How To [Task Share] Universal Search... and much more!

A floating utility to search and get actionable results across a variety of categories across your device.

Categories:

Categories (📱 Apps, 👤 Contacts, 📁 Files, ⚡ Quick Actions, 🌐 Web) only appear when you start typing and when they have matching results. Each category displays a colour-coded header, a badge count, up to 3 items, and a ▼ Show X more... Material pill button to expand the full list.

Rich Material 3 UI & Pill Buttons: Every result card uses rounded Material 3 style containers, real App Icons for installed applications, colour-coded File Type Pills (PDF, IMG, TXT, DOC), and dedicated Action Pills (📞 Call, 💬 SMS, ✉️ Email) for contacts depending on which data fields exist for that person.

Tasker Tasks:

⚡ TASKER TASKS Category - Automatically discovers all your named Tasker Tasks by reading Tasker's content://net.dinglisch.android.tasker/tasks provider and parsing Tasker's internal configuration XML (databackup.xml / userbackup.xml) directly inside Tasker's sandbox.

Matching Tasks appear under ⚡ TASKER TASKS with a ▶ Run Task pill button. Tapping a task invokes tasker.callTask(taskName, null) to run it immediately!

Interactive Folder Picker & Settings Modal:

A ⚙️ Settings button to the top bar opens a Material 3 modal displaying all top-level folders on your internal storage (/storage/emulated/0/) as toggleable pill chips, plus a Custom Subfolder input box (e.g., Work/Projects) if you want to index a specific deep directory.

When you tap 💾 Save & Re-Index, your folder selections are saved to SharedPreferences and the SQLite cache rebuilds immediately.

Web results:

⚡ Instant Jump (I'm Feeling Lucky / DuckDuckGo ! Bang Routing): Clicking the first pill skips the search engine results page altogether and redirects your browser straight to the #1 top-ranked website for that term.

📖 Live Instant Answers (Wikipedia OpenSearch API): As you type (after a 300ms pause), a background thread queries the Wikipedia REST API and populates up to 3 real, clickable article links inside your sub-list that jump directly to the subject page.

🔍 Standard Google Search Fallback: A pill to open the standard search page if needed.

File Indexer:

The file indexer is a 3-tier bulletproof scanner:

Fast Native Shell find Scan (works across all selected folders on Android 11+ without Scoped Storage blind spots).

Recursive Java File Walker (with individual row try/catch protection so a restricted folder never aborts the transaction).

MediaStore Volume Fallback (reconstructing paths via RELATIVE_PATH + DISPLAY_NAME for modern Android).

You will also see a live 📁 X files indexed counter in the bottom status bar so you know for a fact the database is populated!

Additional Features:

🧮 Live Inline Calculator: If you type a math expression (e.g., 45 * 1.2 or (120 / 4) + 15), an instant Calculator category appears at the very top; tapping it copies the result to your clipboard.

🌐 Direct URL Detector: If you type something resembling a domain (e.g., bbc.co.uk), it offers an immediate Open URL shortcut.

NOTE:

- Tasker must have permission to access files/storage.

- Tasker must have permission to display over other apps.

- Adjust the default apps used when launching actions on your device Default Apps settings.

- Shizuku IS required.

Favorite Actions?

I just noticed this old post about a Favorites mechanism. In it, I see that the dev says he did/would add it to Tasker itself.

It speaks of "long tap +" to trigger. But when I do that at this time, it tries to trigger the AI mechanism.

Does anyone know how/if this sort of thing can be done?

Thanks
