peaceful sovereignty through constitutional referendums and a Duma vote in the RFF.
* 1942 - Caucasus Referendums: Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan vote on independence referendums, but with less than 40% approval, all three freely choose to remain inside the stable, multi-ethnic RFF.
* 1950 - President Thomas E. Dewey ends long-standing US isolationism, opening American industry to the world and sparking a trade-based "Cold War" with the Eurasian Alliance (RFF, DBR, UK, France).
* 1950s - Surrounded by constitutional republics and lacking a Soviet backer, Mao Zedong and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) execute early pragmatic market reforms, integrating China into global trade decades ahead of OTL.
* 1961 - Persian Secular Uprising: Mass popular revolts overthrow the clerical regime in Tehran, establishing the modern Republic of Persia and reopening trade with Eurasia.
* 1961–1972 - African Independence Wars: A decade of anti-colonial national uprisings escalates across Africa, centered around a bitter French war in Algeria that spills continent-wide.

* 1972–1983 - Afghan Uprising: Conservative tribal and religious forces end central royal authority, eventually establishing a quiet, non-aligned Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in 1983.
* 1974 - The Rome Peace Conference: The League of Nations compels European colonial powers to sign the Rome Accords, granting full, unconditional sovereignty to African republics without imposed debts.
* 1979–1980 - Indian Independence & Partition: Supported by the League of Nations, South Asia achieves independence, partitioning into a Hindu-majority Republic of India and an Islamic-majority state.
* 1985 - The 1985 Oil Crisis & OOC Founding: Following a global energy shock that enriches Canada, Russia, Brazil, Venezuela, and Arabia, the League of Nations founds the Oil Organisation and Cooperation (OOC) to regulate energy markets.
* 1986 - The 100-Day Kashmir War: The League of Nations intervenes in the India-Pakistan border clash, establishing the provisional, internationally protected Free State of Kashmir.
* Late 1980s - Secession referendums held in South Slavia (Yugoslavia) and the RFF fail dramatically (receiving under 30% and 15% approval respectively), as member states freely vote to preserve their prosperous federal unions.
* 1991 - East Asian Economic Boom & ASEAN: China, Korea, Japan, and Southeast Asia experience massive industrial growth; Southeast Asian nations form the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
* 1992 - German-Austrian Unification: Following a landslide 89% referendum approval, Germany and Austria peacefully unite into a single federal republic; Hungary and Romania open their borders to reunite split families.
* Mid-1990s - European Cooperation (EC) Formed: European nations unite into a continental economic bloc (excluding neutral Switzerland and Turkey); the League of Nations defuses a Falklands tension after islanders vote 98% to remain British.
* 1998 - Confederate Cyprus: Cyprus formally adopts a Swiss-style cantonal confederacy, declaring total non-alignment and permanent neutrality.
* 1999 - The 1999 Economic Triple-Boom: Spain experiences a massive economic boom following its post-dictatorship recovery, alongside unmatched GDP and HDI surges across Scandinavia.
* 1999 - The Kosovo Settlement: An attempted Albanian annexation of Kosovo is stopped by the League of Nations; South Slavia returns the territory and constitutionally elevates it to the Autonomous State of Kosovo, later in the year, given independence assisted by League of nations.
* 2000 - Humanity enters the 21st century in a multi-polar, prosperous world governed by democratic federalism, strong international law through the League of Nations, and an emerging civilian-led digital age.

