Mod Announcement Scar tattoos

Post image
5.5k Upvotes

Im honestly getting tired of saying this. Scars are a normal part of healing and a normal part of our bodies. Healed scars no matter what are not nfsw. Yes this includes if they haven't fully faded yet and some scars dont fade. We will not make people censor their bodies. We will not make people be ashamed of their bodies.

Ask yourselves would you walk up to a person irl and tell them to cover up? I really hope you wouldn't.

If you are triggered by scars or the idea of sh scars that is on you to take care of. It is not the responsibility of others to have to hide thier bodies because you are uncomfortable. If that means you need to take a step back and not be in the the sub or on reddit for a while then do what you need to do. You are not entitled to shame or censor the bodies of others. For the people talking about kindness it is not kind to censor other people's bodies.

We have started removing posts that are telling people to mark their scar posts as nsfw under our rules for being disrespectful as that is exactly what it is.

This sub is about tattoo which are inherently intimate topic because it is on people's bodies. They are used by people to express themselves. So you are gonna see all kinda of scars here.

We also aren't gonna stop the posts either. Most questions are repeats if we did that we would be banning every post.

This is not up for debate.

Edit: fixed typos

I have seen a lot of these posts lately. First please read the rules of the sub before posting.

Pricing can be found out by talking to the artist and only you can determine how much you want to pay for the tattoo.

Healing How badly overworked is this?

Post image
967 Upvotes

I got this the day before yesterday and the pain has been severe. On the advice of a friend of a friend who is a tattoo artist, I went to urgent care today and was prescribed cephlaxin and mupirocin ointment. The tattoo was a cover up of stuff from years ago and my friend's friend thinks it was seriously overworked. I'm hoping there's still a chance it might heal okay. Just wondering if anyone has had experience with this.

Healing Is this bad? Why is it blurry?

Post image

Hello folks! This is my second tattoo I’ve gotten. Now it’s just over 2 weeks old. It’s from a pretty popular artist and I was really excited about the design, but now I’m still a little concerned that it looks kind of faded and blurry. Am I just tripping? Should I be worried or go back and get it touched up? I appreciate any advice!

Infected? Is this a reaction to second skin or something worse?

Post image

Hi, this is my first tattoo and I’m not sure if this is a reaction to the second skin that was used or something worse?
The redness started about the morning after taking the second skin off and seems to follow where the second skin was. (Around 4 days post tattoo)

Healing Armpit Tattoo

I’m getting one of these tattoo in my armpit. I scheduled an appointment for this tattoo before but change locations. I’m getting this tomorrow.
I have multiple tattoos and am aware of what I’ve signed up for. I would like to hear about the healing process for this location.
What was your experience like? Should I know something I haven’t thought of?
I’m prepared for no deodorant until it’s healed (obviously). Washing multiple times a day.
I am a pretty sweaty person so I’m getting nervous about the healing.
The tattoo will be black and white.

General Advice 2 week ish old tattoo

Got this 4 x 4 scratchy done Oct 6th. All my other tattoos are much smaller and not filled in like this one, so I'm not sure what to expect as it heals. I went through the peeling phase already, but it feels raised and overall looks/feels very dry. My artist said to wash and use a light layer of lubriderm lotion. Should I be doing anything else at this point? Thanks for the advice!

General Advice Me and my best friend got matching tattoos and we don’t love them.

We got completely carried away by how cute all of the flashes were (and how the one we chose had meaning to us), that we forgot to check the artists experience.

She seems to be starting out so the lines aren’t great and the stencil looked different from what we actually got. To me it honestly felt like just a tracing situation than an actual drawing of the stencil and bird.

I know tattoos need to be completely healed to get them laser removed, but my question is:

“is there a way to make them start to fade away while they’re still in their healing process?”

We got them about three days ago now.

Any help is appreciated, we’re not new to tattoos, but definitely got caught up in the whole “hey there’s a pop-up tattoo at this event, we should get these since we want matching ones!”

To me the eyes and face seem to be whats bothering me the most. They look more cartoonish rather than real.

