Hoping to get into 3D printing with Black Friday deals, which printer should I get?

I've been lurking around here for a bit, and have a basic idea of what I want to get. I'm mainly looking at Bambu's P2S or X2D, since I want to start with a fairly capable machine that I can grow into.

Bambu's sale will start next week, and the P2S ($450) is a lot cheaper than the X2D ($590) with the coupon I got by subscribing to their store. My budget is around $500. For those who got the X2D, how useful is the second nozzle for you? Is it easy to use for a beginner?

Also do you have any recs for starter filaments? I'm quite tempted to try the PLA surprise box they offer, it's only around 40 bucks.

Printer options

My first post here and I’ll be honest haven’t read the forum yet, but figured I would start off asking as I look around.

We are looking at getting a 3d printer for my 10 year olds sons bday.

We would like to know the best middle of the line option. Like not the best of the best, but not looking for cheap and unreliable.

Thank you

Which Multi Nozzle Printer Should I Get?

Looking to get a Multi Nozzle printer. Not sure which to get. I started my 3d Printer journey with an Ender series years ago. Then purchased an AD5X, then another. Got a K1 Max then K2 Pro. I have been happy with them all but actually preferred my Creality printers because of the community and Creality Cloud. Which printer do y'all think would be best and why between the new K3, Flashforge Creator 5 or SnapMaker U1? I hear good and bad about the C5 and U1. There's always critics. And the K3 is just too new to tell.

Designed a single-piece cat feeder with two deep paw wells — first print worked

I wanted my cat to practise reaching in and scooping food out, so I made a feeder with two open wells and a catch plate. He already rolls and taps his other feeders, but this gives him a different action.

The narrower well has a 40 mm opening and a shorter reach; the wider one has a 52 mm opening and a deeper reach. I reduced the original three-well idea to two to give him more plate space while keeping the print under 90 g.

The first full print came out cleanly and works well with him. It’s one piece on one plate, with no supports, moving parts, assembly or added hardware. I printed it on an A1 in matte PLA at 0.20 mm layers. The slicer estimates 77.2 g and 1 h 36 min.

Free files, the tested A1 profile and a short video showing him retrieving kibble from both wells: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3476426-deep-paw-wells-cat-puzzle-feeder

The dimensions fit my cat; check paw clearance and supervise initial use with yours. I’d be interested in how different cats approach the two wells.

Still new to 3D printing — here’s my collection so far! What could I improve?

Here’s almost everything I’ve printed so far — decorative pieces, practical items and mechanical fidgets 😄 Really enjoying my Bambu Lab A1 Combo, and CyberBrick has made capturing timelapses so much easier!

If you’re curious how the mechanical models move, I share demos and printing timelapses on my YouTube channel: youtube.com/@M3Xstudiolab

I’m still learning, so any advice or constructive criticism on the prints is welcome!

Hey all. I designed these to use them as mini gifts for my children’s friends. They are super easy to print even without an AMS.

What do you think? Any suggestions are welcome!

Creality K2 Combo (€545) vs Bambu Lab P2S Combo — which would you recommend for a beginner?

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to buy my first 3D printer and I’m trying to decide between the Creality K2 Combo and the Bambu Lab P2S Combo.

The Creality K2 Combo is available to me for around €545, including 4 additional RFID PLA rolls, while the Bambu Lab P2S Combo costs around €739.

I mainly want to print practical things for my home and workshop, such as:

  • Tool holders and organizers
  • Brackets and mounts
  • Bicycle storage accessories
  • Other useful DIY projects, as well as some fun prints

I’m a beginner, so I care about reliability, print quality, ease of use, and how much maintenance or troubleshooting is required. I’d rather spend time printing than constantly fixing the printer.

I live in a studio apartment with an open kitchen and living room, so ventilation and emissions are also important considerations.

For those who own or have used either printer:

  1. Is the Bambu Lab worth the extra €194, especially for a beginner?
  2. How reliable are the printers in everyday use? Any recurring problems?
  3. How beginner-friendly is the software and overall printing experience?
  4. Is Creality’s software and support still noticeably behind Bambu Lab?
  5. Would you choose differently if most of your prints were functional parts rather than multicolor models?
  6. Would you recommend either printer for use in a studio apartment, assuming appropriate ventilation?

I’m happy to hear about real-world experiences, long-term reliability, and things you wish you had known before buying.

Creality K2 Combo
Bambu P2S Combo

Which one would you choose, and why? Thanks!

41 prototypes later, my quote wheel desk buddy finally works

Spin the wheel, press the button to stop it, and read the quote. The tiles slide off so you can swap in your own. The hardest part was getting the stop button to work. That took about 20 of the 41 tries.

First Printer for Family - (Bambu Labs X2D Combo vs FlashFlashforge Creator 5 Pro)

Hello -

I am looking into purchasing my first 3D printer during the black friday sales coming up. I am currently looking at the Bambu Labs X2D Combo at $789.00, the P2S combo at $649, and the FlashFlashforge Creator 5 Pro at $799 (looks like you can get down to $719 with sale code and referral code).

Part of the reason I want to get a 3D printer is so I can create things with my kids (Elementary School age). I have heard that Bambu Lab printers are the easiest to use so I thought that would be great for my kids. Additionally, I like the Flashforge because it would be easier to do multi-colored prints for toys and such (for example my son loves Spiderman and it seems like you would need at least two colors). Is the Bambu Labs “experience” that much better than Flashforge?

Are there any other printers you would recommend around that price range? Anything else I should consider?

Anycubic rocks!

I’m new to 3D printing but I’m sharing my experience for anyone who might be looking to buy one.

So I bought a printer for my daughters birthday but I didn’t notice until after Amazon’s return-window (i waited to open it since it was a gift) that it was missing parts—Teflon tubes and a purge wiper—and when they refused to help, I contacted the manufacturer. I didn’t actually think they’d do anything but they sent me the parts at no cost, wished my daughter a happy birthday, told her they were sorry, and to tell my cat, who photo-bombed the picture they requested of the printer, that they said hi. The whole interaction was really wholesome, which I rarely see from companies anymore.

Furthermore, when I got the parts and put them in, I realized that I neglected to notice the power cord wasn’t there either; it’s safe to say I felt really stupid. I bit the bullet, told them about the missing power cord, AND THEY SENT ME A POWER CORD, TOO!

I haven’t even** **gotten to use it yet but it’s the Kobra X which was recommended in the posts I was seeing when looking around so I’m sure it’ll be good. I just had to let people know that this company goes well-above and beyond for customers when most companies don’t even try anymore.
