Silent Hill (1999) I made a new fork of the Silent Hill PC port with new QoL features inspired by the SH2 Remake
Over the past few days, with the help of AI, I've been working on an experiment I call Silent Hill PC Enhanced: an unofficial fork of KushAstronaut's Silent Hill Native PC Port. Its goal is to improve the story mode experience without losing the essence of the original (or at least, I'm trying to). It also includes a small bonus mode created purely for fun and as an experiment.
Everything is optional and can be adjusted through the quick menu, accessed via F10 or the new pause menu. The default settings are tailored for playing with a controller based on my personal testing (I don't play much with a keyboard).
The quality-of-life improvements are mainly inspired by the Silent Hill 2 Remake, making the gameplay much smoother and more fluid.
Immersion
- The weapon hides when not in use and reappears when aiming, shooting, reloading, or when the radio detects danger.
- Harry gasps in fear occasionally while the radio emits static.
- The flashlight flickers near enemies (not fully tested yet).
- Blood splatters appear on walls behind enemies shot by bullets.
Combat Feedback (all features can be toggled on/off, with adjustable intensity)
- Camera shake when taking damage, shooting, and landing hits.
- Hitmarkers and kill flashes, in black-and-white or with a vignette effect.
- Damage, healing, and low-health flashes integrated with CRT and post-processing filters.
- Health HUD (bar or heart rate monitor), ammo counter, and enemy health bars.
Quick Weapons & Healing
- D-pad weapon swapping: each direction maps to a weapon, assignable directly from the inventory or via quick options (F10).
- Improved quick healing: uses the best available healing item with a single button press, featuring a notification, screen flash, and customizable sound.
- Automatic or manual reload, your choice.
Item Notifications Just like in Silent Hill 2 Remake, picking up optional items displays a modern-style quick notification without pausing gameplay. Key story items retain their original pickup screen. In the showcase video, I use sounds from the SH2 Remake, but the port defaults to the original game sounds.
- "Obtained" / "Used" pop-ups when picking up or using ammo and health items, keeping the action going seamlessly.
- Item names display correctly in both English and Spanish. Additionally, accented characters from PAL disc images that previously appeared corrupted are now fixed.
New Pause Menu The original game lacks a proper pause menu—it only displays the text "PAUSE" across the screen. I added a fully navigable menu supporting both controller and keyboard input:
- Resume: returns to the game.
- Load: opens the load screen to select a save file.
- Quick Options: opens the F10 menu to tweak settings on the fly.
- Main Menu: returns to the title screen.
- Quit: exits the game.
Note: Main Menu and Quit do not ask for confirmation, so any unsaved progress will be lost.
Custom Sound Effects I've added launcher options to customize gunshot sounds for the handgun, rifle, and shotgun, as well as item pickup notifications. While I used SH2 Remake sounds in the showcase video, the port uses the original sounds by default.
Horde Mode (Bonus Feature) A wave-based survival mode set in the streets of Silent Hill, inspired by the Mercenaries mode from the Resident Evil series. I personally prefer playing it in third-person over-the-shoulder view. Doors are locked and script events are disabled.
- Waves of Grey Children, Puppet Nurses, Rompers, and Groaners spawning around you.
- Each wave gets progressively tougher.
- Between waves, a roguelike shop allows you to choose 1 of 3 cards (ammo, healing items, new weapons, damage upgrades, or max health boosts).
- Does not affect your story campaign saves: it's a completely separate mode with no saving capability.
How to Try It Installation is identical to the original port; the only differences are the enhancements built into the port itself.
- Download: latest version for 64-bit Windows.
- You will need your own PlayStation disc image of Silent Hill. No game assets are included.
- Full Guide: Spanish · English
- Repository: https://github.com/Matt122Shenk/silent-hill-pc-enhanced
Credits All credit for the base port goes to KushAstronaut and the Silent Hill decompilation community. This is an unofficial fork and is not affiliated with their project. If you encounter any bugs, please report them on this fork's repository, not the original. Like the base port, this was developed with the help of AI.
Any feedback or suggestions are welcome!

Silent Hill 2 (2001) Got Pyramid Head tattoo !
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a bit of my journey with the game. Until recently, I had never played a single Silent Hill game. I knew about the franchise by reputation, of course, but I had never actually sat down to play one. When the Silent Hill 2 Remake dropped, I decided it was finally time to dive in.
Man, I was not prepared.
From the atmosphere to the sound design, the psychological horror just hit me on a whole different level. It’s not just about jump scares; it’s that heavy, suffocating feeling of dread that lingers even after you turn off the console. The way the game explores grief, guilt, and trauma through its world and monsters is absolute storytelling genius. James's story, the symbolism, the eerie silence of the foggy town... it all left a massive impact on me.
It marked me so deeply that I couldn’t just leave it at finishing the game. I needed something permanent to remember this incredible experience, so I decided to get a Pyramid Head tattoo!
To all the long-time fans who have loved this game for years: I totally get it now. What an absolute masterpiece.

