How long before NYS takes over Albany finances like they did in Troy in the 1990s?

For the uninitiated, Troy got itself in such bad financial trouble in the '90s that New York State came in, bailed them out with the MAC debt, got rid of the mayor and required 25 years of financial oversight.

It broke the political status quo which might be why Troy no longer has a single party in charge. It also trained a whole generation of decision makers that fiscal responsibility was mandatory. Troy paid off the MAC debt about 3 years ago and this year it is the only major city in the capital region under the tax cap.

What if this happens in Albany?

Basically the title. Looking for a reliable and fair plumber to do some small and large jobs. We need a new valve in a toilet but also want a water softener. We have several other things in mind as well but just to give an idea of the type of work needed.

Hi! Is there anyone that makes their own crafted items and has been thinking of opening up an Etsy shop? I have a shop now but feel I donโ€™t have enough items to grab peopleโ€™s attention so wanted to see if there were people interested in having a collective page of upstate crafty gals?

You can check out my page here if you want and see if youโ€™d be interested. Any sales made on your items would be 100% yours and we can work together on how to plan out shipping the items and such. Let me know!

Recommendations for veterinary oncologists/surgeons near Albany, NY? Anyone with experience treating mast cell tumors on the nose?

Hi everyone! I'm looking for recommendations for veterinary oncologists and surgeons in the Albany/Capital Region area, although I'm willing to travel farther for the best care.

My dog has a mast cell tumor on her nose, right next to the black part, so I'm particularly concerned about finding someone experienced who can successfully remove the tumor while minimizing damage to her nose. We're currently going to Burnt Hills Veterinary Hospital, but I'd like to research all our options and potentially get a second opinion before deciding where to have the surgery performed.

I'm interested in comparing different hospitals and specific veterinarians, particularly those with experience treating mast cell tumors and performing surgery in delicate areas like the face and nose. Does anyone have experience with veterinary oncology or surgery in the area? Are there particular hospitals or surgeons you would highly recommend?

I'd also love to hear from anyone whose dog has had a mast cell tumor on their nose or in a similarly delicate location. What treatment did you choose, how was the recovery, and what was the outcome?

Thank you so much for any recommendations or experiences you can share!

Earliest pizza in the capital region

My friend is undergoing an emergency that requires they eat pizza at an extremely early hour of the day. I've seen posts about the best pizza, best late-night pizza, best pizza of different styles - but where do I go if I need a pizza as early as possible?

Plow People?

You know it's going to snow, right? Our usual plow kid left to join the Marines, so we are looking for someone new. We have a decent-sized driveway and need a reliable plow person. Please DM me if you are interested or have a recommendation! Super El Nino is coming and it may be warmer then usually there will be some heavy snowfall.

The good news is that thereโ€™s minimal support at the state level so this comical idea appears to be DOA.

Albany winter driving tips for first ever winter?

I've got a hybrid car, a couple years old now. Never lived in cold climates before so kind of lost on what to really do on a cold morning when I need to drive to work.

There've been a couple mornings lately when there's a thin layer of frost/ice across my front/back windshields. I've been doing a mix of scraping it & spraying some de-icer to clear the windshield. Then I'll use the wipers & wiper fluid to wipe away the de-icer liquid so my windshield is clear. Then I get in and turn on the front windshield defogger (or is it called defroster?) but my problem is that for like the first 5 minutes the outside still fogs & sometimes grows patches of frost again..? I turn on the heater after I start driving and the engine indicator has moved away from "cold" a bit but it takes really long to heat up the car and make the windshield outside fog disappear. I've also been turning on my rear windshield heater/defogger (no rear wiper blade). I don't have remote start.

So..... can someone please walk me through what their morning routine is for getting the car ready to drive? Like from the moment you are about to go to your car.

Thank you so much I really appreciate it!
