Hello engineers π
I just published the initial version (v0.1.0) of RepoTrace to PyPI!
If youβve ever spent time manually reconstructing function state or setting up scratch scripts just to reproduce a production crash, RepoTrace is built to solve that exact workflow bottleneck. It acts as a local "flight recorder" for Python applications capturing runtime failures alongside exact execution context.
π€ Developers & Open-Source Contributors Welcome!
If u are interested in Python developer tooling, testing automation, or building open source, I'd love ur feedback, stars, and contributions!
π GitHub: https://github.com/BiTech5/repotrace
π¦ PyPI: pip install repotrace
Feedback, suggestions, and PRs are all welcome!
What it does today:
ποΈ capture β run a failing command and store the exact argv, exit code, stdout/stderr, working directory, and host metadata as a structured JSON bug report.
ποΈ list / show β inspect everything you've captured.
ποΈ replay / replay-all β re-run recorded commands later and get an honest answer on whether the failure still reproduces.
ποΈ report β render a Markdown report, optionally with the replay verdict baked in.
ποΈ generate β emit a standalone pytest regression test you can commit, with no RepoTrace dependency at runtime
πΊοΈ Next Up
ποΈ Auto-Generating pytest Files: Turning crash logs straight into executable test scripts.
ποΈ Isolated Replay: Running generated tests in safe subprocesses to verify fixes.
