Discussion I love Video Games but get quickly burned out while playing them.

So a new game came out last week called Planet Zoo 2. I have spent nearly every waking minute romanticizing this game. I was also really excited for this game to launch. I finally have got my hands on this game but I just cannot play it for a long time because I get quickly burned out. I don’t know if it’s because it’s overwhelming for my ADHD brain or what. This is not just specifically this game, it’s every game that I touch. I have spent lots of money on video games within the past year but I just don’t find the enjoyment playing that I used to. Is this an ADHD problem? Does anyone else feel this way about gaming or any other form of entertainment?

Questions/Advice About to get a divorce because of my ADHD

I’m a first time mom (F28) (Diagnosed/Medicated) baby is 1 year old (extremely attached to me and clingy)
Husband (31M) main/only provider

So our whole marriage issues are basically house chores and anything related to me doing my part.

I’m reaaaally trying my best but at some point my husband’s expectations regarding me are just unrealistic and I keep burning out and get mental breakdowns every two days.

I started to shout whenever I feel annoyed and my physical health is so miserable. No fun. No friends. My screen time is less than 3 hours (huge difference)

I literally have no life and I keep crying everyday or every single night. I’m diagnosed with depression and anxiety ofc.

AND THIS MAN KEEPS COMPLAINING ABOUT ME NOT BEING CHEERFUL!

From his pov he’s only asking me to be full time mom and doing all house chores and be cheerful and pretty. I lashed out last night and I told him this is too much and I just can’t do everything all at once without failing at something so miserably or losing my physical and mental health.

I want a divorce because at this point I think he just wants to be served. He barely helps. He pays the bills and bought the house but I don’t think he understands that this lifestyle is just hell for me. Although I really want to be a stay home mom and enjoy my hobbies but i just can’t. And I don’t have a plan or I have nothing to think about tbh because my thoughts are scattered and I just want to relax and process this.

I just want your advice and how can I be a happy stay home mom without being miserable from house chores and routine? Or should I accept my fate and get a job and a helper?

Questions/Advice Last media I've watched seems to imprint on me sometimes??

Hi! This might be a weird one but I'm trying to see if other people with ADHD get this, mostly because I've recently realized some other things are directly tied to my adhd and not just a me thing, like not having a single favorite color/song/etc. Sometimes, when I watch a movie I'll lowkey adopt the behaviors of the main character, or even the sort of vibe of the movie. It's the most noticable and freaks me out the worst when I watched horror movies like pearl, spree, NO I wasn't turning into a pyschopath or anything like that, but part of me really connects with characters we're supposed to empathize with and IDK. I watched a movie recently, Happy-Go-Lucky, with a very happy go lucky lead lady. It's actually kinda nice, I feel like life is great right now and I want to dress up in fun clothes and in general I just care a lot less about what other people think and bad life stuff. Can anyone else relate to this weird imprinting thing??? Cheers lol

Medication I thought Vyvanse was the problem. Now I’m wondering if I’ve been burning out this whole time.

I posted here recently about how Vyvanse has been affecting me after years of taking it, especially my personality, irritability, and just not feeling like myself anymore.
Someone commented that Vyvanse might actually be masking burnout, and honestly, I didn’t think much of it at first. But after what happened to me these past few days, I can’t stop thinking about it.
I’ve been under an insane amount of pressure at work for months. I’m in sales, and the expectations just keep getting higher, no matter how much we do. I’ve been exhausted, frustrated, constantly feeling like I’m not good enough, and somehow convincing myself I just need to try harder.
On Friday, I completely broke down at work. I started crying, had chest pain, couldn’t breathe properly, and felt this overwhelming desperation to just get out of there. I had taken my usual Vyvanse that morning.
Then on Saturday, I didn’t take it. I actually went to work on my day off because I was feeling guilty about not selling enough. My manager started questioning me about my targets, and I broke down all over again.
And now I’m sitting here wondering how the hell I got to this point.
I’ve spent so much time questioning whether Vyvanse was making me anxious, irritable, or emotionally different that I never really considered how much my job was affecting me.
What if the medication was helping me push through something I should’ve stopped pushing through a long time ago?
I don’t know if this is burnout, the medication, or some combination of both. I’m talking to my psychologist and psychiatrist about it.
But I’m curious if anyone here has experienced something similar. Did you ever confuse burnout with medication side effects? How did you figure out what was actually happening, and what helped you feel like yourself again?
I genuinely miss the person I used to be.

