Frequently Asked Questions / Posted Things and Some Reponses
- Is this good/great/nice/okay <for a X>?
- It really depends and it's not something we would care for you to post. Is it fast enough for you to do your work? Great, then it's good. Are you still struggling? Then it's not good. Keep practicing.
- Please do not share your age here. The internet is a dangerous place. This goes for everyone - whether you're young, or old. Just do not do it.
- Should I learn <proper/touch typing>?
- Most probably, yes. We have had this question asked so many times that it's pointless to ask again. Please use the search feature. If you are trying to convince yourself, then please just make the decision yourself instead of redirecting the decision making to other people.
- I made a <tool/game> to <learn/practice/compare> typing (or some variation, use your thinkmeats)
- Congratulations. Please don't post it here. We will remove it.
- My post about my <tool/game> was removed
- Yeah. Please don't modmail us about it, or we will probably ban you.
- I was banned and I hate the mods
- Alright. You can modmail us about it ONE TIME. If you spam us we will mute you forever and you will never be unbanned.
I think that covers it. I'll edit later if I think of something else.

šØš£ššš§š š» - š š¼š± š£š¼šš UPDATE: RULE 2 (Regarding AI-Content)
Ok, I'll admit it. I messed up
When re-molding the sub, we - as a MOD team have taken a strong stance against AI generated content (we still do)
The problem is that in doing so, many of you users have plugged genuinely fantastic sites (that use AI powered tools) that were inadvertently targeted for removal
We've been intentionally vague about what we decided to allow to be posted or linked on the sub (to combat spam)
However this has prevented many of you from interacting with the sub (which is the antithesis of learning how to type)
From now on we will be focused on removing AI based sites that are:
Low Effort (SLOP)
FOR PROFIT
Obvious Duplicate - 'Rip-off' sites (we're looking at you Monkeytype clones)
Contact the MOD team to ensure that your content is sub appropriate
TL;DR
Fewer restrictions (stronger enforcement)
AI content IS allowed, but will be critically assessed

š£šæš¼š“šæš²šš š / š¦šš®š šš®š¶š»š 𦾠My Experience With Actually Trying to Improve My Speed

So I've been typing since I was a kid and I learned touch typing a few years ago. I just played games and never really focused on my speed and still could get around 90WPM on average. I started typing after joining this sub on websites like Monkeytype two months ago and couldn't get higher than 110WPM.
Saw a lot of advice on here like focusing on accuracy and speed would come itself. It kinda worked and after a few days, I got up to 114 100%. I was happy and thought it was working. Then I was stuck here for weeks again. Couldn't get higher. Saw another tip on here yesterday where the guy said to turn on blind mode and just type as fast as I can. The logic behind it was that I had to train my fingers to move faster too and purely focusing on accuracy wouldn't do that. I followed it and I instantly got upto 119WPM 97%. Turned my laptop off and tried again today and I already felt my speed increasing again. Two tries later and I got this score.
The point of this post is I personally believe that it is a mixture of both focusing on accuracy while occasionally training your fingers to move faster too. This is the best tip for increasing speed in my opinion after trying to increase my speed for the last two months.
I'll also drop an update later if I see consistent increase in speed or hit a plateau.

š¤šš²ššš¶š¼š» (āļø) Whats everyones least favourite word to type?
For me it's probably "system". The back and fourth from "s" to "y" then straight to "t" is so awkward.

š¤šš²ššš¶š¼š» (āļø) Not using two fingers when typing
I realized that I never use my right ring finger and pinky when I type. If I make an effort to keep my right hand on the home row, I can type with my ring finger, but when I try to type with my pinky I genuinely forget where all the keys are. I'm left-handed and injured my right index finger for a couple of months earlier this year, so that's possibly part of why I do this?
Anyway, is it worth it to relearn typing properly? I can generally type ~100 wpm with like 99% accuracy, but I'm afraid that my unconventional (wrong) way of typing will fail me at some point or is holding me back from typing better.

š¤šš²ššš¶š¼š» (āļø) Is this good enough?
I'm in my second year of college majoring in a stem degree so obviously I'm using the computer alot. Honestly growing up I never used computers much so I'm just now getting into that stuff. For the past couple weeks I've dedicated my days to improving my typing speed but I'm still not satisfied. I have noticed improvement though since I used to average 25, now my average is around 45-50, I occasionally score in the 60s aswell. If there's any tips on how to improve please share.

šØ š”š²š²š± šš²š¹š½ / š¦š²š²šøš¶š»š“ šš±šš¶š°š² šš„ŗ Tips on how to type faster
I am learning touch typing for the first time and I also had few hunt and peck experiences. I have a tablet and a phone and there were very few instances where used physical keyboard of my cousins and use it to fill exam forms . But now I am learning touch typing from the past 8 days 20 minutes a day . But my speed is only 10 wpm although I know which finger control which keys and I don't look at the keyboard i have to subconsciously remind myself about the keys and finger to press it . Is it normal or am i too slow . what needs to be done . I am practicing from typing club and I am on lesson 119

š¤šš²ššš¶š¼š» (āļø) typing P with pinky finger
i recently learned touch typing about 2 weeks ago, now im consistently at 70-79 wpm, with a peak of 87wpm. I had a hard time typing word like "people", "public". some 'P' word I can type with no problem is "type" "plan", I don't know why that is, I'm stuck at 80wpm and can only go fast if there's no/ few 'P' letter. Is there a fix for this?

šØ š”š²š²š± šš²š¹š½ / š¦š²š²šøš¶š»š“ šš±šš¶š°š² šš„ŗ Something wrong with the way I type?
This is how I type as of now, and I average about 71-75 wpm with about 90% and above accuracy, plus I can type with my eyes closed.
However, I get tired quickly when typing and sometimes I stumble which forces me to rewrite the same word a few times before I get it. Plus, my typing feels sluggish and slow. How can I improve?
(I'm kind of stuck on only using my thumb to ring finger, I cant seem to use my pinky no matter how hard I try) (Oh and also I don't have a proper keyboard, only a laptop)

šØ š”š²š²š± šš²š¹š½ / š¦š²š²šøš¶š»š“ šš±šš¶š°š² šš„ŗ Didn't realize there was a wrong way to type until I stumbled onto this subreddit
After seeing a post, I got curious and started scrolling, I noticed that most people were typing a certain way, and that it was entirely different from how I have my entire life. I saw the "corrent hand placement" chart, so I tried to do typing tests using that method, 5 minutes in and my right wrist is extremely sore and I had to take a break. Is that a normal issue to have, and I just need to work through it? I would say I basically only type with my index fingers, and mostly with my left hand. I wouldn't have cared initially, however another thing I noticed, was how high the wpm scores and accuracy % were, on this sub, and just googling, and at best, I'm getting like 50-60 wpm with like a ~75% accuracy, which I'd say accurately reflects my everyday typing experience. I'm so used to thinking of the words in my head when I type, so I can look at my keyboard the whole time, but in a test, I can't really look away from the screen, so I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing.
Basically, is it worth persuing "fixing" my typewriting or is it fine as is?
I broke my wrist when I was a kid, it was treated properly, and is to have supposedly healed, but I'm throwing that out there, cause of the extreme soreness in my right wrist specifically.
