What’s the nicest town on a Metro North line (for trail runners!)

I asked this question in another subreddit, but figured I'd get a bit more specific with this crowd:

We're big trail runners so just having "outdoor access" is a bit of a red herring: we want trails with up and down stuff and places to let the stoke fly within a ~2 hour train ride from New York for commuting purposes.

Curious if anyone in here has any experiences/suggestions! (FYI we're currently in Western Mass, which is fantastic, but job stuff may require us to be a little more conveniently located to NYC).

Zero-Gravity Chairs

I’ve noticed while watching the backyard ultra livestreams, a lot of athletes use the “zero-gravity” chairs. A lot of different brands and price ranges come up on Google…

Anyone have a recommendation?

Portland, Oregon

I'll be in Portland, OR for 4 days for work. Looking up on alltrails.com, I found tons of amazing trails to check out.

Since I'll be staying with friends across the Columbia in Vancouver, I was wondering what would you recommend in a radius of a 20 minutes drive?

The weather looks ideal btw. You guys are lucky.

PS: I'd happy with scenic routes in the city as well.

Headlamp on a budget

Hi there. I'm looking for a universal headlamp on a budget for hiking and running. I had HL900 from Decathlon, which costs 45 euros at the moment. I'd say it ticks all the boxes as it has removable battery and an adapter for AAA batteries, so basically if you're in a pinch, you can swap rechargable battery with pair of AAAs. It also has an option to tilt down, so at least for me it was a nice thing to shine the light downwards and not blast someone's face on accident. The thing is - I lost the head lamp and I'm thinking is there a better alternative for this price point? Main downside for me was that for running it felt a bit heavy and I had to strap it a bit harder, which didn't feel that comfortable.

Need advise on how to deal with changing terrain. Road to park, off trail (?)

I've only just completed my second short run, and albeit me saying two days ago that I hate running, I figured that I need waterproof running shoes that can deal with running up and down some grassy slopes in the park if I want to keep going and be gentle on my joints (more fun too btw). That said, I also need to get to said park, which is about 0.7 miles away. I've read that trail running shoes wear off on concrete, and I also do not want to slip on wet leafy streets when jogging to the park.

So, my question is: Should I buy a rucksack for dedicated trail running shoes, or can trail running shoes handle short distances on concrete?

I've come across trainers that try to bridge the gap (Hoka Challenger / Brooks Cascadia), but I'm not sure if they can handle grassy slopes and muddy bits.

Open to recommendations, ideally wide fit 😅

Long story short, UK based runner and there is some gear i want to buy from trailrunningstore, but they are Canadian and only ship to Canada.

If you're in Canada, and happy to have me order something to you, then shipped to the UK, please DM me.

Just want to dispell some misconceptions about this little corner of the world.

SEI is a treasure for single track and preserved spaces. Yeah our neighbors up north get weird AF.

But we are only associated by zip code...

Had a successful third 50K. Same race 2 years ago was my first 50K. Underestimated the training required (specifically strength training) and hit a wall of depression a couple weeks before the race, and didn't run for 2 weeks leading into the race. I destroyed my quads before the last loooong descent and ended up death marching the last several miles to the end. I finished, but nowhere near a time I had hoped for.

Second 50K, I had heinous gut issues for the middle 20 miles that made just walking downhill a miserably painful experience. I finished, but with a little disappointment that I wasnt able to give it a full effort. I also crashed my bike 3 days before and had quite a hip bruise. I didnt notice it during the run. Maybe due to the gut pain. Maybe because it wasn't a factor. Either way, it wasn't the result i was hoping for.

Yesterday was a repeat of the same 50K from 2 years ago (in my hometown). Training was much better (i did actual strength training, loads of hill repeats, and honed my downhill running). I also had a much better strategy with the experience of a couple 50s under my belt. I way under fueled in the last 5 miles but overall, super pumped about the results.

Windproof over pants

Any recommendations for mens windproof overpant? Worn over shorts or tights for high summits. Stashable. Ankle zips or poppers. Waist drawcord. Not looking for waterproofs.

A 5-ish (closer to 6) mile race with 1200 feet of ascent. That's probably not much compared to other places, but for Illinois it's by far the hilliest I've ever done. Lots of walking and climbing, but sooo much fun.