Added pictures of both tattoos and the stencil for reference.

Out of my 9 tattoos, I've never had reddening of any kind around aside from general line work. This was taken shortly after leaving the shop.

It's a local and respected artist, I have 4 done by him so I trust his work and cleanliness.

General Advice Tattooing and Ocd

I’ve been in the tattoo industry for three years and I’ve been tattooing for two and a half years. Within that time i’ve been able to establish a pretty solid clientele, and I feel like i’ve put everything into my job, and that it’s fully become my life. I’m so grateful for everything tattooing has brought, and it’s genuinely been my dream job since childhood. The issue is i’ve also had ocd my whole life; and most of my compulsions are centered around contamination and they have now shifted to focusing around my career. it’s the act of tattooing and dealing with blood, needles, as well as hyper fixing on every single piece i do and hating it. it’s been like this since the first tattoo ive done, and i thought it would get easier, but instead recently it’s become extremely unbearable. I’m at a crossroads since all i ever have wanted to be is a tattoo artist, and i am so in love with tattoos and tattooing, but recently especially the act of tattooing has been eating me alive. i want this to be for me, i’ve never wanted anything as much, but im afraid that maybe this isn’t for me. I’m debating on taking some time off to focus on my mental health and try to recover since it’s not only tattooing ocd, but my ocd in general has been absolutely unbearable, i feel like im constantly suffocating and going to be sick. i also don’t want to do anything rash, i keep telling myself that maybe this could just be a tiny break, and i can always come back once im mentally doing better, but i still feel like a complete failure and i can’t get over not being a tattoo artist anymore. If anyone has some experience with this, or general advice it would be appreciated.

General Advice Will numbing cream prevent a vasovagal response?

Post image
654 Upvotes

I have around 8 tattoos on various parts of my body (side of and above the knee, shoulder, most of my forearm, collarbone, back of my arm, etc.), and today I went in to get a tattoo on the underside of my wrist.

Not even 5 minutes in, I had a vasovagal response, which I’ve only had once before when I was having an IV inserted into the top of my hand. Super not fun, but I would really like to go back and finish the tattoo.

Would numbing cream possibly prevent this response? I know it affects the tattoo process, but I care less about that and more about not having just a line on my wrist lol.

***Included the tattoo I was going to get for placement reference

Edit: All of the advice is suuuuper helpful! I made sure to eat, but maybe I should have had more, and will definitely be lying down next time.

Design Will people assume it's a loved one's name?

I'm planning to get the text above tattooed. It's in reference to the kid's movie Matilda, and it's the font they used for the title of the movie.

It just hit me that this might look like a tattoo dedicated to someone. Do you think it will, and do you think it will be much of an issue if it does?

tattoo newcomer advice Never got color done before, is this the normal process?

I have 4 small (palm-sized and smaller) black and gray tattoos. I am now getting a full color patchwork sleeve done, had my first session yesterday with an experienced but new to me artist. My artist started by designing a section at the top of my arm and a section on the top forearm. He did the outline of both designs, and said they should heal for 30 days and then I could come back for color and shading. Is this how it normally works? I was expecting to leave the session with one full color section complete, not two outlined sections. I'm not at all upset, just curious.

The ink fell out and it’s now tender and scabby. I’ve been cleaning it regularly. Do I need to go to a walk in clinic or should I wait it out? Any over the counter medicine you’d recommend?

General Advice Feeling a little naked, any suggestions?

Post image
• Upvotes

I'm unsure as to what direction to go next for my tattoo. I like the asymmetry of keeping one side of my body tattooed. For the time being I'm going to forego any work on my arms or neck/upper chest, but I wanted to get something done on my torso. I was thinking of doing a try climbing up my torso on the same side as my current tattoo, with branches to sort of cover the more naked area between my tattoo and shoulder. Possibly in like a bold blackwork style? I'm not sure if that would look well with some of the finer line work of the current tattoo.

I'm going to keep lurking for ideas but any suggestions would be much appreciated :) thanks
