I made this. Homemade zine shelf!!
Hi y'all! My partner and I made a zine shelf and are super stoked about how it turned out! I thought I would share!
We were inspired by a reddit user here who made a similar shelf, as well as user allison.nb on instagram. We definitely aren't carpenters, but we had a lot of fun building it and we definitely learned a lot.
We ended up using six 8' pine 1x2 boards and cutting them down to the sizes we needed with a miter saw. The shelf measures 5.5'x3.5'. We built the frame with an impact drill and wood screws, added the shelves inside, sanded it, and then stained it with a dark stain to match some of our other furniture. After the stain fully dried we used a polyurethane finish, which we let set completely before drilling holes through the center of each of the vertical boards and threading them with paracord. We mounted with L brackets and drywall screws in holes that we pre drilled.
In total, materials cost us around $90, and it took about a week of us working on and off to complete.
Most of the zines here are from local art markets or zine fests in the North Texas area. There are some of my own handmade ones, as well as some trades I've done in the mail and ones I've printed from the internet on here as well.
Thanks for looking! <3