Key differences in this timeline:
Communism was much more popular in France and Algeria during the 30s
Italy did not join WW2 until it became clear that Germany was losing, then they joined the Allies, stalemating in Austria while capturing Nice. After WW2 they are invited to NATO.
D-day was a catastrophic failure for the Allies, forcing them to launch another amphibious invasion around the Benelux in early 1945. Germany is defeated by late 1945. Borders remain mostly the same except East Germany is now around the same size as their Western counterpart. French resistance occupies and annexes Saarland.
French resistance was much stronger and supportive of the PCF to the point they were able to liberate the country on their own similar to Tito
The UN veto spot ends up being granted to Italy instead of France
Tunisia was not granted independence
Algeria independence war ended up a three way between the French Republic stranded in their colonies, Algerian nationalists and Algerian communists, the Algerian communists ended up winning after a 15-year struggle, although still had to deal with Algerian nationalist guerillas well into the 1990s, Italy occupies Tunisia during that time as it becomes under threat of Communism
Many proxy wars between Communist and Republican France in West Africa even after the Cold War
Italy backs Turkey in the Cyprus war to weaken Greece
Thomas Sankara and Marxists avoid assassination and stay in power in Burkina Faso thanks to heavy Algerian and French support
Both France and Italy become nuclear powers in 1970
Ethiopia and Eretia breaks free during the 80s after over 40 years of bloody colonial war, Italy grants Somalia "independence" but in reality, they are still heavily dependent on Italy and are a neo-colony
Mussolini dies in 1970 and is succeeded by his son Burno, who is assassinated along with Magaret Thatcher in London in 1988 by a bombing by Tunisian separatists, this leads to Italy briefly becoming democratic after a revolution in 1989, but the fascists return in a coup just less than 2 years later due to incompetence of the elected regime. Massive protests erupted against this, but they were brutally suppressed
Italy invades Slovenia during the Ten-Day war to "guarantee regional stability", this combined with the earlier brutal suppressions gets them kicked out of NATO and sanctioned
Italy will continue to intervene in the Yugoslav wars, backing Croatia and Bosnia against Serbia to guarantee they have influence in the two nations while quickly defeating Serbia before NATO can intervene
Kosovo is backed by Italy in 1999 while Serbia is backed by NATO due to fears of growing Italian influence, Serbia ends up winning the Kosovo war
Most nations switch to recognizing Communist France as the legitimate France instead of the Republican one by the 1980s
France, Algeria and Burkina Faso survive the fall of Communism during 1989-1991
Albania and Libya are completely Italianized; Tunisia is heavily Italianized but still have a massive rebellious population
Algeria and Burkina Faso are significantly wealthier and industrialized in this timeline
France and Italy are among the poorest nations per capita in Western Europe, comparable to Portugal

Lucas Jackson Alexander, simply known as LuJa, from the Communist Unity Party (a merger of the former Communist Party PUA with the more Soviet-aligned Liberation Party) has won control of the People's Union of America's legislature and taken the mantle of Prime Representative (head of government), promising to end what he sees as "capitalist restoration" undertaken by the Socialists since their first victory in 2008 against the CPPUA and then continued with the chaos of the American Spring in the early 2010s.
Not only that, LuJa is highly skeptical of the market socialist system established in the 1990s by Prime Representative Trevino and seeks a greater alignment with the Soviet model and a reapproachment in politics.
Critics call him a Stalin wannabe, but his base, the inner regions of the Appalachian range and part of the Great Lakes, feels that he and his party are the only ones who care about regions left behind by competition in favour of coastal centers on the Atlantic.
This scenario is part of a much wider and long running one, you can join the discord here for greater information or ask in comments:

POD: Gladstone and the Peelites accept Derby's attempts to reconcile the Liberal and Protectionist wings of the Conservatives. Derby's government survives the 1859 vote of no confidence, and he stays on.
By authorial fiat (chalk it up to stress-induced) Derby's long-standing health issues crop up again, and Gladstone is made PM (Queen Victoria hated Disraeli and tolerated Gladstone). As a result, Palmerston, a major advocate for neutrality with Northern sympathies, is not PM and the British government is much more pro-Southern and hawkish than it was OTL. When some version of the Trent Affair occurs, Britain intervenes and forces mediation.
This is the Confederate States Collegiate Athletic Association (CSCAA) national championship for Confederate Football. The five conference champions compete in a round-robin to determine the national championship.

