Opinion From a scared trans Albertan, please vote.
This post was removed from r/alberta so I'm hoping to share it here.
There is a lot of genuine fear within the queer and trans community about what this referendum can mean for the future of our rights in this province. The UCP has already made multiple shots at trans youth, and if history has taught us anything, it is not long before "protecting the kids" turns into legislating the adults. The referendum is already a threat to the healthcare of all Albertans, but it is especially harrowing for those of us actively seeking gender affirmative care through services like AHS, especially because the vast majority of us do not have any kind of insurance.
I cannot stress enough how utterly fabricated the "trans children getting hormones/surgery" fantasy the UCP has peddling is, especially in Alberta of all places. Please keep in mind that I am a 23 year old trans adult living in my own home, responsible for all of my medical needs and choices. I have been on the waiting list for surgery for 5 going into 6 years now, and I am still about a year away from a consultation. We could not give your children surgery even if we wanted to, we don't even have enough availability to help our adults transition. I came out as transgender when I was 16. I was legally required to complete two years of therapy before I was even allowed to be recommended for hormone therapy. Even then I had to wait until I was 18 to obtain hrt, even with parental consent. I was placed on the hormone blocker Lupron at 17 after multiple attempts on my life due to how severely distressing my menstrual cycle was. When I stopped taking Lupron, my period returned in 9 days. The effects of hormone blockers are completely reversible. Hormone blockers are mostly prescribed to cisgender children, usually girls who start their periods at 3 years old. They are reversible, and suicide is not.
Please understand, we could not help your children medically transition even if we wanted to. This is not something that happens in this province, it has never been something that has happened in this province. I have lost many friends proving this point. I am not prepared to lose more.
If there has ever been a time to be an ally, this would be your best opportunity. We don't have to have the same politics, I am just so sick and tired of my community, my family and friends, being used as the scapegoat of a political party that is actively inventing lies about us to avoid accountability for their own shortcomings.
Please vote.

Opinion Get out the vote!
This week, thousands of us filled the BMO Centre in Calgary and the EXPO Centre in Edmonton with the Prime Minister. We showed the country where Alberta stands. Now we prove it at the ballot box.
Today is the last day of advance voting. Voting places are open until 8:00 pm, and you can vote at any advance voting place in your electoral division.
On Question 10, choose Option 1: Alberta remains a province of Canada.

Article The Russian Money Behind Alberta’s Separatist Movement
“According to research published by Disinfowatch, a group that exposes foreign disinformation campaigns targeting Canada, between late 2025 and early 2026, the Pravda News Network published dozens of stories depicting Alberta as a province systematically exploited by Ottawa. An influence campaign known as Storm 1516 reportedly went further, creating websites such as albertaseparatist.com to circulate fabricated claims — including the assertion that the federal government fleeces $20,000 a year from every Alberta family. Russian state-aligned outlets, like Sputnik and RT, then helped elevate these narratives, alongside inflammatory commentary from sympathetic US influencers on YouTube and X, giving fringe claims the appearance of mainstream debate.
These messages are not always entirely consistent or aligned. Russia is well-known for advancing any divisive narrative and for testing and refining what works and gains traction. The objective is corrosion: to convince Canadians their democracy is irreparably broken and that the country’s internal divisions are deeper than they really are, particularly as Alberta moves toward a referendum.
The re-election of Donald Trump and his fifty-first-state rhetoric have also raised serious concerns with Canadians about foreign interference from our southern neighbour. For instance, earlier this year, US state department officials met with ”

Article Researchers find jump in U.S. influence campaigns targeting Alberta referendum as vote looms
"about 80 per cent of suspected foreign influence activity targeting the Alberta referendum – roughly 40,000 items a month – has been linked to Russian bots and content farms, which churn out memes, social-media messages and videos aimed at promoting pro-separatist messages in Canada.
The remaining 20 per cent has been linked to U.S. sources, including influential podcasters, right-wing political pundits and social media influencers.
That ratio remained mostly unchanged until late September, when the U.S. share rose to 24 per cent, and the portion attributed to Russian sources dropped to 76 per cent."

Article Was anybody else a little confused about how they wanted the ballot filled out yesterday
So they said I was the only person yesterday that asked. How to fill out the ballot correctly.
I was born and raised in Canada.
The ballot asked you to check off the box opposite to what you agreed with.
So are you supposed to put the X for what you want it?
Or the ex for what you didn't want
Leaving the blank box as your a.k.a. green one that you agreed with with.
