Before heading to the polls:
1. Check your voter registration.
The State of Texas has recently had issues when it comes to voter registrations being randomly suspended or delayed. To make sure that your registration is up to date, we invite you to check: https://teamrvmvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do
The registration deadline for this election was October 5, 2026. If you registered before the deadline but aren't sure about your status, verify it in the website above.
2. Bring an acceptable form of identification.
A Texas driver's license, ID card, or U.S. passport are among the accepted forms of photo ID.
If you don't have an acceptable photo ID and cannot reasonably obtain one, Texas has alternative ID'ing procedures. See here: https://www.votetexas.gov/voting/need-id.html
3. Make sure you're voting in the correct county.
Attending UTRGV doesn't automatically mean you're registered in Hidalgo or Cameron County. Your voting location depends on where you're registered, not where you attend classes.
4. Look up your sample ballot.
The November 3 election includes races for Texas Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, the Texas Legislature, and various judicial and local offices. Your specific ballot depends on your registered voting address.
5. Voting by mail? The deadline for election officials to receive applications for a ballot by mail is Friday, October 23. Texas has eligibility requirements for voting by mail.

A reminder:
Whether you're voting for the first time or have voted in previous elections, take some time to review what's on your ballot and familiarize yourself with the process.
You don't need to wait until November 3rd. Early voting gives you multiple days to find a time that works around classes, work, and commuting, and you get to skip a long line!
