Looking to purchase an “entry-level” setup with a budget of around $500 USD but hoping to have a system that is still high quality and reliable for around 5-10 years until I can have a custom Hi-Fi setup without cost restraints.
For my budget (and impatience) it seems like buying a turntable with a built-in phono preamp and powered speakers is the best route. FB Marketplace and thrifting vintage setups don’t appear to be quick resolution in my area and buying a complete used vintage system online is more expensive than buying entry-level equipment.
From research I am leaning towards getting the Fluance RT81+ with Edifier R1700BTs, which is around $550 but hoping to wait until Black Friday for potential deals. Other turntable options seem to be the AT-LP70X or U-Turn Orbit Basic w/ phono preamp but it seems like the features and upgraded cartridge (VM95E) of the RT81+ are worth the extra money.
If going above the original budget for the RT81+, is it worthwhile to go with the RT82 and a preamp? Is the better motor/speed sensor worth the additional cost of a preamp?
The setup will be in a small living room.
Does this sound like a solid plan? Are there any other turntable and powered-speaker combinations around this budget that offer better value or performance?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice!
