Experience at Sonoma State
Hey everyone! I'm a current high school student who recently applied to Sonoma State for fall 2027, planning to major in Health Sciences. I toured the campus about a month ago and really liked it, so it's definitely a school I'm considering.
I wanted to hear from current students and alumni about their overall experiences at SSU. I've heard mixed things about the recent budget cuts and the social scene, especially with it being somewhat of a commuter school. I'm curious about what campus life is actually like and whether it's easy to meet people and make friends.
Also, do you have any regrets about choosing Sonoma State, or anything you wish you had known before attending?
I know this isn't the Sonoma State subreddit, but I’m hoping some people from the surrounding area may be able to chime in. Thank you!

Pick the healdsburg SMART station
SMART has a new survey asking riders where to put the future Healdsburg Station. There are two options: downtown (one block from the plaza), and the depot (nearly a half mile south from the plaza). The best option for riders is obviously downtown near the shops and restaurants people where people work and visit, and where buses can connect directly (unlike at the depot). Let’s not repeat the mistake of the Larkspur station. Fill out the survey: https://www.sonomamarintrain.org/HealdsburgStationLocation

High paying career options
Is there any possible way to have a high paying career in Sonoma County? When I look at job postings the vast majority are in larger Bay Area cities. I’m interested in the real estate development/investment industry.

Anywhere watch the Valkyries game today?
Curious if anybody knows of a good spot to watch game 1 of the finals, or if all sports bars are just going to be showing college football.

Event Why are Golden State Warrior fans gathering in Walnut Park and why do they hate Sacramento's basketball team so much. Isn't it still baseball season? Or is this because the Dodgers are out, so local sports fans moved to basketball? Someone explain

Santa Rosa, do you hate running? What if we put a DJ on the back of a pedicab and made him follow us around blasting ridiculous music?

Looking for land to rent for my 20 ft camping trailer
I will be starting a new job in Santa Rosa next week and will be commuting over an hour from the east bay. I have a 20 foot camping trailer that I’d like to park in or around Santa Rosa to occasionally spend the night there so that I don’t have to commute quite as much in the evening and morning. The ideal location would also have a yard for my dog during the days she’s with me. Let me know if you or someone you know has a place to rent, thanks!

Where will the apples go, after Manzana leaves?
What are the apple growers planning to do, after the Manzana processing plant shuts down this fall?
Rip out trees? Sell the apples elsewhere? Where?
There are already more U-Pick orchards with on-site sales than the number of customers justifies so that's not an alternative.
Apparently there will be many tons of apples abandoned, left to fall and rot.
What are the present growers going to?

23M- looking for more in-person friends
Hey everybody! As the title suggests I’m trying to broaden my horizons in making new connections around Sonoma County. I’m specifically from Petaluma but anywhere in a close proximity is fine by me!
I’m a snob for nature! I went to the SRJC and got an associates in natural resources and natural sciences. Love taking hikes, camping, gardening, and enjoying the peaceful vibes! I’m currently in the process of being recruited for the conservation corps so that’s pretty cool!
I workout daily, been on the grind for almost a year now 💪🏻, but love all the coffee I can get and everything I bake :). I also love thrifting and some casual gaming.
If anything if this sounds interesting holla at me and we can set up something fun to do!!!

Local news ICE is here for "Operation Safe California". Sonoma County still collaborates with ICE. Your vote this election can change that.
Sheriff Engram is under no legal obligation to cooperate with ICE, yet he invites them here upwards of 65 times a year - Sonoma County is currently an ally to ICE. As the Trump admin launches "Operation Safe California", ICE's presence and aggression will only increase. This election, we have the opportunity to fight back.
Four out of five supervisors are beholden to lobbyist Muelrath, who has deep ties to big business and the Sheriff's department; it's no surprise they refuse to stand up to him. Chris Coursey is the lone progressive on the board who has committed to a Sanctuary Ordinance. In both supervisor elections this year (District 2, District 4) we have the opportunity to elect progressive candidates Joanna Paun and Melanie Bagby who are staunchly committed to ending all collaboration with ICE, meaning if both win we will have a 3/5 progressive majority on the board of supervisors.
We have the opportunity to turn the board progressive for the first time in 50 years. If you live in District 2 or 4 (Petaluma, Cotati, Rohnert Park | Northwestern Santa Rosa and up), please vote for progressives Joanna Paun and Melanie Bagby. I cannot overstate how critical this election is in freeing Sonoma County from its establishment chains and letting it thrive.
We want leaders beholden to the people - the workers of Sonoma County, not the elite. Not the PACs spending billions to prevent rent control, not the PACs lobbying to continue pouring refuse chemicals and fertilizer in our water supply because "handling them appropriately would raise operating expenses". Not PG&E sharing dividends with its shareholders while simultaneously saying "we can't afford to support the burn victims from the fire we caused in Santa Rosa".
Vote grassroots, and let's take back our county from the clutches of big business. It's gonna be close - your vote holds incredible value this election and will make a difference.
District 2: Joanna Paun - Anti-ICE, Anti-Flock, Anti-AI, Grassroots, Union-backed
District 4: Melanie Bagby - Anti-ICE, Anti-Flock, AI-Cautious, Grassroots, Union-backed
Your ballots were sent on October 5th - check your mailbox! We recommend depositing at a local ballot-box or voting in person, as USPS has been sabotaged by the Trump administration.
Not registered? YOU CAN STILL VOTE! Online registration is available until October 19th.
Procrastinated and it's Nov 3rd? YOU CAN STILL VOTE AT YOUR LOCAL POLLING STATION! Head over with any of the following and they'll get you registered and voted:
- Driver’s license
- State identification card
- U.S. passport
- Student identification card