Speculation Detective work on the potential Silent Hill 1 remake cast
A year ago, I made a thread on here about my findings on what could be two actors that would appear in the SH1 Remake : https://www.reddit.com/r/silenthill/comments/1p7s2is/i_mightve_found_two_of_the_actors_working_on_the/
Back then, I believed that Anthony Ingruber and Tricia Helfer could be part of SH1. However, I'm here to report that this 99% won't be the case, as the games they ended up being was something else entirely.
Ingruber's being a smaller, 2D game by Bloober called "I Hate This Place", while Helfer's isn't even tied to Bloober (which makes sense because her involvement was more of a guess.)
HOWEVER, I've made new foundings.
The first one is this UK-based American/French actor, Zachary Fall.

And the second one is Jade Matthews, another UK-based actress.

Both of them are following and being followed by Mateuz Lenart, the director of Silent Hill 2 Remake who is now working on Silent Hill 1 Remake, and Maciej Głomb, the producer of both of these games. They are also following each other.

Silent Hill 4 (2004) Silent hill 4??
I have been begging them to remake Hill 4 for 10 years now, if not more. Hot take but I’ve always considered SH4 to be the best one out there, yes, better than SH2. The plot was THICK. The locked door, the peephole, the ghosts haunting the walls, Sullivan.. the orphanage.. Room of Angels… the twin monster, Cynthia!! chef’s kiss true psychological horror
I just need to know WHEN this remake is finally coming to life because I need it desperately.

Silent Hill 4 (2004) Long time no see, 10.2 star on Silent Hill 4 with a morbid ending
Pretty simple run though can vary at times, I unfortunately tried my best to collect holy candles and save Eileen. I guess I’m not the escort type. Lol I admit this was still intense though with no saves and almost low Health and few items left. Still I am sad the journey ends here. I enjoyed the series. I am glad I got to play all games. I would put tips but I feel I can say practice and pretty much fight small creatures. NO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE CHARGE ATTACKS. Use it on the Sniffers. I hate the sniffers and try to run through the Hummers and pretty much any enemy. Toadstools pretty much will be your main kill. Use the axe as soon ans you can and the medallions. They can save you in some spots. I recommend knowing the location of items and saving as much health items as you can especially when you get to building world revisit. I actually got a ton of drinks by forest world revisit so try to store them. But Walter Wins!!! He is an awesome villain So I ain’t upset.

General Discussion Favorite story?
I've seen a ton of opinions about the gameplay of the games, but hardly anything about the story. I feel like it's a given that everyone here at least somewhat likes the games for their story, but which ones are your guys' favorites? Which one is the worst (Don't say Return to Silent Hill we all know that movie sucks)

00:32:43 | "The Darkness That Lurks in Our Mind" (SH2) – The exact scene from your television image. Accents the psychological tension as Rose and Cybil slowly path through the gray fog right before the Armless Man spits acid.
00:34:40 | "Ashes and Ghost" (SH2) – Tracks the high-energy escape sequence where Rose slips past Cybil's cuffs to pursue Sharon.
00:35:05 | "Wounded Warsong" (SH4) – Drives the pace with rhythmic, mechanical beats while Rose sprints past old school bus signs tracking the route.

01:03:00 | "Prayer" (SH3) – Heavy, cultish industrial chanting that kicks in right as darkness drops over the church steps.
01:05:40 | "Clockwork Little Happiness" (SH3) – Layers a custom church organ sound over Christabella's direct fanatical speech to the brethren congregation.
01:10:15 | "Dance With Night Wind" (SH3) – Accompanies the characters as they plot their risky descent lower into Brookhaven Hospital.
01:14:00 | "Fermata in Mistic Air" (SH2) – Provides a cold background ambiance over the sterile hospital flashbacks as Dark Alessa uncovers the truth.
01:23:45 | "Until The Stars Go Out" (SH4) – Bridges the gap when the two halves of Alessa combine, fading the screen back to current day.

01:38:20 | "Far" (SH1) – Plays at high volume right as Christabella strikes Rose down with a knife for blasphemy.
01:40:10 | "Uneternal Sleep" (SH3) – Dictates the soundscape as Rose's blood wound supernaturally heals right before Alessa's ultimate revenge room drop.
01:41:40 | "Last Boss Remix" (SH3) – A frantic, mechanical organ remix driving the final razor-wire execution bloodbath across the church sanctuary.
01:46:15 | "Magdalene" (SH2) – A quiet, mournful piece playing as Rose and Sharon/Alessa step out of the car and walk inside their empty house layout.
01:48:30 | "Lost Carol" (SH3) – A brief, isolated vocal sequence that rings out right when Christopher opens the front door to look at the rain.
01:49:15 | "You're Not Here" (SH3) – Mary Elizabeth McGlynn’s alternative rock anthem that crashes in for the stylized, animated credit frames.
01:54:10 | "Tears Of..." (SH1) – Plays instantly over the second half of the main scrolling text credit roll.
01:56:00 | "Theme of Laura" (SH2) – The electric guitar track that carries the film all the way down to its final black frame finish. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
(Note: Johnny Cash’s "Ring of Fire" plays completely independent of the game files from a diner jukebox at the 00:25:35 mark)

Silent Hill: Townfall (2026) is there a reason for the the Townfall Ending's constraints? Spoiler
For the Justice ending you can only kill 40(i think?) monsters until you're locked into abandoned. Is there a story purpose for this or a "you can't because you can't" thing?
In my mind it represents not supressing the past and the people who simon hurt in order to GET THEM that justice. And to show that a killing spree would be just as bad as killing the town, because those monsters represent the townspeople. But that's just how I see it. Does anyone have a different interpretation? Or did i miss something in game?