Questions/Advice How do I sleep more than six per hours night? I can't seem to do it ☹️

I feel amazing the once in a blue moon I sleep more than 7-8 hours. But it's so rare.

Five hours? No problem but I'm going to feel like trash. Even getting it to six hours takes work.

How do I improve my sleep? I used bettersleep to track the number of hours I sleep and for it's background sounds. I take ZMA before bed (makes you sleepy and improve sleep quality). How do you guys do it?

Medication What do you do when literally every single stimulant fails?

I've tried every single stimulant on the market, and my best experience was with Vyvanse. That lasted exactly 30 minutes the first day I ever took it, and never had any measurable effect ever again. I've gone all the way up to the maximum dose on Ritalin as well, and it had absolutely no effect. Currently, I don't have any ADHD-specific medication on board, and it is not working. I am unsuccessfully trying to overcompensate with way too much Red Bull.

This post isn't about starting medication because I've tried every single medication on the market. It's about what do you do when everything fails?

Questions/Advice Stuck in doomscrolling

I can’t get my eyes out my phone without feeling extremely bored and empty. It’s been days. I got this feeling multiple times and got over it but I forgot how, my brain is stuck. I want to do a lot of things but I want the satisfaction that comes with them and it seems impossible. Everything feels so numb. And I feel so lonely at the same time
I don’t even know what I want to do anymore
And I am so so tired from it

Questions/Advice ADHD is multi-layered - is it possible just to fix the root of it rather than one branch at a time?

Adhd
Time blindness
RSD
Self-hatred
Self-monitoring
Fawning/people-pleasing
Self abandonment
Childhood complex trauma
Low self-esteem
Impulsively
Emotional dysregulation
Addictions/unhealthy coping mechanisms
Rumination/overthinking

Is it possible to find the root that fuels all these branches of growing up with ADHD? I’m thinking that stored trauma fuels brain pathways that align with overall core believe of self-hatred

Medication Extremely tired after not taking adderall

Yesterday I didn’t realize I ran out of my adderall so I couldn’t take it. As a result, I almost fell asleep during work multiple times, slept the entire car ride home, did some chores, fell asleep at 7 pm and slept until 6 am the next day.

Now I normally am exhausted because I never get enough sleep at all or anywhere close to it. But I really was just so exhausted yesterday I just couldn’t function. Other times I’ve woken up too late and didn’t take it, once I slept until 2 pm because I didn’t take it at 9 am, and then I still slept for like 10 hours that night.

Does this happen to anyone else ??? Is it the adderall or is something else wrong ??

I never skip doses on purpose, and like I said I’m always tired regardless. Just, sheesh, it’s bad lol

Tips/Suggestions Ear muffs are not just for autism, they help my adhd overstimulation immensely

I (25f) bought some ear defenders because I’ve been going through immense sensitivity to noises and I tried them and oh my god.

Lately the volume of the tv, chewing, footsteps, breathing, dishwasher noise ect. has been rage inducing. I go through periods like this where my hearing feels supersonic and everything hurts my ears.

Put them on and I can think, my anxiety is cut in half, and I can sit quietly and calmly for longer than 5 minutes. I highly recommend if you’re easily overstimulated by noise.

Questions/Advice ADHD/ Existential Depression.

Hi folks,

Hope everyone’s doing okay.

I just wanted to ask whether anyone else struggles with existential depression or that constant feeling of dread about life and existence.

I’ve felt like I’ve had this cloud hanging over me for as long as I can remember. I try my best to accept it and carry on as normal, but honestly, it can be pretty horrible at times.

