Oh yeah, that 0-60 time totally checks out. You can just jet-wash every car, pedestrian, whatever is behind you into oblivion, those are just poor people that don't really matter. NHTSA is totally cool with compressed air gimmick cars loaded with 3,000+ PSI pressure tanks blasting their way around the public highway system. This is totally plausible and not at all another one of Elon's stupid public stunts meant to generate investor-hype from dimwitted cuk-simp investors. It's a real thing, and those windows weren't overly tinted to stop you from seeing the interior of the car, which not completely full of tanks for a one-time BS demo. Not at all. It's all real, and Elon is a genius.

This is a cool trick for a car in a movie, but it would never be safe to allow on the road. I don't understand why Tesla stopped developing new models that would sell and be profitable. A Sprinter type transport/delivery van. A mid size traditional pickup. Motorcycles. I think they abandoned their core business to play games and burn money.

Teslas product is their stock
45
u/Bluegrass6 16h ago
I work for a not sexy publicly traded company ans our stock is also our product. In large companies there's a stratification of the customer base. My customers are the people buying, selling and using our products. My bosses boss and above have a different customer.....shareholders. If you ever question decisions made by large corporations and believe them to be bad business decisions, remember it is being done for shareholders not for the actual customer
16
u/tankerkiller125real 14h ago
The funny part is that long term doing right by the customers that use the product tends to result in better results for the shareholder.

Ideally managers' and customers incentives align. I know reddit does not believe that at all, but Ford lasted the previous 123 years by selling cars and trucks people chose to buy and that is a fact. This stunt is amazing but yeah the gulf between it and why somebody would buy a car is massive.
7
u/Bankerag 14h ago
When the idea of Shareholder Value as a guiding corporate principle took over, the goals of the two groups diverged.
Maximizing short term profits, which is the effect of adopting shareholder value as a goal, means that you no longer care about the customer experience or quality of the product.
You care about hitting a revenue and profit target for next quarter and that’s all you focus on.
The decline in service and quality products across the spectrum can almost universally be traced back to this idea.
Boeing killed people chasing profits. And they are not alone.
→ More replies (1)6
u/LostEnd 15h ago
The thing is nobody cares about lasting 123 years. It's all about getting your stocks higher and then jump to something else.

This stunt was just that, a stunt. The car basically achieved instant lift with just gas thrusters. Since that is the case I highly doubt it was an actual "Telsa" with a battery. It was a stripped down shell of a car not a nearly 2 ton EV.

They "just" used the tech from a moon rover, amped it up, pressed it into their concept car and made it do this trick for the presentation, this is not going to be in the car, it is just marketing and synergy when you have both a car and a space company. Not shitting on the engineers, still pretty impressive but it has nothing to do with the actual production vehicle. Also Elon is a cunt regardless of course.

Same as all the other cars that did it before. It's not amazing this "could be done." No physical laws were broken. It's amazing they did it. It shows that some cylinders are firing in and between these companies.
25
u/LittleKittenR 15h ago
EVERY single car company that sells in America and Europe stopped making "cheap" cars because they cost basically the same to make as expensive luxury cars... (the infotainment system is not that expensive to invest for a 5x-10x sale price)... and they all cartel decided that they were going to make only luxury cars now.
Specially because the infotainment system has a "becomes shit date" that bluetooth players without lcd screens doesn't have.
They literally had the worst year yet because the market, instead of going in and accepting it another year in a row just decided they can't AFFORD tu buy new LUXURY cars with an expiration date.
It's so weird. I own a 2004 Toyota that does everything just fine that I used for about 20 years.
The new one is fine but a light went out and it's 300 dollars to change because it's a "led" but... 300 dollars??? Come on.
15
u/MeatyMcWagon 13h ago edited 12h ago
yeeeeah NGL those infotainment centers annoy the shit out of me.
Example: Rented a 2026 Mazda CX-5 for a trip. Had a lot of bells and whistles. The "Infotainment center" takes up the entirety of the middle console. The only analogue button is the damn hazard lights. Everything else is incorporated into that bigass screen. And I'm sorry but I can't take my eyes off the road long enough to adjust the environmental controls. I should be able to reach my hand down and change the temp without needing to take my eyes off the road. And don't get me started about the frickin' sun glare off the screen.
People are distracted enough with phones. Now they're building distraction devices into the car. It's ridiculous.

As a happy 2016 Mazda CX-5 owner, that giant screen is why we now have a 2026 Subaru Forester on the driveway instead of a new CX-5.
Although, the eye sight stuff in Subaru yells at me any time I try and find stuff on it's giant screen, although it does at least have a few useful buttons and dials.

Just look at any Tesla product which came after the model x. Clearly there is a brain trust thing going on at Tesla HQ. They've exhausted everything eberhand, tarpenning and gang envisioned but have failed to iterate on them. And evidently, they are very content with their situation as year after year, despite losing almost every inch of ground to competitors, their share value and payouts have appreciated. People are not buying TSLA because they'll be mad profitable or revolutionize anything, but because they expect to sell their shares at even more inflated prices

I bet they did everything they could to make this car as light as possible. Like just one motor, just enough battery to get it rolling, no interior or safety items, and I doubt those thrusters could do that for any real amount of time. If Tesla's "unveiling" history is anything to draw a conclusion from, nothing here is what it seems.
22
u/Material-Home-5839 17h ago
My thoughts too.
- This is just one of Tesla's 'Keep Elon busy' projects, the same thing all his companies do to keep him out of their hair. (remember launching a roadster into space, anyone?)
- Just imagine the liability if it did work. The car launches itself over an accident into a tree, a building, an overpass. And this is to say nothing of any items inside flying around causing injury. Tesla could generate enough power to feed the entire tesla fleet just based on the spinning of heads from every lawyer who take a look at this.

So let's recap Elon scaled up the golf car, stuck a fan on there based on what F1 did, and then fired compressed air shots tied to an accelerometer/gyro. This is not impressive this is just pointless. Let us stop treating this moron like some visionary and more like just a moron.
