Healing Is my white ink disappearing after just one week?

Hi everyone! I got this tattoo on October 14th, so it’s been exactly one week.

I’ve noticed that most of the white ink, which was clearly visible when the tattoo was fresh, seems to have almost completely disappeared.
I know it’s still healing, but I’m a little concerned about how much the white has faded in such a short time.

Is this normal during the healing process? Could the white become more visible once it’s fully healed, or does it look like I’ll need a touch-up?

I’ve attached photos from the day I got it and from today for comparison.

Thanks in advance!

Don’t mind the ink leaks or my dog licking my foot while I tried to take these lol

I think my artist did a really good job on the sides and front, but I’m not sure about the back, I also feel like some of the rocks kinda look strange but that could be the ink leaks too.

I’d love some advice on if I should get the piece worked on more or any other options you guys might have, kinda hoping that hair growth back over it will help

General Advice Folks with jobstoppers, how much have they uh… stopped your jobs?

I am an old man by Reddit standards. When I got my forearm tattooed it was still considered pretty crazy, “you’ll never get hired my man.” Fortunately, I’ve been hired many a time with little struggles.

Nowadays, the kind of stuff I’ve got is common place. I’ve been considering my hand for quite a while. For all y’all with so called jobstoppers, has it seemed to have affected your hireability?

tattoo newcomer advice How will a tattoo in this style age?

Hello,

There’s an artist in my city who does this style of tattoo I really love, translucent black flowers, but I’m not sure how it would look as it ages. Any ideas? My fear is that because there aren’t a lot of hard lines it would blur and fade until it doesn’t look good any more. However I have no experience with tattoos so I really have no idea.

Thanks!

The first is the original tattoo and the second is 10 years later.

Was it a bad tattoo to begin with and did it age well?

I love the tattoo regardless, I'm just curious.

General Advice How did you decide your first tattoo??

I am 25, when I was a teenager I could see myself getting tattoos and being 'cool'. Well according to teen me im not cool bc i have none. My partner has +10 tattoos and supports and encourages me to get some. But I just dont know what to do?

I have some interests but I cant think of a design that doesnt give off like "fan girl" vibes? I really like space but Im not a fan of the generic astronaut floating in a galaxy. I like 21 pilots, but all the desings id love in middle school, not now lol. I have no idea what to get what to think of.

How did you pick your first design? I'm more so interested in experiences of people who were unsure of it all as I have zero knowledge and zero experiance, a lot of interest tho

Healing Regular milky phase or am i cooked?

This is my third tattoo, and my first with any greys involved. I colossally fucked up in several ways healing my first tattoo, so now I’m unfortunately super neurotic about healing this one. I wore the sandierm for like 5 days and it looked totally fine. Somewhere around day 10, some of the flaking started concerning me, and ink loss has been permeating my brain since when it comes to how faded these greys look rn. I’m on day 16 so I know I’m in the peak “ugly phase”, but I guess more eyes on this never hurts. I knew going in that fineline tattoos don’t age well but this seems frightening frankly. I’ve also used pea-size moisturizer twice a day this whole time. Anyone with more seasoned thoughts also concerned or just me?

Healing My first tattoo - how is it healing?

Got this BEAUTIFUL tattoo done almost 3 weeks ago. It’s my first tattoo so I’m not sure how it’s supposed to look. How much definition will it lose?

I’ve been following the artist’s instructions (washing 2 times a day for a week after saniderm removal, then a thin layer of unscented lotion). The healing process has been GREAT, no itching, barely any flaking.

First pic is directly after, the rest are from today (3 weeks in)

This is the best quality photo of it I could get! It’s still a bit blurry because I used my phones front facing camera. I’m really pleased with how it came out, but am worried that the shading will lose definition!

So I got this tattoo a little time ago, and something is just off with the arms and fingers? What could I put around, to take away some of the focus?
I have tattoos on both arms and legs, mostly blackwork and patchwork. Any advice would be great, thanks

General Advice Calf tattoo advice??

So, a while ago I got a tattoo on my shoulder (second pic, healing is going great!) and was going for a second one on my calf (first pic)

The thing is it was really painful and my leg kept spasming uncontrollably! My artist was super patient with me but ultimately I asked to schedule another day to finish it because I couldn’t take the shaking and pain any more

Is there anything I can do to prepare for my next appointment to avoid the spasming and help with the pain? Should I ask if I can lay down? Numbing cream? Tylenol?

This is my 3rd tattoo, I don’t have much tattoo experience

Both are healing good and I don’t have any other issues with it I just don’t know how to stop the shaking! It makes me so nervous about the tattoo getting messed up

General Advice Am I cooked? 🥲

I got this sword and crown tattoo months ago and immediately regretted it. I originally asked for just the sword and crown and the artist insisted on adding the outside parts, which is supposed to be like a patch with stitches along the sides. As you can see it looks like a damn cactus now, and imo the lines are horrible. It should have had the white outline around the edges of the inner image and especially along the hilt of the sword looks smudged. — anyway, it’s on me now.. is this fixable?

General Advice Is a cover up possible?