One thing I’ve noticed is that Elvanse completely takes it away. For a few hours, I feel free from those thoughts and can just get on with life without overthinking everything. But as it starts to wear off, the feelings gradually creep back in, and I’m back to struggling with it all over again. It’s exhausting, to be honest.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who experiences something similar. How do you manage it? Have you found any strategies or ways of coping that genuinely help?

Any advice or shared experiences would be massively appreciated.

Thanks

Seeking Empathy Does the anhedonia ever go away?

Been on SSRIs for about a year now (40mg Prozac), addressed my ADHD symptoms with stimulants, putting more effort to be healthier and to exercise more, started going to therapy too but this persistent numbness still won’t go away.

Feels like I’m just poisoning my body with more and more drugs that barely do anything. I’m still a wreck who can’t get anything done to save their life. Multiple missing assessments. Group members for my capstone project hounding at me to get my work done (for good reason, I’m the fuck up here). I can’t even get up from this goddamn bed half the time. Now my heart can’t stop pounding and it hurts. I’m such a fucking slob Jesus.

Success/Celebration Automating a few chores has made my life a little easier

• Upvotes

I've had ADHD for almost two years, and one thing I struggle with is keeping track of small chores.

I usually start with good intentions, but I get distracted halfway through and leave a bunch of things unfinished.

Laundry is a big one. I’d put clothes in the washer, forget about them, then find them hours later. Cooking is another. I’d finish dinner, notice a mess on the floor, tell myself I’d clean it after eating, and then completely forget by the end of the night.

Recently my husband added a few simple automations at home, and they've been really helpful. A reminder when laundry finishes, lights that slowly dim at night, and our robot vacuum running while we’re both out of the house.

For the robot vacuum, I usually pick up cords and small things before we leave. It mainly handles the kitchen and dining area since that’s where little messes show up the most. Coming home and not having another floor cleanup waiting for me has honestly made my evenings feel less stressful.

These little things don’t completely change how I clean, but they mean fewer tasks are sitting in the back of my mind all day. Has anyone else with ADHD found small automations or routines that actually made daily life easier? I’d love to hear any ideas that worked for you.

Medication Ritalin vs Concerta vs Vyvanse vs Wellbutrin; somehow all are just slightly off

Hi friends,

Some advice needed.

I got diagnosed a few months back and it became obvious I need to be medicated, lest I end up jobless.

I started with Wellbutrin which worked well and mostly did everything it needed to do but gave me horrible double vision and light sensitivity so I unfortunately couldn't continue it (even tho I was happy, skinny and productive lol). Truly wish there was a way to continue but the double vision never went away even after 6 weeks...

Moved on to Ritalin, which worked well also. I liked my personality was fully mine and I got the work done when needed with enough flexibility to still socialize and it was great for social stuff as well as work stuff. Felt truly like I had superpowers and I had no visual symptoms. But I have a suspicion it is causing me GI issues since I am lactose intolerant (we don't have non-lactose versions here). I also have a suspicion it was making me more irritable? Nothing that I can directly connect as I am going through a breakup and am irritable in general but yeah

Moved to Vyvanse due to ritalin shortage and wanting more coverage. It..is weird? It is giving me similar vision issues as wellbutrin but not as intense, and makes me hyperfocus really hard? I think that's really great but unless I know I will have a super intense day where I need to get a lot done, it doesn't seem worth taking... Also, makes me lowkey antisocial which is like the opposite of what i want from my meds.

Might try Concerta?

Idk I just want something to work... what has been your optimal set up?

Questions/Advice How do you guys get ready for the day faster?

Getting ready for my day ALWAYS takes me way longer than it needs to. Showering, skincare, putting on lotion, etc, always takes me about 2 hours or an hour and a half if I’m moving “as fast as I can”. Showering always takes 30+ minutes no matter how fast I try and do things. I swear time goes by 2x faster in the shower. When I’m out of the shower I always find myself getting distracted by little things, or just spacing out for a couple minutes without initially realizing it.

