With the ongoing protests and political climate, is France still a safe/smart option for a Bachelor’s, or should I pivot to Germany or Belgium?

Hey everyone,
I’m currently finalizing my plans for an undergraduate degree (aiming for an English-taught Bachelor in Business / Management for the upcoming intake), and France has been my top choice because of its business schools and overall international environment.
However, seeing the frequent news about protests, transport strikes, and political debates lately has made me hesitate about moving to France as an incoming international student.
My main alternative options right now are Germany and Belgium.
For current international students or expats living in France right now:
How much do strikes and protests actually disrupt day-to-day student life, getting to campus, and class schedules?
Is safety an issue for international students during these periods, especially in major cities?
Has the political atmosphere affected the general student experience, student jobs, or internships?
Knowing the ground reality today, would you still pick France, or would you recommend looking at Germany or Belgium instead?
Would appreciate any honest insights from people currently there. Thanks!

Possible exchange in the US - need help picking a college!

Hiii, I am an aussie hopefully looking at doing a semester abroad in the US in the fall and was hoping for some advice on which colleges to apply for as I cannot decide! My top contenders are University of South Carolina, Clemson, University of Mississippi, Umass Amherst and San Diego State University.

I will be studying arts. I’m looking for the authentic college experience but also know that the smaller college towns are quite secluded and I want to see other places in the country. I was wondering realistically how hard it would be to get around if I don’t have a car.

Any advice or insight into the pros/cons, social scene, living on vs off campus, things to do outside of college, safety and anything else about these school would be greatly appreciated! Especially from anyone who has done an exchange or gone to these schools.

My other options (that I have not looked into as much) include: University of Texas at Dallas, San Francisco State University, California State University - Long Beach, Oregon State University, Iowa State University, Kansas State University, University of Oklahoma, University of South Florida, State University New York - Stony Brook, Loyola University, Hunter College NY and Suffolk University.

Thanks guys!!!!!

(also if there are any other subreddits you think i should post this on pls lmk!)

Is applying ed to cornell still worth it?

So I was thinking of applying ed to cornell, but with the recent happenings, as the deadlines are approaching, I just don't feel the same anymore. What should I do? Should I reconsider?

First-gen student from a small town in Germany dreaming of a Master’s abroad. Where do I start?

Hi everyone,

I’m the first person in my family to go to university, and I’ve just started Physics in Germany. My dream is a Master’s abroad, but I don’t have anyone around me who has done this, so I don’t even know what I don’t know.

What would you tell your first-year self about planning, scholarships, networking with professors, language tests, or finding mentors? And what mistakes should I avoid?

Profile evaluation MSC Finance

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply for an MSc Finance for the 2027 intake, primarily targeting Singapore, while also considering universities in the UK. My goal is to get into the best university possible, with a preference for Singapore if my profile is competitive enough.

Here's my profile:

Academic Background

- Class 10: 70%

- Class 12: 83%

- Bachelor's: B.Com (Hons.), CGPA 6.83/10

Work Experience

- Year 1: Worked at Goldman Sachs through a third-party payroll/vendor arrangement, working on-site and gaining experience in the US loan market.

- Year 2: Currently working at a major UK-based bank, gaining experience in the corporate loan/loan syndication space.

My experience is primarily in corporate loans and the secondary syndicated loan market, and I want to build on this background through a master's degree in finance.

My questions:

  1. Is my overall profile decent enough for MSc Finance programmes at reputable universities in Singapore and the UK?

  2. Given my CGPA of 6.83, how much of a disadvantage am I at, particularly for competitive Singaporean universities?

  3. Which exams should I prioritise? Should I focus on the GMAT/GRE, IELTS, or both?

  4. What can I realistically improve over the next 8–10 months to strengthen my applications?

  5. Which universities should I realistically target, considering my academics and relevant work experience?

I'm aiming for the September 2027 intake and am willing to put in the work to improve my profile before applications.

I'd appreciate honest feedback, including realistic university suggestions and whether Singapore is a reasonable target for me or if I should focus more on the UK.

Thanks in advance!

Title: International Gap Year Student from Pakistan | 1420 SAT | 3 A*s A-Levels | EFC $10k–$11k per year— Where should I apply for Early Action (EA) in the US with good aid?

Stats & Background:

Status: International student from Pakistan, currently on a gap year (graduated high school in August 2026).

A-Levels: 3 A*s (Accounting, Economics, Business)

IGCSEs: 6 A*s, 2 As, 1 B

SAT: 1420

Expected Family Contribution (EFC): Around $10,000 to $11,000 per year.

Current Plan: Applying Early Decision (ED) to NYU Shanghai, but looking for non-binding Early Action (EA) options in the US as backup.

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student from Pakistan currently taking a gap year after graduating in August 2026. I am submitting an Early Decision (ED) application to NYU Shanghai, but I also want to apply to US institutions through Early Action (EA) to build out my backup options early.

Given my financial situation, my family can contribute roughly $10k–$11k per year, which means I’ll need significant financial aid or generous scholarships to make studying in the US feasible.

With my academic profile (3 A*s in A-Levels, 1420 SAT), which Early Action (EA) schools in the US should I target? I'm looking for colleges and universities that offer non-binding Early Action and either meet high demonstrated need for international/Pakistani students or offer substantial merit scholarships for an EFC in the $10k–$11k range.

Appreciate any recommendations or advice!

Has anyone ever gotten a study abroad application approved after the deadline?

Hey everyone! I’m in a bit of a dilemma and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.

I’m currently studying abroad for the fall semester, and lately I’ve been thinking that I’d really like to study abroad again next semester, too.

The problem is that my home university’s deadline for approving study abroad applications for the spring semester was October 15, so it’s already passed. On top of that, one of the programs I’m interested in had the same deadline, so I’m not sure if I’ve missed my chance completely.

Thank you :)
