Be more social in highschool and college. I grew up poor and in a bad environment, so I sorta withdrew into myself during those years. Those are the prime years to make friends, relationships, and make mistakes. I'm in a decent spot in life all things considered, but I'm still suffering the consequences of not being social during those years to this day.
You don't have much time left, but you still have an opportunity to take action. I'd recommend doing so while you can. Join some campus groups, just start talking to people. What's the worst that will happen? You are leaving in under a year.
Oh don't worry, I fully understand and I was (and still somewhat am) the same way. My point is right now you have nothing to lose. Go compliments some gals (and some guys, good way to make friends lol). Go be awkward. You might end up beating yourself up at night over how dumb you were, but in 5 years you will be thankful that you did it.
It's easier said than done, you have to force yourself to do it. Doing something that you are deeply uncomfortable with is hard. Sadly a lot of things that are beneficial for you are not easy.
Graduation in high school or college? If it's high school, you've still got plenty of time to make good friends. I had way better friends from college, even if we drifted apart after we all moved to different cities afterward.
Man this right here, it's so hard to make friends outside of that in America. I see how a lot of people peak in college and aren't ashamed of it like they are of high school
This. Came from a military family and moved every other year so I didn't really let myself make any connections because there was no point. I didn't need anyone, the way I saw it. That was a hard habit to break once I was an adult and had a stable spot to put down roots and, like you said, it's still a problem even after I have been in the same house and same job for a decade now
This is too true!! I didnt realize the potential I had. Also holding onto the the relationships youve made is important too. So many friends ive lost contact with,
No, we were friends. Just not lifelong ones. People drift apart. It's natural. Life sometimes gets in the way of being present.
Sorry you had to find out like this, bro, but most friendships don't last more than 5 years. It doesn't mean you weren't friends or that you won't be friends if you meet up again. So black and white, your world must be so peaceful.
A friend to me is someone who shares an emotional bond outside of family and romantic ties, where there is a mutual sense of trust and support. No time limit required.
But hey, if you tell people "we can't be friends unless it's forever", that's your own prerogative. I've considered all of my pets my best friends, and most of them are no longer with me.
Actually, you said if I'm not friends with the kids I was friends with from my hometown anymore, they weren't my friends. You were the jackass here, now go argue somewhere else, you're wasting my time.
