Don't participate in over-giving. Others will perceive your generous nature as a lack of self-worth, yet others still will take advantage of you and exploit you. 

Same thing applies for conflict-avoidance because you want to preserve peace and a calm environment without weeding out incompatible interpersonal dynamics.

this is solid, i used to pick up bar tabs for many people because i could. come covid and jobless - only person who helped me was myself.

Yeah, exactly, I have done that with restaurant tabs and learned that lesson repeatedly in a few other settings as well.