The Kingdom of California was established in 1655 by Queen Christina of Sweden following her abdication, leading an expedition of Swedish, French, and English settlers under the Royal Swedish Patent. Anchoring the realm at its fortified capital of Drottningsholm, the founding charter codified an egalitarian constitutional monarchy where the Crown serves as the first servant of the realm, balanced by an elected Ståndsriksdagen led by a Statsminister. Rejecting European feudalism, the constitution abolished hereditary aristocratic privileges, enshrining statutory gender equality, merit-based social mobility, and public welfare under royal protection. Over two centuries, California matured into an assertive, highly organized, and state-planned power guided by its Swedish royal dynasty.
Operating on the principles of enlightened statecraft, the monarchy treats the sovereign as the ultimate guardian of the public interest. The Crown cultivates loyalty from childhood through a compulsory, state-funded educational system and a respected national press. Together with the armed forces, these institutions foster a profound sense of civic duty, intellectual vigor, and unyielding national pride.
At the heart of this social harmony stands the Californian Church, a royal institution that seamlessly fuses Lutheran and Anglican traditions into a distinct national faith. Reflecting its Swedish heritage, the Church functions as a cornerstone of community welfare, preaching that the monarchy is God’s anointed vessel on earth to maintain justice, order, and progress. By blending spiritual life with civic duty, the Church elevates political cooperation into a shared, sacred obligation for the common good.
Inwardly and outwardly, California stands as a beacon of enlightenment, balancing collective unity with societal advancement. It is sustained by a philosophy of enlightened nationalism: the belief that true liberty is found in perfect societal harmony, and that progress demands shared sacrifice. The nation honors its historical struggles as the crucible of its greatness, its overseas ventures as proof of a civilized destiny, and its Swedish royal lineage as the eternal, guiding flame of its people.
Sorry the map is a bit poorly made, but I don't really know how to use mapping softwares so I just handpainted it marking the relative boundries of each country.
Kingdom of California units depicted:
Californian Lifeguard Voltigeurs:
Quartered within the marble halls of the Royal Palace itself, the Lifeguard Voltigeurs are an elite, all-female light infantry battalion serving as the living embodiment of the Crown’s sovereignty. Fusing supreme courtly bearing with ruthless marksmanship, these skirmishers are hand-picked from across the realm for their agility, intelligence, and unwavering devotion to Her Majesty. On the battlefield, they operate ahead of the main line, deploying in open order to harass enemy officers, disrupt formations with precision rifle fire, and melt away into cover before heavy infantry can react. Though their refined uniforms and ceremonial duties project royal splendor, under fire, these women are cold, lethal professionals.
Queen Ingrid’s Life Lancer Regiment:
(Drottning Ingrids Liflansiärregemente), also officially designated as the 11th Regiment, is an elite shock cavalry formation of the Royal Californian Army. Constituted in 1660 during the early foundational era of the Kingdom of California, the regiment is one of the oldest and most prestigious military units in the realm. It serves a dual role within the state apparatus: acting as the personal field escort and ceremonial guard to Her Majesty Queen Ingrid Karoline, and serving as a premier, high-mobility vanguard for the kingdom's frontline foreign expeditions.

Dated October 19, 2071, the European Restoration Command (ERC) issues a formal ultimatum to the European Continuity Authority (ECA) amid Europe's collapse following the Blackout of 2071, a catastrophe of widespread technological contamination in which electronic devices and autonomous systems engage in coordinated attacks against human populations., where critical infrastructure has been compromised, and unidentified figures or manifestations designated by the Governments as the "OTHER", threatens survivors. As the phenomenon accelerates industrial collapse and mass displacement, the war between the ERC and ECA further weakens Europe's chances of survival. The letter reveals that the ERC possesses a weapon of unprecedented destructive capacity, already used against Warsaw and Berlin, cities under ECA control. The Command demands the ECA's unconditional surrender, the cessation of hostilities, and the transfer of political authority, threatening further destruction if its demands are rejected.
The letter takes as model the leaftlets thrown by the American forces in Japan in WW2 warning the Japanese about effects the Atomic Bomb.

