Spoilers Ahead
So after 73 hours and 14 minutes I've finally beating Tales of Rebirth. These are my thoughts. Let's start off the good. Storywise, this is one of the best Tales game in terms of plot and themes. The issue with race was handled really well and didn't paint one side better than the other but showed that both sides were capable of being irrational based on microaggressions from both. I thought that was well done. And I liked how that was weaved naturally into the story.
I also liked this cast of characters a lot. I think the skits were natural and it really showed how closer they got especially Tytree and Veigue as the story progressed. Eugene was a boss throughout. Lol. Loved that guy! But yes the characters were awesome and a mixed bag of different character traits that somehow worked.
I also thought the music was really good and the background art in many parts was awesome and well designed. Now for the not so great parts.
I have two main criticisms of the game. One was the battle system. Now maybe it's just me but the usual artes felt very limited in this iteration. It wasn't bad per se. But it took a while to get used to the force gauge and rush gauge etc. It wasn't overly complicated, but it led to some moments where too much was happening on the screen for you to be focusing on the gauges and it could lead to some problems. I also thought Veigue's force artes in this was not the combo heavy arte I'm used to. Like I said it wasn't bad for me, but it wasn't great.
My second issue is with certain parts of the game dragging somewhat especially around 3/4 into the game. Those who've played know what I'm talking about. But I suppose because the characters were likable it was acceptable somewhat.
Anyway guys, I hope others play this game. If I had to rate it, I would say this was a solid 8/10 for me. What are your thoughts on the game?