It’s been like this for years. I’m tired of being late to hanging out with friends, or being a few minutes late for work. Recently it’s made my girlfriend pretty irritated with me, as I always tell her that I’ll be at her house by a certain time and then I’ll end up being at her house an hour late. From the outside it looks like I don’t care and that I’m just moving slow on purpose when that’s really not the case.

Does anyone have any tips to help here?

Seeking Empathy Doing 6 month long assignment in 3 days

I'm absolutely wrecked, this is an important assignment. If I fail I'll fail the semester, I haven't talked to my guide yet. They moved the due date by a month and I didn't check the mail. I am in absolute panic and going to have to pull a 48 hour long work session like last time. I'm feeling extremely hopeless, I don't know what to do

Tips/Suggestions Atomoxetine helped my mind feel quiet, but the side effects made me stop

I have ADHD and took atomoxetine 80 mg alongside methylphenidate 18 mg for over 6 months. Atomoxetine made me feel calmer, more present, and less stuck in repetitive thoughts. I really miss that mental clarity.
I stopped because of sexual side effects (low libido, erectile difficulties, and problems with orgasm).

Now I’m on Vyvanse 50 mg. I have more energy, but I’m still very inattentive and keep making silly mistakes. I also feel mentally foggy and like I’m on autopilot, even when I sleep well.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Did you find a treatment that improved your focus and mental clarity without causing sexual side effects?

Tips/Suggestions Apps I use everyday as someone with ADHD

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some apps that I tried over the past few months and like to use that help me with my ADHD. I’m a college student.

Tiimo A visual planner I like to use when a long to-do list feels overwhelming. I use this to brain dump my tasks, break them into smaller steps, and put them in a schedule. Helps me know that I’ve accounted for everything. It is seriously fantastic.

WillowVoice This one is a dictation tool. I tend to get a bit stuck seeing a blank page, so this helps me talk out my thoughts and it converts everything to text. I’ve replaced maybe 70% of my typing with dictation using this for emails, messages, assignments, etc

Pomofocus I’ve been using this for years. This is a pomodoro timer that I use to keep track of tasks that I have to do. Instead of just thinking about starting things for hours, this time structure helps me actually start doing.

Focusmate This feels like having a buddy doing things with you. I like to set a routine to this so I arrange a session weekly. I’ll book a video session with someone else, and we will share what we are each working on, then quietly do our own tasks. At the end, we check in on each other. I did make a friend through this too.

Questions/Advice Got the most incredible opportunity as a highschooler, threw it away

I got accepted into a really prestigious program that allows me to publish a policy brief/policy research paper into an actual journal, and then i'll be able to present my findings to my local government. I put my all into the application, somehow got accepted even though it has a really low acceptance rate.

It's a 10-week program. I missed the first two weeks for reasons I don't feel like explaining, and since I missed that, I felt COMPLETELY frozen. I didn't do ANY work except for reaching out for a 1-on-1 meeting to 'make up missing work'. that was a week ago, I've done almost nothing since then.

The 5-page paper is due this Friday. I tried my best to start today, I woke up at 8am and detailed every single thing I would do in detail. It's currently 1:30 am the next day, I'm looking at my paper, and I've written a total of half a paragraph. I have a day off tomorrow, and I'm contemplating just giving up today and writing the entire thing tomorrow with 'new motivation', but I know it won't happen.

I completely fucked myself over because of this condition I wish I didn't have it and I wish I could be normal like other people and work like normal people

Questions/Advice I am always SO unfathomably bored it is ruining my life

20M uni student, know lots of people but have no close friends because I get bored of people super easily

Never hang around others because their conversations bore me

Only interested in studying nowadays because it is the only interesting thing that I have the time doing

I can't stand routines

I can't stand house chores

I am bored of my videogames and can't be bothered finding something new in fear it might hurt my studies

I am not depressed, just uninspired, and I still can't find a sustainable way of peaking my interest with a new hobby (any suggestions would be welcome)

Questions/Advice Trouble remembering my past

Like the title, i just have trouble remembering the past. Idk if it's adhd thing or just me, but it's so hard to recall anything before i was 14, and I'm still only 18 so that's concerning.

