3D Printer for husband?!

• Upvotes

Hi, I want to surprise my husband with a 3D printer, he’s been talking about one for years but doesn’t want to spend the money, he’s a disabled veteran and loves to build things. My budget is about $400 - $500, I want something that’s not basic I want him to be able to be able to print different colors a the same time and something that will last.

Any advice on what I should look at is appreciated!

Product prototype question

Does anyone have any tips on what type of printer I should look into for creating prototypes for products? I’m wanting to create product prototypes for my business. The prototype i’m wanting to print is a hard plastic. What type of printer should i be looking for on facebook marketplace, and what type of filament should i be looking for. If any of you would like to share info i would greatly appreciate it!

Best desk/workbench for 3D printing.

Hi guys.

I just ordered a Snapmaker U1 since it was on sale, and now I'm looking into a good setup for it.

I was looking at the IKEA BROR workbench, but I'm wondering how much the U1 vibrates during printing and whether I need to take any extra precautions to keep things stable.

Would a sturdy workbench like the BROR be enough, or would you recommend adding something like a concrete paver or anti-vibration feet?

The printer will be placed inside a hobby room inside home. Not a workshed or something.

What are you guys using for your U1 setups? Any tips or things you'd do differently?

Thanks in advance!

3D Printer Ventulation

I'm just starting to dabble with 3D printing and looking for recommendations on ventilation. I'm going to get an enclosure for the printer but is an air purifier with a carbon filter good or do I need extra ventilation? My set up is in the garage, since the other place is in the bedroom and not a good option it seems. The windows in the garage don't open and I don't really want to open up the garage every time I print (or all day lol). Any suggestions would be amazing! Thanks in advance. Oh and I'm starting with resin which seems more important to have ventilation with

3d print start.

I want to start 3D printing, especially rather detailed models. I am just not sure what to pick. So, I would love to know your opinion what you would get?

I would like to print models of people, cars, buildings, spaceships. Also stuff I can use for everyday life, just saying, the smaller things. A size of about 30 cm would be fine, doesn't need to be multicolour, I don't really need that, but definitely detailed.

I myself have a budget of around 400€, I however can go a bit higher if that is necessary for quality.

Does anyone know or recommend a printer they would chose in that situation?

Best new printer under £500

Hey everyone,

Looking for recommendations for a new single color 3D printer available in the UK with a maximum budget of £500 (though I’m more than happy to spend less if a cheaper machine already ticks all the boxes - no need to max out the budget just for the sake of it).

Priorities:

  1. Print Quality (Top Priority): Clean surface finish, great dimensional accuracy, minimal VFAs/ringing out of the box, and reliable first-layer consistency.
  2. Acoustics / Noise (Second Priority): The machine will be in my living/work space, so quiet stepper drivers, low fan whine, and minimal resonance/vibrations are critical.
  3. Materials: Only PLA and PETG.
  4. Condition: Brand new only (not interested in used machines).

Speed is secondary to surface finish and acoustics. I’m happy to spend time on initial calibration if the hardware itself can deliver clean, whisper-quiet results consistently. If a sub-£300 machine already nails these two priorities, I’d gladly keep the rest of the budget in my pocket.

What would you recommend in this price bracket that fits this balance? Would appreciate direct experience regarding motor noise and stock fan loudness.

Thanks!

Bambu Lab A1 vs Creality SPARKX i7 which one is better?

Hi I am a mechanical engineering student there is currently a sale going on so, I am planning to buy single colour 3D printer and I have shortlisted two models the Bambu Lab A1(without AMS) and the Creality SPARKX i7(without CFS).

My main goal is to learn about 3D printing and use the printer to make high quality prints for my engineering projects and household needs. I am confused between the A1 reliability and its community support through makerworld and the i7 open klipper firmware with root access. Does the A1 closed firmware limit the practical learning opportunities for someone who wants to understand 3D printing?

Also which brand provides better customer service Creality or Bambu Lab? Which one would you recommend and why?

Prices

(Bambu Lab A1: 26,000 < Creality SPARKX i7: 26,800 )

Need Advice getting my first 3d Printer

I am getting my first 3d printer and I am considering the new p2s as a good starting point. My major work would involve integrating it into my studio (I mainly work with immersive installations and custom solutions for creative advertising and marketing; I make custom parts for pcb's and components for integration; and I am venturing into designer lamps, so I am considering this printer to be a part of the prototyping process)

Would the P2S be a good start, or should I be looking at other options, considering this room won't have active air ventilation

CTC Dual makerbot clone… keep upgrading or get rid of it?

This was my first ever 3d printer. I have other more modern printers now but I thought it would be fun to upgrade. I installed a PEI spring steel plate on the bed, replaced the mightyboard a thermocouples with a modern board and thermisors, installed klipper, added CHT nozzles to increase the flow rate. now able to print PLA at around 150mm/s. I was hoping it would be usable for dual colour prints or second material supports, but it seems like the dual nozzles are slightly misaligned.

do I keep finagling it and try to make it a decent printer? or cut my losses and give up? If you think I should keep it what else should I do to upgrade it? Answers on a postcard!

Help me decide my next printer

Hi, I'm looking to buy a new printer because I want something bigger than my A1 Mini. I'm not sure which one to get, but I've been looking a lot at the P1S and P2S, and I'm torn between the two.

I can get a P1S Combo for around €600, or a P2S without AMS for the same price, so I'm not sure which one to choose. I rarely do multicolour prints, but I do switch between different materials and colours quite often.

I've also been looking at the Elegoo CC2 and Creality K2, but I don't know if they're any good.

Thanks!

Where to put my new 3d printer

I got Elegoo centauri carbon 2 and I got 3 choices to place the printer
First my room but as I read is the worst ideas cause the fumes
Second my basement but I am feared about the humidity
And last I got a small room next to my house with 2 holes at the walls.
How bad is humidity for the printer?
In the second choice it can get like 70%
And in the last 70-80%