West Germany (Part 1), East Germany (Part 2)
Back in season 1, What Could Have Been looked into a timeline where after WW2, instead of the US, Great Britain & France turning their occupied German territories into the quasi-sovereign nation of West Germany, most of the land was just given over to France.
First France just claimed the Southern regions of the territory that it was controlling as its own. Spoils of war. Then the UK & the US decided that occupying fragments of a broken & devastated Germany just weren't worth it, so they handed most of the land over to France.
How will the German people of this new Eastern France fair? How will they be treated? Will they assimilate? Will they rebel? Will France change them? Will they change France? Tune into What Could Have Been to see what might have happened in a timeline where France annexed West Germany after the war.
In Season 2, we revisited this timeline to talk about how instead of the Soviet Union having it's occupied zone become the quasi-sovereign nation of East Germany, it was instead given to & annexed by Communist Poland.
Seeing the bulk of the Western half of Germany going to France & not wanting any trace of Germany to exist after the second world war, the Eastern regions of Germany were incorporated into Poland, a country that suffered heavily at the hands of Germany in both world wars.
With the Eastern German territories now the region of West Poland, how did the history of Eastern Europe play out in this timeline? How will the German people of this new Western Poland fair? Will they embrace Communism? Will they try to restore Fascism? How will they be treated? Will they assimilate? Will they rebel? Will Poland change them? Will they change Poland? Will they try to flee West? Will the Soviet Union still fall?
Tune Into What Could Have Been to find out what might have happened if West Germany had been Annexed by France & East Germany had been Annexed by Poland.
What Could Have Been is a sci-fi podcast where your host interviews alternate versions of himself from across the multiverse to find out how different decisions, actions & events might have changed the course of history. Listen to the stories of alternate timelines from a world where the Space Race never ended, to a world where France annexed West Germany after WWII, to a timeline where North America is being ripped apart by a new Faultline, to a timeline where humanity was contacted by aliens in the early 70s. Two Timelines
A very unique attack from the one we know: The attacks take place on Saturday, August 11th. The first plane hits the White House with President Bush in it, killing him at around 3:00 PM. More visitors would be inside the WTC during the summer and also on Saturday. both planes heading for the WTC, heads to lower floors 30 minutes or so later, trapping more people above the impact zone and causing the towers to collapse quicker. The plane heading for the Pentagon may not make it to its destination and could get taken back by the passengers like flight 93 in our timeline. Death count: ~9,000-10,000.
A more reminiscent attack: Still taking place on 9/11, Mark Wahlberg didn't change flights off flight 11 and Seth MacFarlane didn't oversleep for flight 11 as well. Michael Jackson also didn't oversleep for his meeting at the top of one of the towers. Both planes head to lower floors of the WTC in this timeline as well and flight 175 doesn't jerk to the right last second, causing all stairwells to be destroyed in both towers. Flight 77 crashes the same way and at the same time in the Pentagon, but flight 93 isn't taken over and crashes into the White House. President Bush isn't inside the building but it does leave another American Symbol to be destroyed. Death count: ~4,000-5,000.

1. The 1995 Quebec Referendum ends in Quebec gaining independence from Canada, Labrador is retained by Quebec while Quebec surrenders lands to the rest of Canada to allow them access to the Maritime provinces.
2. Russia never sold Alaska to the United States. During the Russian Revolution, the United States, Canada, and Japan intervened in the Russian Far East assisting in the Establishment of Far Eastern Republic which would resist the Russian Empire’s attempts to reestablish control. Reformed in the 1930s as the Republic of Beringia and it became a haven for Russian dissidents fleeing the Russian Empire and a location of many exiles from the Russian Revolution.
3. The United States does not gain Washington in the Oregon Boundary Dispute. American expansionists interpret the Monroe Doctrine to mean that the United States should only expand in the Americas. This leads to the United States annexing Much more land from Mexico after the Mexican American War in a desire to offset the loss of the Oregon territory. The United States would continue to press its expansionist policy through the direct annexation of Cuba after the Spanish American War, the annexation of Panama in 1902, and the Annexation of the Yucatan Peninsula in 1919 after the Second Mexican American War of 1917-1919.

Italy colonizes all its African territories with large quantities of settlers who significantly outnumber the natives in the coastal regions of Libya, Tunisia, and Somalia.
21. Spain experiences a civil war in 1933, leading to the collapse of the remaining Spanish colonies around the world with France annexing Western Sahara, Portugal annexing Equatorial Guinea, and Japan annexing Guam and the Philippines. Spain adopts a communist government while Catalonia gains independence with a separate socialist government.
22. The Second French Empire of Napoleon III is restored after the French Commune rebellion, leading to a very reactionary government forming. Denmark annexes more lands from Germany, and Poland annexes more lands from Germany.