Thumbnail

Is it possible to cover up my entire left arm sleeve? The upper half was started about 4 months ago, but I’m unhappy with how it turned out. The candle drips look too creamy rather than realistic, and the transition between my other tattoo and the candles feels awkward, with barely any fading to blend everything together. I didn’t go back for the second session because I realized the artist’s style wasn’t what I wanted. The lower half is about 5 years old and is a religious piece. I grew up in a strict religious household and originally got it because I was worried about getting scolded for getting tattoos (i know i know). Over the years, I started researching the religion for myself and realized I didn’t agree with a lot of its beliefs. I’ve been considering covering up the lower half for years, and after doing more research recently, I’m confident it’s what I want. No disrespect to anyone’s beliefs, it’s just no longer something I personally connect with.
My right arm is almost fully done with the artwork i truly wanted now, and now its time for my left again & I’ve realized I prefer darker black-and-grey work with heavier shading. I’m open to going pretty dark if necessary. Do you guys think covering up both halves is realistically possible, and what kind of designs would work best? I’d appreciate any honest advice!

General Advice New tattoo

Hey guys, I had another session of my tattoo completed on Tuesday and idk whether it’s healing correctly?? The bit I had done this session was the negative space background work (hence the random plain swirly bits)
Disclaimer - I have quite a few tattoos and this piece has been 4 sessions so far, none of my other tattoos healed like this, and I have previously had a reaction to second skin so it hasn’t been used. Is it just because it’s such a large area and a significant amount of ink?

Design Tattoo Cover up Colorado

Hi!

Looking for some input! Do you think these two fine-line tattoos (fish + strawberry) could be covered with a floral design like the rough sketch I drew in ballpoint pen?

I’m not an artist, so I have no idea if the shape or coverage would actually work. The existing tattoos seem to have healed grey rather than solid black, and I really dislike how light and scratchy they look.

I’ve been struggling to find an artist who does cover-ups, so I’m curious if this is even a realistic idea before I keep searching!

Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from artists! 🌿

Also if anyone has recs in Colorado, I can travel anywhere in state!!(: thanks

tattoo newcomer advice Is my tattoo supposed to look like this?

Post image

I got it done Saturday morning about 4 days ago, took the second skin off yesterday and it came off fine, I’m noticing some cracking which I’m assuming is normal when it starts to heal, but what worries me is how much lighter the skin is under the cracks from what I can see. So my question is, is that normal? I’ve been washing and using lotion sense taking the second skin off how I’m supposed too. Also another question, during the next couple of days, is it a good idea to loosely put cling wrap around it? due to how I sleep, I wouldn’t want to mess it up

Design Ideas with how to carry on with left arm.

Good afternoon,
I’m wanting feedback on multiple things, but I’ll start off with the back ground first. 2 red spider Lillie’s and scorpion were originally tatted by an artist 5 years ago. New artist fixed a lot of errors with it so I believe it looks a lot better now. The new artist added two blue spider Lillie’s with the insects. I think they look stellar. It is a lot going on which I’m ok with. Now current artist and I are thinking that he could add shading on the skin that is showing. I’ kind of have mixed feeling. I like how the open skin allow the tattoo to pop in a way. Now, 1) what do we think about the overall tattoo? 2) should I continue with the insect and flower theme? (what I’m leaning towards atm) or maybe anime suggestions. I do watch a lot of anime and have some ideas. Please be honest with your feedback but not an a-hole about it. CREATIVE FEEDBACK IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!

Healing Is this small red spot just overworked?

Thumbnail

Got this tattoo last Friday (5 days ago) and we are currently in the ugly duckling phase of tattoo healing. It feels a bit dry even with me moisturizing the area 2x a day but otherwise fine. I’ve had this happen with another tattoo in the past and it healed up just fine, but is this area just overworked? It looks like it has a bit of a ‘cut’ where the ink is and it’s just a little red and angry. No heat around the area, and no discharge so I’m not worried about an infection. Just wondering if the artist overworked this particular spot.

(Picture of full + fresh tattoo included)

General Advice Am I Going Too Big?

Thumbnail

Working on a traditional leg sleeve and starting to wonder if I'm going about it wrong size-wise.

Pretty much everything I have so far is big. The skull and rose are healed, the mandala/eagle over my knee is new from last week so it's still peeling in the pics.

I like the pieces, not regretting them or anything, I went big on purpose. I just keep thinking am I gonna run out of space quick and wish I had mixed in some smaller stuff? Or is it gonna be a pain to fill in the gaps later and make it all look like it goes together?

For people who've actually finished a leg, did you do it like this or go more patchwork with smaller pieces? Would you do the same thing again?

Curious what other people think, I like how it's coming out so far I'm just thinking ahead to the rest of the leg.

Design Need help thinking through a design

This will be my first tattoo. I don’t want anything too big or in color. I’m not 100% sure about placement yet. I’m leaning towards Tricep, forearm, or lower leg.

Just some context of what I’m thinking. I lost my dad, uncle, and grandfather to suicide within a five year stretch. Each of them struggled with addiction. I’d love to do something that just signifies resilience. A reminder to push through life and adversity despite everything thrown at me. I hope that makes sense. Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance!

Healing When does the shedding end?

Thumbnail

It's been 8 days since I got this tattoo. Took the second skin after 3 days. It started shedding around day 4 or 5.

I've gone down to washing it once or twice a day and moisturising twice a day. Other than that I'm not touching it.

Does it look okay? Should I be moisturising less or more?