Last week, my friends and i just played truth or dare, i picked truth and got asked "What's the most embarrassing misunderstanding you've ever been in?" And i know damn well I've had one before, but i can't remember. I just sat there trying to remember my life which probably took too awkwardly long until someone asked "you wanna skip this one?"....."yeah"

Tips/Suggestions The brain dump setup that finally stuck for me after years of abandoned systems

I’ve been through planners, apps, Notion templates, sticky notes on my monitor, all of it. Each one worked for about two weeks, then I’d miss a few days, everything would feel too broken to restart, and I’d abandon it for something new.

What’s working now is much smaller, and I wanted to share it in case it helps someone.

One dump page. I have a single page in Notion where everything goes the second it pops into my head. Tasks, worries, random ideas, half sentences. No sorting, no tags, no deciding where it belongs. Capturing is one step, and organizing happens later.

A short “today” list. Once a day I skim the dump and pull out three things that actually matter today. Not my whole life, just today. Everything else stays in the dump and that’s fine.

Sorting kept tiny. The sorting step is where I used to freeze, so I stopped trying to organize everything. I only ask myself one question as I skim, which is “does this need to happen today?” If not, it stays where it is.

A restart rule. When I fall off for a few days, I don’t try to catch up on everything I missed. I do one fresh brain dump and start again from today. This is the part that made it last, because missing days doesn’t break anything anymore.

It’s not perfect, but it’s lasted longer than anything else I’ve tried.

I’m curious what’s worked for other people.

  • Where does stuff end up when it pops into your head?
  • What made you drop the last system you tried?
  • What do you actually do when you fall off for a few days?

Seeking Empathy being loud all the time because my mind can’t stay quiet

(16F) people would describe me as a very talkative, loud, outgoing person. people wouldn’t assume my mind is consumed with nonstop thoughts (positive and depressive).

last week i was forced into a 30 minute meditation where i had to sit still and face a wall and just think about “nothing” (aka. an adhd persons worst nightmare). about 2 minutes in i started shedding tears because my mind went to a really depressive headspace. all the issues i’ve been avoiding all came back. and also the fact that i had to stay still was hell for me.

last night, well today i got no sleep at all. 0 hours. i’ve struggled with imsomnia but it’s not like that severe yk, just being unable to sleep around about every week and a half. i couldn’t sleep because i couldn’t stop thinking. thinking about like literally everything from imagining arguments with my friends and family to doing econ equations in my head.

so when people criticize me for being “loud” and talking too much i kinda get frustrated. i mean my bad for disrupting my surroundings but i constantly have to be outputting because my mind can’t stay quiet.

well medication helped me becasue i could now distract myself by actually doing tasks. i feel pretty good about myself bc now i don’t feel like a lazy piece of shit all the time. but when i’m not doing a task or talking my mind and thoughts overpower me and it’s exhausting. plz lmk if yall experience these nonstop thoughts. and how to like manage them.

Tips/Suggestions Rejection sensitive dysphoria with academics/applying myself

Just heard about this for the first time and I felt so seen.

For context and full transparency, I am not formally diagnosed due to stigma with my family, but I have done tons of research and think it may be a possibility.

That said, I just learned about this today which ended up being timely because I was just thinking earlier in the day about how bad I am with rejection. While I’ve heard of this in the context of interpersonal relationships which I also relate to, I’ve been experiencing this very heavily with jobs.

I’m in college and trying to land extracurricular positions with people who I respect, and every single rejection feels hard to get past. I just had a rejection that put me off from applying anywhere else for around a month. This seems to be the one thing I can’t get past that other people can.

Does anyone else relate to this type of issue and have recommendations for dealing with it? It’s worse when this leads to a feedback loop of not being qualified to do anything and then just feeling worse about myself by the end.
