Personal best so far is 92 wpm with 94% accuracy. The biggest challenge is not feeling the keys, but another issue I have is that once I mess up it's like I panic and just continue messing up.
got 147 on my alt account on accident and was both bummed and happy that i got a new peak; not too long after i hit 150 with 100% accuracy on my main!!!
I've been trying to improve my typing speed, but I keep catching myself looking at the keyboard. I want to learn touch typing so I can type faster and more accurately without looking at the letters
Please tell me which website you used for touch typing in free help me
I have rather stiff and tender hands in the morning before starting work in an office. Does anybody have a good, battle-tested series of stretches and/or exercises to do before starting typing and working on my computer?
to be for real, i only just started measuring my wpm today! after browsing this sub for a bit i saw that everyone used monkeytype so i figured i'd try it out also :))
So I've been typing since I was a kid and I learned touch typing a few years ago. I just played games and never really focused on my speed and still could get around 90WPM on average. I started typing after joining this sub on websites like Monkeytype two months ago and couldn't get higher than 110WPM.
Saw a lot of advice on here like focusing on accuracy and speed would come itself. It kinda worked and after a few days, I got up to 114 100%. I was happy and thought it was working. Then I was stuck here for weeks again. Couldn't get higher. Saw another tip on here yesterday where the guy said to turn on blind mode and just type as fast as I can. The logic behind it was that I had to train my fingers to move faster too and purely focusing on accuracy wouldn't do that. I followed it and I instantly got upto 119WPM 97%. Turned my laptop off and tried again today and I already felt my speed increasing again. Two tries later and I got this score.
The point of this post is I personally believe that it is a mixture of both focusing on accuracy while occasionally training your fingers to move faster too. This is the best tip for increasing speed in my opinion after trying to increase my speed for the last two months.
I'll also drop an update later if I see consistent increase in speed or hit a plateau.
I realized that I never use my right ring finger and pinky when I type. If I make an effort to keep my right hand on the home row, I can type with my ring finger, but when I try to type with my pinky I genuinely forget where all the keys are. I'm left-handed and injured my right index finger for a couple of months earlier this year, so that's possibly part of why I do this?
Anyway, is it worth it to relearn typing properly? I can generally type ~100 wpm with like 99% accuracy, but I'm afraid that my unconventional (wrong) way of typing will fail me at some point or is holding me back from typing better.
